Aconselhamento pastoral com pessoas em situação de depressão: um estudo teórico na perspectiva da prática do cuidado

Fernando José Matias 18 December 2014 (has links)
Depression is one of the most frequent disorders, conditions and states within contemporary humanity, so much so that it has been called the psychopathology cold. We live in times of depressions. This prevalence has caused it to impose itself as one of the most challenging situations in current society, thus revealing the need for alternatives which are methodologically reflected upon and deepened in the various areas of knowledge, especially the Human Sciences. In the area of theology, we have opted to focus this present work on pastoral counseling. This because it has its main concerns and interactions related to human suffering, be it individual or collective. In this sense pastoral counseling, which has as a base the Christian faith and the ecclesial community as a therapeutic space of care, presents precious tools, which, as a practical and methodologically reflected action, aim at also interacting, understanding and intervening in what goes on with the person suffering with depression. Therefore, the present research analyzes how pastoral care and pastoral counseling can be developed as ways of caring for people in situations of depression. For this, it verifies the main implications, influences and characteristics of depressions and the states of depression in human life and it does this especially through contributions from the areas of psychiatry and psychology, thus establishing an interdisciplinary dialog of both of these with theology in the construction and improving that which involves the task of knowing how to care for someone. This present thesis is especially tied to the area of Practical Theology, more specifically to caring, pastoral care and pastoral counseling of people weakened by various forms of depression, be they visible or invisible, maintaining itself firm in seeking the promotion of a dignified, transformed and liberated life.

In this paper, some existing cases in Fortaleza were presented, and the characteristics of a female pastoral care and the models found in this field were noted. The models in the field are found in the equation of “permanence and rupture” variables as related to the biblical model of women which permeates the religious mindset of the female ministers. A qualitative methodology was used with life narratives for the purpose of analyzing their life trajectories, understanding what the process is like in the rise of women to the pastoral office in different denominational settings.

Duchovní péče v dětských domovech se zřetelem ke kaplanství / Pastoral care in children's homes with respect to chaplaincy

Plicková, Jana January 2018 (has links)
Children growing up in residential institutions lost chance to live in natural family environment. No wonder they struggle with emotional deprivation, which has a very negative influence on their future lives. Česká školní inspekce (Czech School Inspectorate) is regularly highlighting this issue, and at the same time criticizing lack of educated personell in the institutions, which could provide systematic and long-term care. Even in the Czech secular society, there is growing concern among teachers, psychologists, philosophers, and theologians about lack of transcendence, which is neccessary for healthy children's personality. However, missing transcendent element might be developed by education. There is a chance for the church to step-in, because spiritual care in secular institutions is slowly becoming well-known in the community, due to its benefits. Therefore the subject matter of this thesis is to define the role of chaplaincy in children's homes. Since this subject matter is rather unexplored, it is, in the first chapter, neccessary to introduce the reader to concepts of pastoral care. The second chapter is devoted to the rights and needs of children, while the third describes the institution of children's homes. The fourth chapter introduces us to the concept of chaplaincy and its three...

Rousmart en ritueel : 'n pastorale perspektief

Bothe-Smith, Magrieta Susanna January 2014 (has links)
Grief and ritual : a pastoralperspective This study was undertaken with the aim to investigate the value of ritual for pastoral care, with a specific focus on loss – mainly the loss of a loved one because of death. Ritual is approached from a variety of perspectives in order to build a foundation for an understanding of the origins, functions and purposes of ritual. From this understanding of ritual, the effectiveness of ritual in the practice of pastoral care with the grieving is explored. Not only knowledge of ritual, but also the effect of death on those who are left behind and the process of grieving should be understood before the role of ritual in grief care can be investigated. The pastoral caregiver plays a guiding role in the practice of rituals in grief care. The bereaved should always be the main actor and the ritual should be planned in consultation with the person for whose benefit it is applied and performed. A lack of knowledge concerning the effect of death on people and systems as well as the process of grieving, can lead to people – pastoral caregivers and family, friends and colleagues who form the support system of those in the grief process – doing more harm than good, even though they meant well. Knowledge and an understanding of the process of grieving can enhance the support offered both by pastoral caregivers and by support systems. Since grief work cannot be done in isolation, this study emphasizes the involvement of the supporting group or community of the bereaved. Pastors and the faith community supporting the grieving persons should also beware of and actively oppose damaging theologies with regard to death. This study prefers ‘grief tasks’ that are to be completed, to ‘phases of grief’ through which the person goes, since the latter implies passivity on the side of the bereaved – something that ‘happens to’ them. ‘Grief tasks’, on the other hand, implies an active involvement in working through grief towards a desired outcome and a new future that does not exclude the deceased from the narrative of the lives of the living, but includes it in a way that accepts the death and supplements the new life narrative with memories of the deceased. Rituals of remembrance are pivotal since remembering in a healthy way has healing power for those who grieve. Ritual is found to be a very useful resource in pastoral care with the grieving and bereaved. A cognitive approach to healing is not sufficient. A cognitive-emotive approach is more appropriate, since it involves both mind and emotions. Ritual contributes a further aspect and speaks to a person’s whole being. Ritual can reach beyond words because it is symbolically laden and requires the active participation and performance of the bereaved. When grieving persons make the decision to deal with their loss actively, they will likely reach the desired outcome sooner and more effectively than would otherwise have been the case. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / Practical Theology / unrestricted

A pastoral care response to the false philosophy that poverty breeds deep spirituality

Sibanyoni, Bhekinkosi Simon 08 April 2009 (has links)
The author will use three case studies not only to expose the falsehood of the philosophy that poverty breeds deep spirituality, but also to demonstrate the disastrous effects of poverty to the human body. The dissertation will explore the reasons that caused some poor black ministers, more especially those of the Church of the Nazarene, not only to accept but also to preach positively about the philosophy that poverty breeds deep spirituality. (a) The first case study happened during my first year in the ministry, when the author had to use a bus in order to help my sick wife to hospital. We had to walk for about two hours a distance of almost 500 meters in order to reach the bus stop, because the stipends I received made it impossible for me to hire a transport to the nearest town. The bus driver knew the pathetic conditions faced by the black community, so he could not turn away a critically ill passenger. He opted to allow us into the bus and face whatever difficulties we may encounter along the way. The incident exposed the worse experiences of the poor people. (b ) The second study case involves Themba (Hope), the author’s son, whose anger was betrayed during a Sunday morning service when he refused to have a direct eye contact with the author who was preaching about the God who provides for all of our needs ( Genesis 22:14). His avoidance of a direct eye contact with his father was another way of demonstrating his anger (Carter and Minirth 1993:5). Themba (Hope) demonstrated his dissatisfaction about the pathetic situation of poverty at home during a visit of a missionary Tom Giggs (fictitious name) that he sat directly opposite Giggs in order to expose his pair of trousers that was torn at both knees. Giggs out of embarrassment gave the young man R200 in order to buy clothing. A few years later, Themba was on his to board a train, when unknown persons beat him so much that they left him lying on one of the streets on the city, Johannesburg thinking that he was dead. A Good Samaritan took him home, placed him on his bed then left. We took him to hospital, where doctors had no alternative but to refer him to the St. John’s hospital for the removal of his right eye. The hole where his eye was reminds the family of the beating that our son experienced. (c) The third study case concerns Thabile (Rejoice), the author’s only daughter who resorted to a false marriage as an escape mechanism to the hunger and the ridicule that was experienced in the family. The marriage ended in a divorce just only after three years. Then she died at a time when the animosity was beginning to be healed thus living a ten-year-old son Nkosinathi (Immanuel) behind The dissertation will demonstrate the falsehood of the philosophy that poverty breeds deep spirituality. To the thousands of poor people in our country South Africa, the Constitution with the Bill of Rights that protects our freedom and dignity have no meaning (Pieterse 2001: 1-2). The dissertation will highlight that poverty can never be a blessing (Mc Cauley 1993: 47). The poor people have little income with which to support their families. They eat food of a poor quality with a low nutritional value, resulting in under nourishment and malnutrition. Malnutrition contributes to a poor performance of children in school, and contributes to a lower labour output (De Beer (co – editor) Swanepoel 2000:10). The author supports the scriptural view of the permanence of marriage (Matthew 19:6). However, when the marriage had broken down, the couples needs all the pastoral care they can get as a therapy because Jesus’ mission was to heal the broken hearted (Luke. 4:18). The divorce challenged the author to equip myself on how to deal with those who are hurting, and help the congregants to render effective pastoral care to those in need. The tone of the dissertation is to encourage forgiveness and reconciliation, and to understand that anger and resentment are self-defeating. They hurt the bearer more than they hurt the person they were intended to harm (Warren 2002: 28). Finally, the discipline of philosophy will be engaged in order to help the clergy to avoid the conservative beliefs from their thinking and to apply their faith practically by enabling them to compare the ideas, materials and skills to challenge any problem including the suffering of the clergy and their families. (Obeng el at 2000:33). / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2009. / Practical Theology / unrestricted
