Avaliação da acessibilidade no ensino superior : UTFPR - Câmpus Medianeira /

Baú, Marlene Alamini. January 2015 (has links)
Abstract: Due to the increased number of disabled students in higher education, as well as the concern to ensure your rights, we need to know how institutions are organizing to respond to the needs of these students. Thus, this study aimed, by means of two studies, analyze the accessibilities conditions and the satisfaction level of the disabled students. The first study aimed to identify and evaluate the accessibility conditions in the UTFPR campus Medianeira. This step was performed using for the research, the Instrument for Assessment of Accessibility Conditions in Higher Education Institutions, composed of nine items representing 11 pre-defined routes. The application of the protocol, identified the missing items and the elements that could difficult the displacement of disabled students on each route assessed. The results showed that the architectural structure of the university, although the absence of some elements, was sufficient to ensure the accessibility of disabled students or reduced mobility, in their dependencies. The second study aimed to evaluate the satisfaction and dissatisfaction of four disabled students enrolled in the institution. To collect the data was applied to A and C part of the Satisfaction Scale and Attitudes of Disabled People - ESA. The data allowed to measure and get the opinion of the students about the operational, psychoaffective and structural satisfaction, and their attitudes face of the obstacles. The final result showed that although two items relating to physical structure does not fully meet current regulations, in the general context, the disabled students had full satisfaction about the accessibility at the university. / Mestre

Group treatment for male sex offenders with an intellectual disability

Osiadacz, Nikkita January 2016 (has links)
Preliminary results from research show some promising results for the Sex Offender Treatment Services Collaborative – Intellectual Disability (SOTSEC-ID) treatment on offence recidivism. However, further research that explores the processes of behaviour change is required. This study answered the research question: What are the key mechanisms to therapeutic change in individuals with ID who have completed a sex offender treatment programme (SOTP)? A qualitative grounded theory methodology was used to understand the processes of change. A semi-structured interview was used with 12 participants. The results showed that relationship experience, acceptance of responsibility, being able to remember the details of the group, group processes, understanding their own risk and practical strategies were the key areas that are influential in the change process. Barriers to change were also highlighted. The study concluded that there are other factors such as group processes important in the process of change that influence behaviour change, other than the content of the treatment. Group treatment is supported for this population.

Disability Attitudes and Video Gaming Tendencies of NCAA Division I Athletes

Morgan, Alexandra Nichole 01 December 2017 (has links)
An estimated 48.9 million Americans have a disability (Bernstein, 2012). Of those 48.9 million people, 24.1 million Americans have a severe disability and 34.2 million have a functional limitation (Bernstein, 2012). The U.S. Government Accountability Office reports an increase in students with disabilities in the post-secondary population (Ridpath, n.d.). Approximately 11% of post-secondary students’ report having a disability (Ridpath, n.d.). This trend has also been reflected within the athletic population at the NCAA Division I, II, and III level (Ridpath, n.d.). This study examined the average disability attitude of NCAA Division I athletes. The average disability attitude among NCAA Division I athletes was 73.99 out of 144. Recently, the physical and mental impact that video games have on video game players has been greatly researched (Oggins, & Sammis, 2012). It has been reported that 8% of U.S. adolescents and young adults are pathological gamers (Gentile, 2009). Additionally, it has been stated that video game play of over 20 hours per week is common, and that it is not unusual for males to engage in video games for over 40 hours per week (Bailey et al., 2010). This study examined the average video gaming tendencies of NCAA Division I athletes. The data collected reports the average video gaming tendencies of athletes based on behavioral functions (attention, escape, tangible, and sensory) to be: Attention = 12.71, Escape 4.64, Tangible = 11.01, and Sensory 7.46.

Black community attitudes towards the disabled-educational implications

Baloyi, Busisiwe Helen 01 1900 (has links)
This study, BLACK COMMUNITY ATTITUDES TOWARDS THE DISABLED - EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS, set out to investigate the attitude of the black community towards the disabled. Literature was consulted to provide a backdrop against which the empirical surveys could be measured. The study used systematic observation interviews for data collection. Appointments were made to conduct the interviews. The study obtained responses from 70 interviewees from four African cultures namely the Vend~ Pedi, Tsonga and Ndebele, who were divided into seven groups, ten per group, i.e. parents of the disabled, the disabled themselves, siblings of the disabled, parents of non-disabled, youth, old people and professional workers. Findings indicated that disabilities such as cerebral palsy, orthopaedic disabilities, blindness and deafness are undesirable and constitute problems in the life of a disabled, their families in general perspective and the community at large. Disabilities constituted different attitudes and were identified as varying from total rejection to acceptance which are brought about by the components of the TRIPARTITE MODEL I A B C MODEL being cognitive, affective and behavioural. Education of the whole black community concerning the issue of disabled people seems to be the only answer to bring about a change of attitude towards the disabled. Therefore a number of recommendations were included to serve as guidance and counselling so that myth and witchcraft ideologies and negative attitudes can be uprooted. The researcher hopes that the effort that went into this· study will be beneficial in the process of educating the black community about the disabled with the ultimate goal of changing existing negative attitudes towards the disabled into positive attitudes of acceptance and support. / Psychology of Education / D Ed. Through literary research it became clear that our legislation demonstrates quite clearly that the legislature intended to ensure PPDs, the minimum participation influential in the active life of Brazilian society and an unprecedented advance, they have created the basic lines of the integration process poor society and market national production. It was also that companies are seeking professionals from among the universe of PPDs, already qualified, which usually are not. Private Organizations has also developed some projects for the qualification of PPDs. The Law 6297/75 that guarantee companies the discount on the IR double spending on training, was abolished on 12 December 1990. Companies need a financial incentive for them to deal with the qualification of these professionals, not as a burden but as a social project. If companies were benefiting from tax incentives, as they were in the presence of this law, companies would have a different view at the hiring of PPD? The research methodology includes a literature survey and an exploratory survey to be made in private companies, institutions that aim to help insert the PPDs and Private organizations. It has been found through research that there is concern by all those involved in finding effective means to ensure the inclusion of PPD in the labor market, although the lack of qualification is still a major problem.

Dusik, Cláudio Luciano January 2013 (has links)
It is noticed that the technological quest to make life easier and promote functional abilities of people with disabilities. Given this model and an inclusive society, with a commitment to ensure that these people are not excluded from common activities, this research presents the conception and the development of a virtual keyboard interface nominated Mousekey, and discusses how this assistive technology can promote written for people with mobility disabilities. To understand the proposed objectives of this study, it chose a qualitative research, case study. Survey participants were five people literate, but with motor disabilities to write, that "can not in any way" or has "great difficulty". For data collection, held two meetings with these fellows, who used the technology designed, two of them with Spinal Muscular amyotrophy, two with Muscular Dystrophy, and one with Dystonia Movement. Through ergonomics verification protocol, analysis of interviews and direct observation, verified the appropriateness of the use of this tool in the process of writing, communication and interaction, using this virtual keyboard. For three research subjects, the Mousekey made writing easier, reducing the time and muscle fatigue, while for the other two subjects Mousekey writing became possible because they have not adapted to other technologies that favored. The potential of technological development for use of the most several human potentials was observed in this validation. The textual production showed that the syllables in Mousekey take the subject to rethink your learning and writing process to reduce your time and effortless. The typing manners made possible the adaptation of the application to the users' different needs. In a general way, the data show that Mousekey-UFRGS can assist the need of the participants' writing in their expectations, being Functional, Wearable and Accessible. The considerations invite to the reflection of the human potential, of the force of the life in their longings and aspirations, and of the how temporary and unexpected it can be the impossible term.

Protokol sexuality ve vybraných zařízeních sociálních služeb v Jihočeském kraji. / The protocol of sexuality in chosen organizations of social services in Southern region.

TALICH, Jan January 2012 (has links)
Sexuality protocol regulates rights and obligations of social services providers, their employees and users. The aim of the diploma thesis was to confirm or disprove an existence of sexuality protocols or documents with an identical meaning in chosen social service facilities in the South Bohemian Region, to analyze found documents and to realize interviews with selected social workers. The diploma thesis contains a theoretical and research parts. In the theoretical part the author deals with a definition of a human sexuality, sexual norms and functions, as well as a person with a disability in terms of his rights for the sexuality, characteristics of their development and ultimately social services in the context of a fulfilment of human rights of the person with a disability to experience his sexuality. The research of the diploma thesis consisted of a preliminary research and the research itself. The preliminary research was realized as a public inquiry investigation. The researched was designed with a regard to the infrequent and unexplored topic, a qualitative form with an application of methods of content analysis of documents and interviews, more precisely using a technique of depth semi-structured interviews. Based on the performed research 4 sexuality protocols or documents of the identical meaning were analyzed in the target group of the social services providers. The analysis showed a diverse representation of coherent themes in the found protocols in comparison with a model sexuality protocol, which has been described in the professional literature. Further the author shows considerable differences in an internal structure of the coherent themes in the documents themselves which leads to a distorted reporting, particularly in a field of the parenthood for people with mental and multiple disabilities. Based on the analysis of the model document, the author proposes a fixed structure of the various protocol topics for an objective and balanced form of the protocols. The experience of the social workers with the sexuality protocol can be summarized in three basic lines: an indispensable cooperation of the management and direct care workers in developing the sexuality protocol, a sense of the securing in the work with a sexuality of the users as a benefit of the protocol for the employees and a change of an approach to the users in terms the organization and employees.

Perceptions and expectations of patients regarding a new rehabilitation model to encompass the vision of the new health plan 2030

Petersen, Rochelle Louisa January 2017 (has links)
Masters of Science - Msc (Physiotherapy) / People with disabilities face many challenges. Some are made to feel inferior by others because of their physical or mental disabilities. Primary healthcare described by the Alma Ata Declaration as "health for all", is a process of care which encompasses a comprehensive approach to meet the basic healthcare needs of all, including people with disabilities. The main focus of the primary healthcare approach is to put people at the centre of healthcare. Primary healthcare utilises rehabilitation as a service. Rehabilitation services worldwide are set to improve the standard that the United Nations Convention of the Rights of People with Disabilities and National Committee of Rights People with Disabilities aims to achieve. There are however, gaps in the delivery of healthcare services at a primary level, as identified by the Western Cape Department of Health in South Africa. The 2030 healthcare plan was developed to fill the gaps at this level of service. The plan builds on the comprehensive service plan of healthcare 2010 which aimed to strengthen community-based services, primary healthcare and district hospitals. The plan also looks at how the Department of Health will operate using this platform. The framework was established to focus on changes inclusive of threats in the environment such as technological advances and the availability of resources, building on lessons learned in the Comprehensive Service Plan 2010 as well as a reimagined future to improve healthcare services for all. Key stakeholders in the Western Cape aim to improve these health services by providing patientcentred care, moving towards a goal orientated outcome, improving services at a district health level, improvement of equity, affordable health services and establishing premeditated partnerships.
