Strategic Way Of Design In Rem Koolhaas&#039 / Parc De La Villette Project

Ozkan, Ozay 01 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
It is inevitable to observe that, in an urban field any architectural enterprise is subject to changing political, financial, technological and cultural demands. The pressure of these ever-changing forces attempts to modify and replace the initial program and the activities associated with the architectural product. The lifespan and the success of the resulting edifice depend on its ability to respond to such changes. Nevertheless, these ever-changing forces are naturally ambiguous and unpredictable so that architectural program becomes indeterminate. This thesis claims that in order to deal with the programmatic indeterminacy in an urban context, a strategic approach should be employed throughout the design process. Therefore, the thesis critically analyzes the strategic way of design to understand its working principles via examining the Parc de la Villette competition project of Rem Koolhaas/OMA. The mechanism of strategic way of design, how it works, and how it is constructed are the main focus of the thesis.

Deconstruction in landscape architecture

Snead, John Peyton 17 January 2009 (has links)
The possibilities for a rigorous deconstruction in landscape architecture are explored, based largely upon the theoretical work of Jacques Derrida, and the architectural work of Bernard Tschumi. Deconstruction is described in its philosophical context and as a form of literary criticism. This deconstruction is compared with recent architectural projects influenced by Derrida’s ideas, with particular attention to Parc de la Villette by Tschumi. Deconstruction as a design tool is compared to traditional design synthesis, and various methods of applying deconstruction to landscape architecture are described. / Master of Landscape Architecture

Rummet (re)presenterat : Aspekter av arkitekturmodeller på konstutställningar

Sjögren, Molly January 2017 (has links)
The main focus of this thesis is to analyze three architecture models, displayed at three major art museums. Using Roland Barthes concept of the mythology as a meta layer to the language of the exhibition, the study of the models is also a way of studying their visual and institutional environment – thus inquiring into how the display of architectural models, in the context of the modern art exhibition, activates and displaces the discourse of the exhibition. Taking into consideration the different kinds of objects on display (and those that are not), as well as their relation to the artist and the artworks, the discussion is largely affected by the notion of the representation, as well as the ideology of the modernistic narrative. Upon analyzing these aspects, it becomes clear that the models all convey narratives of their own, that in turn are activated and transformed in their dialogue with the rest of the exhibition. The models become part of the larger narrative that visualizes different ideas about modernism and modernity. But the analysis of the interplay between model and display also show how underlying narratives of nationalism and the relationship between art and architecture are a dominant pretext in the exhibitions.

Movements

Johnsson, Anders January 2019 (has links)
This thesis project explores the question of the death of architecture; the declaration of the lost abilities of architecture to achieve political influence and the architect as a social actor. As I have found myself in agreement with this Tafurian perspective on the subject, I wanted to use this thesis project to explore the question of architecture and its political potential, as well as breaking from the paralyzing condition of the incentives of architecture's incapabilities. This, in suggesting that architecture can act as a catalyst for doing things differently. The project investigates, on the one hand,  how a building can encourage political action and engagement, and, on the other, how ideological ideas and intentions can concretize spatially, materially and aesthetically, The project is an design exploration concretized in a specific architectural proposal – a building for a political organization operating in the city of Stockholm.
