Volontärresan - En moralisk semester?

Mori, Erica January 2013 (has links)

La interacción amorosa entre hombre y mujer en El adulterio como vocación y otros cuentos : Un estudio sobre las funciones de los personajes en la narrativa breve de Juan José Millás / The love interaction between man and woman in El adulterio como vocación y otros cuentos : A Study of the functions of the characters in the short stories written by Juan José Millás

Johansson, Edwin January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to determine the degree of uniformity in the narrative roles that male and female characters carry out in the relationships in El adulterio como vocacion y otros cuentos (2012), a collection of six short stories written by the Spanish author and journalist Juan José Millás. The analysis is based on the theory of narrative roles, developed by the French literary scholar Claude Bremond in Logique du récit (1973). The analysis concludes that even though some recurrences can be discerned, the two sexes do not have fixed roles throughout the stories. In the first three stories the women tend to be degraders and beneficiaries, while the men shoulder the role of a victim. In the last two stories of the book this situation is reversed. The fourth story differs somewhat from the rest, since both man and woman are mainly beneficiaries.

Prophet of the postmodern : the problem of authenticity in the works of Philip K. Dick

Congdon, Brad 13 August 2008
My project is an examination of the concept of authenticity, as it is problematized in the works of Philip K. Dick; specifically, in his Hugo Award-winning The Man in the High Castle (1962) and in his best-selling novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968). Dick believes that authenticity is essential for human existence, but finds the concept problematized by technologies which make possible increasingly perfect reproductions and replications, as well as by the effect these technologies have on the human subject. Furthermore, these technologies are linked to the economic mode of advanced consumerism.
Taking my lead from Fredric Jameson and the contributors to the journal Science-Fiction Studies, I view Dick's work as a form of cultural criticism, and an engagement with postmodernism. In this light, the problem of authenticity in Dick's work is revealed as symptomatic of his criticism of mass, consumer culture. My thesis therefore becomes an examination of Dick's relationship to postmodernism, with a special focus on how that relationship affects his dealings with the idea of authenticity.

A postmodern glimpse : the principles of Mary Parker Follett in a contemporary workplace

Armstrong, Helen Diane. 01 January 1998 (has links)
This thesis was undertaken to explore the philosophical principles elaborated by Mary Parker Follett (1868-1933) and to examine their relevance in the contemporary workplace. The contention within this thesis was that concepts Follett expounded bear close resemblance to postmodern notions of organizing; juxtaposition of Follettian and postmodern philosophy and a postmodern take on research methodology add credence to the contention and allowed the researcher to examine the practical relevance of the notions explored. A case study within a manufacturing company provided the venue for the practical exploration of Follett's ideas. The original intent of the researcher to conduct focus groups interviews, which would lead to a contextually relevant survey instrument, was changed by the participants. Observation and interviews, which the employees of SEI preferred, allowed an examination of several of the most important of Follett's ideas: "power-with" rather than "power-over"; the "law of the situation"; democratic "small group government"; integration as a more favourable manner of dealing with conflict over voluntary withdrawal, domination, and compromise; the benefits of coordination; circular response in the creation of people; and individual and society as process. The stories of the participants are told and contemporary insights add to those provided by Follett over seven decades ago. It was found that many of Follett's ideas have applicability in a contemporary company. The interviewees displayed exceptional ability to comment regarding the application of Follettian principles within their workplace setting. My integration as researcher-participant allowed for personal transformation based on the experience of the research with its collaboration with the employees, lending credence to the most profound of Follett's insights--the reciprocal creation of people--the circular manner in which we create as we communicate. The significance of the study lies in the process itself--the opportunities provided for the circular creating and communicating of meaning. The study may encourage readers to reexamine the nature of their relationships, as well. While that examination is not the purpose of this research--no claim of generalizability is offered--it is hoped that others may learn lessons from the documentation of the process of this study.

The Way of the Bar: A Postmodern Application of Nietzsche's Methodology

Harden, B. Garrick 2009 December 1900 (has links)
This study is an attempt to combine Nietzschean thought with postmodernism (already greatly influenced by Nietzsche) to take what I am calling a "pastiche approach." I do not mean pastiche in the strictest sense of the word as simply a hodgepodge of various things with little connection to one another but as a combination of modernist schools of thought, such as the structuralists, with various postmodern and poststructural "schools," such as those strains of thought coming from figures such as Jean Baudrillard, Jean Francois Lyotard and Jacque Derrida. I am also referring to various methodological approaches, such as ethnography, historical comparative, textual and content analysis and positivistic approaches. These approaches are used in concert in order to paint a "portrait" from a stance of Nietzschean perspectivism of barworkers as people operating in cultural patterns both local and global.

The relationship between ”the core of identity” and the postmodern society : A qualitative study regarding relationships, identity and the postmodern society

Vestin, Jenny-Ann, Bredenfeldt, Anna January 2010 (has links)
