Design and Modeling of Power Factor Correction Circuits

This thesis aims to investigate an active power factor correction (PFC) circuit and its mathematical model, in order to develop a reliable and efficient simulation platform. By using the PI controller, we can control the inductor current and the output voltage of the boost converter. Finally, we constructed the circuit and analyzed the results to verify that our mathematical model is valid.

The thesis aims at investigating an active power factor correction circuit. In boost power converter, we ser up average large signal model with Matlab and derive control¡Voutput function for pole assignment of control loop with ac small signal model. In controller, control circuit of conventional active power factor correction and modified PI control circuit are adopted, separately. Through simulation results and experimental responses of hardware circuit show that under variation of load or alternating input voltage, modified PI control circuit has better regulating capacity than that of conventional control circuit .

[pi]-metal complexes of i-propyldinaphthoporphycene

Porphycenes have attracted attention for their ability to stabilize complexes with a wide range of metal cations. Coordination compounds of these macrocycles are endowed with of specific chemical, optical, electronic, spectroscopic and photochemical properties,1-8 such as, strong absoptions in the red region of the UV-vis spectrum. These characteristics have been used in the study of protein mimicry,9, 10 photodynamic therapy (PDT)11-16 and materials chemistry17, 18 The fusion of bipyrrolic entities with aromatic rings could led to a change in the photophysical properties of porphycenes, and could give rise to nonlinear optical (NLO) behavior.19 Taken in concert, these possibilities provides an incentive to study metal complexes of new porphycenes. With that goal in mind, presented here is the synthesis and the spectroscopic and voltamperometric analyses of four metollocene complexes of a relatively new annulated porphycenes, namely i-propyldinaphthoporphycene. Chapter 1 of this thesis provides a brief introduction into porphycenes and porphyrins as well as complexes prepared from these macrocycles. Because it relates more closely to the research described in this thesis, the emphasis will be on peripherally substituted and directly π-metallated porphyrin-like macrocycles. Annulated porphycenes and their metal complexes display geometric and optical features that differ from those of normal porphycenes. Chapter 2 details the coordination compounds of annulated porphycenes, as well as some of their optical and redox features. This chapter also summarizes the current synthesis of dinaphthoporphycenes, while detailing efforts by other authors to coordinate transition metals to dinaphthoporphycenes, which culminated in the preparation of the first nickel(II) complex known so far with this ligand. It was recently found that the electronic properties of porphycenes change from those of an electron donor to those of an electron acceptor when the RuCp* (Cp*: pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) fragment is coordinated to the “π-face” of the macrocycle. This finding, discovered using so-called etioporphycenes, motivated the author to explore the metal complexation chemistry of i-porpyldinaphthoporphycene. This led to the synthesis of four metalloporphycenes are described in Chapter 3. Here, the coordination of the [M(Cp*)]n+ (M = Ru, Ir and Rh) fragments to the π-electron framework was established by analytical, and structural means. Thus, this chapter provides of a description of the spectroscopic, structural and voltamperometric features of these complexes. / text

This thesis consists of a critical edition of Tuhfat dhawi al-irab fi mushkil al-asma' wa al-nisab by Abu al-Thana' Nur al-Din Mahm-ud b. Ahmad b. Muhammad known as Ibn Khatib al-Dahshah: an alphabetical dictionary which deals with the vocalization of the names and nisbas which occur in the three canonical hadith collections, namely the Sahihayn and the Muwatta' regardless of whether these names occur in the isnads or in the matn of these books. This work is divided into two parts, an introduction and the edition of the text. The first part consists of a biographical account of the author, his works and a review of the previously published edition of the Tuhfah. A study of the work comprising the author's sources, a discussion of his alleged carelessness in copying, his arrangement, the subject and the title of the work is undertaken. A description of the MSS and an account of the method of edition adopted is also given. The second part comprises a critical edition of the Tuhfah, depending on five MSS, with the necessary explanatory notes, indices and bibliography.

A critical study of the reception and translation of the poetry of Wang Wei in English

This thesis explores how Wang Wei 王維(701-761), a Chinese Tang-dynasty poet, was received and represented through the twentieth century in the Anglophone world and what images of him different translators have created at different times for different readers in the receiving context. Wang Wei, like some of his contemporaries, notably Li Bo 李白(701-762) and Du Fu 杜甫 (712-770), is one of the most translated Chinese poets. The translation and reception of Wang Wei’s poetry have been dominated by emphasis on imagery, landscape, and Zen over the past one hundred years although his poetry also includes other themes. The hypothesis is that Wang Wei was more discussed for his contribution to Chinese landscape art at the beginning of the twentieth century, then began to be connected with Zen Buddhism around the mid-century. In the post-war period and beyond, his nature poetry associated with eco-spirituality has been widely explored. Starting with an introductory chapter, which explores critical debates about Wang Wei’s life and establishes a theoretical framework based on systemic approaches, this thesis will discuss the following elements chapter by chapter: classical Chinese poetry in English translation, Chinese imagery traditions and the development of Imagism, Wang Wei’s poetry about landscape and Zen, and difficulties of and patterns in translating Wang Wei. The concluding chapter will stress that the sustainability of Wang Wei’s poetry in English lies in its constant interactions with various literary, political, and social factors in the polysystem of the target culture. Thus, the translation of a foreign literary figure, like Wang Wei, goes beyond the linguistic and takes into account contextual relationships.

The study, in the form research-intervention, involved 71 students from 6th to 9th of elementary school, the management team, staff and teachers. In accord to this type of research, was built the field of analysis, formed by all the theoretical contributions that deal with: the process of institutionalization, research-intervention, youth and Culture of Peace. As a field of intervention, chose a public school, where there was the demand and voluntary compliance of the community school. The devices of analysis or action strategies were varied: focus groups, meetings, thematic workshops and questionnaires. The results show that young people are seen by most teachers as being uninterested in studies, undisciplined, and in some cases violent. The blame for the existence of these problems is attributed to the family, they say, does not educate or impose limits. In contrast, young people are perceived positively, recognize the difficulties and obstacles they face in everyday life, show value for studies and see themselves as people who can contribute to improving the environment where they live. While living the ambiguity and vagueness in relation to what they are, considered youth a moment "wonderful", "passenger" where the errors are "allowed". Relative to peace, I realized, by part of members of the school community, the predominance of negative conception, in which peace is associated with tranquility and harmony, the absence of conflicts and as individual attribute. As a result, it is difficult to think of peace as intersubjective reality and as a process that takes place collectively. I checked also the pedagogical School proposes and could note its focus is on the transmission of content, with no time and space for approach of essential and constitute aspects of human life. From this we can infer that the understanding of peace, violence, youth, school and culture of peace, explained by the research shows that these institutions have typifications of actions with a controller character of behaviors, attitudes and discourse, which may explain the resistance of some members of the school community to change their daily practices, even after a process of reflection. Importantly, however, that the research-intervention represented a breakthrough in this direction, particularly as regards the revision of the concept of peace, that after the debates and concerns, was closest to the positive sense, which can signal the first step in building a Culture of Peace in this school. / A presente investigação foi realizada de junho de 2010 a junho de 2011, na Escola Maria Melo em Teresina-Piauí, com o objetivo de contribuir na construção de uma Cultura de Paz neste ambiente escolar. O estudo, na modalidade pesquisa-intervenção, envolveu 71 alunos de 6º ao 9º do ensino fundamental, a equipe gestora, funcionários e professores. Em conformidade com este tipo de pesquisa, construí o campo de análise, formado pelo conjunto dos aportes teóricos que tratam sobre: processo de institucionalização; pesquisa-intervenção; juventude e Cultura de Paz. Como campo de intervenção, escolhi uma escola pública, onde houvesse demanda e a adesão voluntária da comunidade escolar. Os dispositivos de análise ou estratégias de ação foram variados: grupos focais, encontros, oficinas temáticas e questionários. Os resultados mostram que os jovens são vistos pela maioria dos professores como desinteressados pelos estudos, indisciplinados e em algumas situações violentos. A culpa pela existência desses problemas é atribuída à família que, segundo eles, não educa nem impõe limites. Em contraste, os jovens se percebem positivamente, reconhecem as dificuldades e os obstáculos que enfrentam no dia a dia, demonstram valorizar os estudos e se vêem como pessoas capazes de contribuir para melhorar o contexto onde vivem. Ao mesmo tempo em que vivem a ambiguidade e a imprecisão em relação ao que são, consideram a juventude um momento “maravilhoso”, “passageiro”, onde os erros são “permitidos”. Quanto à paz, percebi, por parte dos membros da comunidade escolar, a predominância da concepção negativa, na qual a paz é associada à quietude e harmonia, a não existência de conflitos e como atributo individual. Em decorrência disso, há uma dificuldade para pensar a paz como realidade intersubjetiva e como processo que se realiza coletivamente. Verifiquei, também, que a proposta pedagógica da Escola tem como foco a transmissão dos conteúdos, não havendo tempo e espaço para a abordagem de aspectos essenciais e constitutivos da vida humana. A partir disso, é possível inferir que a compreensão de paz, violência, juventude, escola e cultura de paz, explicitada pelos participantes da pesquisa, mostra que estas instituições apresentam tipificações de ações com caráter controlador de condutas, atitudes e discursos, fato que pode explicar a resistência apresentada por alguns membros da comunidade escolar para mudar suas práticas cotidianas, mesmo após um processo de reflexão. É importante ressaltar, porém, que a realização da pesquisa-intervenção representou um avanço nesse sentido, particularmente no que se refere à revisão da noção de paz, que após os debates e problematizações, mostrou-se mais próxima da acepção positiva, o que pode sinalizar o passo inicial na construção de uma Cultura de Paz nesta Escola.

As informações foram provenientes das declarações de óbitos (D.a.) arquivadas e disponíveis na Secretaria de Saúde do Estado ou de dados de mortalidade publicados e divulgados pelo Ministério da Saúde.As variáveis estudadas foram: idade, sexo, local de residência, ano de ocorrência e causa básica do óbito. As análises foram desenvolvidas pela elaboração de índices e coeficientes brutos e específicos por idade e sexo. Foi também calculado o indicador Anos Potenciais de Vida Perdidos.Entre os principais resultados observados constatou-se que as mortes por causas externas vem se tomando mais relevantes passando da quarta posição entre grupos de causas de morte entre 1971 e 1~85 para a segunda e terceira posições a partir de 1987.As causas externas respondem por elevado percentual dos óbitos do sexo masculino (18% em 1989) e em especial entre os homens jovens (58% de 5 a 19 anos). As taxas de mortalidade por causas externas apresentaram 'aumento especialmente na década de 70.Entre os tipos de causas externas mostraram-se mais importantes os acidentes de transporte, outros acidentes - dentre os quais destacam-se as mortes por afogamento ¿ e os homicídios. Os acidentes de transporte e os afogamentos apresentam pequena tendência a redução das taxas na década de 80. Os afogamentos apresentaram taxas superiores aos homicídios na década de setenta.As mortes por homicídios, tanto a mortalidade proporcional como os coeficientes apresentaram importante crescimento no período estudado.Entre os cinco principais grupos de causas de morte, as causas externas constituem o que mais contribuiu com anos potenciais de vida perdidos, desde o início da década de oitenta, o que enfatiza a relevância do problema e a precocidade e evitabilidade destas mortes / Abstract: This study aims to analyze the trends and patterns of deaths from accidents and violence occurred in the population of T eresina, Piaui during the period of 1971 to 1990. The information used in this study were obtained from data published by the Ministry of Health and from the Secretariat of Health of Piaui. The variables analyzed were: age, sex, residence, calendar year and underlying causes of deaths. Global death rates and proportions and specific rates by age, sex and underlying causes of deaths were calculated. It was observed that deaths from accidents and violence were the fourth between the main groups of deaths in 1975 and the second group of causes of death in 1987. "This group of deaths accounted for 18% oftotal men's deaths in 1989 and for 58% among the deaths ofmen aged 5 to 19.The mortality rate from violence and accidents increased during the 1970 decade. The main causes of death in this group were: traffic accidents, others accidents and homicides. The drowning was the main cause among the "other accidents". The motor vehicles accidents deaths rate and the death rates due to drowning decreased slightly after 1980. In the 1970 decade the number of death due to drowning were greater than those due to homicides. The homicide death rates increased during all the time period analyzed. Among ali groups of deaths, the group af violent and accidental causes were the most important in lost years of life, since the beginning of the 1980 decade.
