Electromagnetic Modeling of Packaging Layout in Power Electronic ModulesSiddabattula, Kalyan C. 06 January 2000 (has links)
This thesis presents the modeling approaches and the challenges involved in electromagnetic modeling of packaging layout. It discusses the methodologies that are being used today. It then applies these methodologies to analyze, model and characterize three packaging technologies: (i) the wirebond technology, (ii) The Metal Post Interconnected Parallel Plate Structure, and the (iii) Multi Layer Structure. The model developed is validated through experimentation. These models are then used in simulation in order to compare the electrical performance of the packaging technologies.
Finally some problems with the existing designs are pointed out, and suggestions (both local and generic) are given to improve the layout design. / Master of Science

Model extraction of a paddle in plastic surface-mount RF-IC packagesSundberg, Garth 17 February 2000 (has links)
Plastic packaging is a cost-effective solution for housing RF and microwave integrated circuits in low cost communication devices. While enabling low cost packaging of integrated circuits, plastic packages including the circuit ground patch (paddle) inside the package can have a significant parasitic effect on circuit performance. The purpose of this thesis is to develop accurate broadband models and associated extraction procedures for the paddle in plastic surface-mount RF-IC packages. Availability of package models will help the RF design engineer to include the packaging effects directly during the circuit design phase.
In this thesis a new lumped element equivalent circuit model for the ground paddle inside a plastic package is presented. The ground paddle is characterized by planar full-wave electromagnetic simulation as well as by measurement of an equivalent paddle test structure. To de-embed the effects of the measurement probes, several test structures are designed. The equivalent circuit parameters for the paddle in a general symmetric 2n-pin plastic package are extracted from a set of measured or simulated two-port scattering parameters. To illustrate the modeling approach, the response of the paddle model for a four-pin and eight-pin plastic package is shown and found to be in good agreement with the measured and
simulated data over a broad frequency range extending beyond 5 GHz. Finally, the extraction of the equivalent circuit model of the paddle through the package lead-frame is demonstrated. / Graduation date: 2000

The present research is based on the hypothesis that the language use, considered to be as a social power and a tool to achieve pragmatic goals of the communication, requires the involvement of ethics aimed at regulating social interactions. This hypothesis predetermines the main research aim that consists of ethics analysis on a corpus of food packaging discourse. The question of social regulation is accomplished through the concept of value, central one in the problematics of ethics as the value is a spinning plate between meaning and action that guides human behavior and influences decision making. In summary, this work is dedicated to the study of values in all its aspects: i. value as a semantic component which impersonates the idea of the Good, ii . the manifestation of values in the speech which reflect social personal styles as world models at a cultural level, iii. values and their re-organization in the communication process with other people, iv. value as an action force and its conscious use by a discourse subject to express implication and perception of the obligations which form the basis of responsibility. The work studies the role of passions and emotions in the course of the act that weaken or strengthen the action force as well. This research also investigates the value in practical interactions; the value force is manifested in the interaction process between a set of practical situations; the interaction nature influences stability and equilibrium of situations thanks to providing the stability of links between participants of different practices.

HOW PACKAGE RIGIDITY AND POLITICAL IDENTITY INFLUENCE PURCHASE INTENTIONCiavarello, Patricia January 2021 (has links)
This research intends to discover the effects of packaging rigidity and political identity on consumer behavior. Four experiments are conducted and reported. The results show that although products in more flexible packages may be perceived as more innovative and environmentally friendly, they may nevertheless be less preferred because of reduced ease of handling. Moreover, I show that political identity moderates these results, such that politically liberal, more so than politically conservative, consumers are those who respond more negatively to flexible packaging. I investigate whether specific individual traits, openness to experience (one of the big five personality traits) and/or sensory sensitivity, help to explain the political identity moderator. Finally, I test whether the findings can be applied via marketplace targeting on the basis of political affiliation using voting data as a geographic proxy measure. / Business Administration/Marketing
