Estudo microestrutural e propriedades magnéticas em ímãs permanentes sinterizados a base de PrFeCoBNb com adições de elementos de ligas / Microstructural study and magnetic properties of PrFeCoBNb-based permanent sintered magnets with alloy additions

Mendes Neto, Teofilo 08 July 2011 (has links)
In this study the magnetic properties of sintered magnets, prepared with a mixture of Pr16Fe76B8 and Pr14FebalCo16B6Nb0.1Mx alloys, where M = Al, Cu, P, Si, Gd, Ga, Dy, Tb and x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 at.% in the same proportions, were correlated with the microstructural features by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). SEM and computer processing of the micrographs were used in order to provide the characteristics associated with the size and shape of the magnetic grains (Φ phase). The correlation used shows that superior squareness factors are associated with rounder and narrower size distribution grains. Considering that the variation in the grain size and coercivity values were not conclusive with SEM, it has been used TEM, micro analysis by EDS and electron diffraction pattern. The coercivity relation with the microstructure was based on investigations of non-magnetic phases, in triple points, and in the grain boundary. With a high resolution transmission microscope (HRTEM), it was possible to observe a regular and continuous layer between the grains of the magnetic phase for the magnet with 0.25 at.% of Ga. The presence of such boundary can be indicated as responsible for higher coercivity values of this magnet. Microstructure was modified in the grain boundary by Ga addition and can be indicated as responsible for coercivity value (1100 mT) 10% higher than Pr15FebalCo8B7Nb0.05 magnet.

Analysis of populations of sites of SM2 (Co, Fe) 17 alloys by Mossbauer spectroscopy

Nagamine, Luiz Carlos Camargo Miranda 16 March 1990 (has links)
Mössbauer measurements were carried out at room temperature for Sm2(Co1-xFex)17 alloys with x=0,1 to 0,6 and Sm2(Co0.9-vFevCu0.08Zr0.02)8.35, with v=0.23 to 0.27. All samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction. They showed rhombohedral structure of th2Zn17 type (R3m), where Fe atoms occupy four crystallographic sites. All spectra showed magnetic splitting and a high complexity resulting from the superposition of four Fe sites. Hyperfine parameters and site populations were obtained by least-squares fitting of the spectra. For Sm2(Co1-xFex)17 alloys, Fe atoms show a strong preference for 2c (dumbbell) sites. In the Zr-containing alloys, on the other hand, this tendency is significantly reduced, confirming A. E. Rays hypothesis on the role of Zr in the improvement of the magnetic properties of these alloys through metallurgical treatments.

Propriedades Magnéticas de Ímãs Aglomerados e Nanocristalinos / Magnetic Properties of bonded and nanocrystalline magnets

Emura, Marilia 24 August 1999 (has links)
Permanent magnets composed of magnetic powders bonded with a polymer represent the fastest growing sector of the magnetic materials market since they are ideal for the fabrication of small motors. This work presents a magnetic and structural characterization of TIve eommereial bonded magnets, Reversible and irreversible components of the total magnetization as well as magnetic interactions in the five commereial magnets are also studied, the magnets are composed by ferrite and MQP-Q nanoerystelline powders and mixtures of these two powders with 80%, 60% and 40% ferrite. Magnelie interactions were analyzed by Henkel plots, gM plots and switching field distributions. In bonded magnets, since the magnetic particles are separated from each other by a binder, it is expected that interactions are mainly dipolar in Nature. There is a progressive change in the data as the fraction of MQP-Q powder is increased. The sample with 100% ferrite shows strong magnetizing interactions at low fields. Date for hybrid magnets present increasing demagnetizing interactions as the fermion of MQP-Q increases and for the 100% MQP-Q sample, the data indicate demagnetizing effects. Reversible and irreversible magnetization components were obtained by applying two methods commanly used in magnetic materials characterization, the DCD -IRM method and the reversible susceptibility method. For the 100% ferrite magnet, in which the reversible component is small, the methods lead lo similar results. The results for both methods diverge as the reversible component! Increases, which in this case occurs with the increase of the MQP-Q powder fraction. The divergence is attributed to the idealized conditions of non-inleracting particles assumed by the DCD-IRM method. Magnetic interactions and lotai magnetization components were also studied in a melt-spun nanocrystalline Nd9Fe85B5 sample. This composition is similar to that of the MQP-Q powder and the magnetic behavior of both the bonded magnetic and the nanocrystalline precursor could be compared. Micromagnetic simulations allowed the evaluation of exchange, anisotropy and magnetostatic interactions on the magnetization reversal of nanocryslalline romposlle systems. The Monte Carlo method was applied lo a linear array of 300 magnetic moments distributed in three grains, two magnetically hard with a soft grain between them.

Modelling, simulation and implementation of a fault tolerant permanent magnet AC motor drive with redundancy.

Zhu, Jingwei January 2008 (has links)
Fault tolerant motor drives are becoming more important in safety critical applications. Although a single motor module fault tolerant drive may be sufficient in some applications, this motor drive only offers limited redundancy. This thesis investigated the dual motor module fault tolerant drive system in which two motor modules were connected electrically in phase and on a common shaft provide redundancy and to increase the reliability of the entire drive system. A general phase current mathematical model to produce the desired output torque was developed to minimize copper loss and torque ripple in the motor drive, which is applicable to both sinusoidal and trapezoidal brushless permanent magnet motor types. A detailed fault effect investigation was performed in this thesis and it is concluded that switch short-circuit fault is the most serious fault since it reduces the electromagnetic torque output significantly and generates larger torque ripple in the motor drive due to the presence of large drag torque. Three fault remedial strategies were proposed to compensate the torque loss and to reduce the torque ripple under different faulty conditions. It is concluded from the analytical results that fault remedial strategy 3 is the tradeoff algorithm in which the zero torque ripple factor can be achieved with only a modest increase in copper loss comparing with the minimum possible value. Two practical dual motor module fault tolerant brushless permanent magnet drive test arrangements with different motor structures were developed in this thesis. The computer simulation studies using the MATLAB Simulink were performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed fault remedial strategies. The efficiency of the motor drive was predicted based on torque loss measurements and the results were verified in the simulation study. The effect of faults on the drive efficiency was investigated as well. The entire fault tolerant motor drive control system was also developed to verify the analytical and simulation results. A fault detection and identification method to detect switch open-circuit faults, switch short-circuit faults, and the winding short-circuit faults was also proposed. Its advantages are the simplicity of the implementation and reduction of the cost of the drive system. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed fault remedial strategies can be implemented in real time motor control and are effective to compensate the torque loss and reduce the torque ripple. / Thesis (Ph.D.) -- University of Adelaide, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2008

High Temperature, Buried Permanent Magnet, Brushless DC Motor

Zhang, Zhengxin 2010 August 1900 (has links)
A high temperature magnetic bearing system using high temperature permanent magnets from Electron Energy Corporation (EEC) is under development. The system consists of two radial bearings, one thrust bearing, two radial catcher bearings and one motor. The purpose of this research is to develop one of the critical components of the system, namely, the High Temperature Permanent Magnet motor. A novel High Temperature Permanent Magnet (HTPM) Brushless DC(BLDC) motor capable of operating at 1000 degrees F (538 degrees C) is designed. HTPMs developed at Electron Energy Corporation are buried into the rotor. The high temperature motor is designed to produce 5.1kw of power at a top running speed of 20000 rpm. The numerical values of the motor voltage, power and torque output are predicted from calculations of the nonlinear finite element model of the motor. The motor stator is wound, potted, cured and high potential tested at 1000 degrees F. A servo amplifier from Advanced Motion Control is used to drive the high temperature motor. High temperature displacement sensors are set up for sensing the rotor position to form a closed loop motion control. However, the noise problem of the high temperature sensors causes a failure of this approach. An open loop approach is then developed and this approach succeeds in spinning the rotor with the capability of self-starting. The status of the full system assembling is introduced. Some other components of the system are briefly presented.
