The Efffects of Workplace Financial Education on Personal Finances and Work OutcomesKim, Jinhee 25 April 2000 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of workplace financial education on workers' personal finances and work outcomes and determine relationships among financial management (attitudes, knowledge and behaviors), financial well-being, personal finance-work conflict, and work outcomes with data of white-collar workers in an insurance company in mid-western states.
Research questions were (1) What are the profiles of financial attitudes, financial knowledge, financial behaviors, financial well-being, personal finance-work conflict, productivity, absenteeism, work time use, organizational commitment, pay satisfaction, loyalty, and intention to leave?, (2) Do the profiles of financial attitudes, financial knowledge, financial behaviors, and financial well-being differ by the individual characteristics?, (3) Do the profiles of personal finance-work conflict, productivity, absenteeism, work time use, organizational commitment, and pay satisfaction differ by the individual characteristics?, (4) What are the relationships among financial attitudes, financial knowledge, financial behaviors, financial well-being, and work outcomes (productivity, absenteeism, organizational commitment, and pay satisfaction)?, (5) What are the effects of workplace financial education on financial attitudes, financial knowledge, financial behaviors, financial well-being, and work outcomes?, and (6) What are the individual profiles of workplace financial education including participation, value of workplace financial education, reasons for participation and non-participation, desire for financial check-up, and desired topics of workplace financial education?
The research design was a pre- and post-assessment survey. A pre-assessment survey was conducted in February and March 1999 before workplace financial education was provided during March 1999. One-and one-half hour workplace financial education workshops were provided at no cost to employer or employees in March 1999. Three months after the workplace financial education was provided, a post-assessment survey was conducted from June through August 1999. A pre-assessment questionnaire was mailed to all 476 workers (five were undeliverable) and 262 responses were utilized for data analysis. In the post-assessment, 482 questionnaires were mailed to workers and five were undeliverable. Usable return rates for the data analysis were 56.0% in the pre-assessment (262/471) and 40.0% in the post-assessment (189/477).
Overall, the respondents in this study were somewhat positive toward financial management, were not knowledgeable on financial matters, and were practicing their financial behaviors fairly well. Objective financial well-being measures showed that workers were in fairly good financial condition but the levels of subjective financial well-being were about the mid-point on a scale, when each score was converted into a percentage. The workers reported that they were very productive, did not miss work days frequently, were highly committed to their organization, and they showed fairly high levels of pay satisfaction. Workers were very hesitant to admit to direct questions asking about whether or not their financial concerns interfered with their responsibilities at the workplace while they were not always able to do normal work even though they were present in the office and spent some work time handling financial matters. Some of individual characteristics influenced financial attitude, financial knowledge, financial behavior, financial well-being, personal finance-work outcomes, and work outcomes.
The tests of the structural equation model showed that worker's personal finances had direct and indirect effects on work outcomes. The financial well-being had a negative effect on personal finance-work conflict. The financial well-being had direct effects on negative work time use and pay satisfaction. The financial well-being had indirect effects through personal finance-work conflict on absenteeism, negative work time use, and organizational commitment. The t-test results did not show the significant effects of workplace financial education on personal finances and work outcomes between the pre- and the post-assessment. / Ph. D.

Digitala kvitton och dess framtida tillämpningar / Digital receipts and their future applicationsKaunissaar, Christian, Selmersson, Fredrik, Holmberg, Peter January 2010 (has links)

Consumers today leave a fragment of information when they pay with their debit and credit cards. The aim of our work is to investigate ways to design a concept of a system in which digitally stored information that today is fragmented among several different holders, can be assembled into a system and made available to consumers. In our study of how a system for financial flow of information should be designed, we intend to study the present situation and the attempts made to alter it into a more informative reality. We intend to investigate the flow of information when a consumer pays by card, and the possible solutions regarding the design and transportation of digital receipts. A majority of the information of our digital consumption is today handled digitally. We pay bills and make purchases online with debit- and credit cards. Some of this information is available digitally for the parties involved. However, there is an essential element of information that is not being made available digitally to consumers. The digital receipt is a natural part of the whole that is our idea. The digital nature of the information creates opportunities for new services and markets, but the digital receipt also replaces the unwanted physical receipt. We found that there is an interest among consumers for the introduction of the digital receipt and the information that it enables. We have for this purpose created a conceptual design, and initiated a discussion on the future systems of private financial information.
/
Consumers today leave a fragment of information when they pay with their debit and credit cards. Previous issue date: 2016-08-16 / Balance expenses of families, governments and companies can bring sustainability on medium and long term for Brazil. Therefore, comprehending what could bring it to a balance, analyzed by the household savings, could be the base to form public policies strategies. In the light of this work, a sample of actual financial movement of users of the financial control application Minhas Economias was analyzed, for appointing which characteristics and behaviors of a individual could impact its savings rate, considering the hypothesis that planning and habituality could imply higher savings rates. Some of the results are in line with the theories of Dholakia et al. (2016) and Shefrin & Thaler (1988), attesting that habituality and planning could impact the families savings rate. Furthermore, it was possible to conclude that income and expenses, as well as its standard deviations, also generate, in level, significant statical impact over the savings rate. Furthermore, it was possible to conclude that income and expenses, as well as its standard deviations, also generate, in level, significant statical impact over the savings rate. However, longitudinal analysis showed that planning, measured by the dummy variable budget, loses significance. That fact can be explained due to the non-observable effects (fixed characteristics of each individual), and as it is controlled, the dummy has no longer an effect. Therefore, the budget can reveal something peculiar in the individual and that, certain way, is controlled in the panel.

Previous issue date: 2012-07-03 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The classical economic theory assumes that people make decisions through rational processes, particularly in the sense that they are coherent and consistent. However, many experimental studies indicate violations of this assumption. Two factors that lead to these violations are Overconfidence and Aversion to extremes, this is the preference of intermediate choices, avoiding extreme options. These factors commonly induce investors to make decisions that generate further frustration. The financial crisis of 2008, where there was a large depreciation of various assets, also showed that many people chose not coherent with their investment profile. So in 2010, the Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Markets (ANBIMA) determined that the institutions that sell mutual funds must make an evaluation Investor Profile (API) so that investors are advised to make investments consistent with your profile. This study aimed to verify the score resulting from the API and the Degree of Confidence in investment decisions make people more susceptible to the effect Aversion Extremes. To fulfill this objective, a questionnaire was administered to 112 undergraduates courses in Administration, Accounting and Economics from the Federal University of Espírito Santo. Based on the theoretical framework were outlined eight chances. The first hypothesis aims to Analysis of Investor Profile and Degree of Confidence in investment decisions make people more susceptible to the effect Aversion Extremes. The other hypotheses identify the relationships between gender, degree of confidence, the API and Investment Decisions. Additionally, characteristics of which were verified Investor Profile make individuals more likely to effect Aversion Extremes. The main conclusion of this study is the first hypothesis, whose tests reveal that the higher the API more likely occur in the end, while the Degree of Confidence in Investment Decisions not increase susceptibility to extreme aversion / A teoria econômica clássica assume que as pessoas tomam decisões por meio de processos racionais, particularmente no sentido de que são coerentes e consistentes. Contudo, muitos estudos experimentais apontam violações dessa premissa.
