Peruvian women in Catalonia : A Study on the social position of Peruvian female migrants in the labour market

von Unge, Agnes January 2015 (has links)
This    qualitative research investigates the social positions of Peruvian female migrants in the Catalan labour market in Spain. It questions how social categories interactin order to determine the social positions of individuals, a nd how the positions can be related to a global  world structure.   Four unstructured life story interviews with  Peruvian women resident in  Catalonia were realized in December 2014. The interviews and two previously made studies have then been reviewed by a narrative analysis. The research formed a theoretical framework of intersectionality interpreted by Nina Yuval-Davis, and a globalization and female migration theory by Saskia Sassen.  The analysis with the  implementation of theories showed that nationality has a particularly strong influence in the intersection of social categories, though one must understand how all the identifications lay imbedded in each other in order to determine the social position of each individual. It was  also concluded that an intersection of the identifications of the individuals interacts with global structures in order to determine the  social positions of the study participants in the Catalan labour market. The city of Barcelona  could through the lives of the four Peruvian females be seen as an economic centre that demands cheap labour by migrants, and where the social positions in the labour market can show a division of core and peripheral countries.

The infliction of descent : an overview of the Capanahua descendants' explanations of the generative process

Krokoszyński, Łukasz January 2016 (has links)
This thesis traces the ways of explaining the generative process by the eastern Peruvian descendants of the Capanahua. These predominately Spanish-speaking people tend to emphasize the discontinuity with their ancestors, a little known Panoan-speaking indigenous population of the Western Amazon. Based on ethnographic fieldwork and transcriptions of recorded conversations, this presentation follows and reconstructs a salient frustrative-generative dynamic in a wide range of representations, wherein alterations of self-containment or perceptibility incept the processes of differentiation and discontinuity. These processes guide a local conception of “descent” as infliction. Implications of this dynamic are examined for the formulations of kinship. The familial relations, explicitly based on notions of consanguinity and filiation – are cast in an ambiguous, if not predominately negative light. Procreation is formulated in predatory, parasitic terms, and shares dynamics with pathogenic causality and aetiology. As such, it does not naturally contribute to reproduction and continuity, but rather frustrates it by introducing difference into the vertical axis. Such results also produce horizontal differences and hierarchies, encoded as the person's divergent, hidden “descent” in the always “mixed” social life. This image of the generative process is instrumental to understanding the villagers' explanations of the acculturative processes. Because representations of acculturation focuses on the idiom of procreation and its frustrative results, it appears as the very function of procreative dynamics. This produces a series of associations between the progeny and sociality, focusing on their inherently “third” or external position and perpetual dividuality of belonging/containing. Such ambiguity might be tamed and everted, to produce cleansing or encompassment that counteracts the divisive continuity of time (qua descent, history, or kinship). In a contemporary context, these formulations are seen reflected in the villagers' construal of the Peruvian state as the urban environment that is hierarchically closer to the ideal originality and beautiful imperishability than the smaller, isolated unities of rural ancestors.

Extractive industries, indigenous peoples protest and consultation inthe Peruvian Amazon / Industrias extractivas, protesta indígena y consulta en la Amazonía peruana

Benavides, Margarita 25 September 2017 (has links)
This article analyzes the evolution of the natural resources tenure inthe Peruvian Amazon, and its relation with the indigenous protest ofthe years 2008 and 2009. The authoress argue that during the indigenousprotest aroused two opposite visions of development: the visionof the government supporting the big capital interests in one side, and the vision of the indigenous peoples defending their territoriesas a source of their material and identity survival. Nevertheless, theAwajún and Wampis suffered the disproportional repression of thegovernment in Bagua, with bloody results, the main four decreesthat were in the origin of the protest, because they threatened thejuridical security of indigenous peoples territories were derogated, and the indigenous peoples right to be consulted, established by theConvention 169 of the International Law Organization, was placed inthe center of the national debate. Nevertheless, the government hasresisted its application, because these consultations would imply aseries of socio environmental conditionings to the extractive industriesand the big scale infrastructure constructions. The authoresssustains that the conflict will continue if public policies in favor ofindigenous peoples would not be developed. For the establishmentof these public policies another vision of development is requiredfrom the State and government.

Empirical and Numerical Finite-Element-Based Model to Improve Narrow Vein Mine Design in Peruvian Mining

Belizario-Calsin, M., Belizario-Calsin, M., Condori-Cardenas, R., Pehovaz-Alvarez, H., Raymundo-Ibanez, C., Perez, Moises 28 February 2020 (has links)
This paper proposes a numerical finite-element-based model aimed at optimizing narrow-vein stope stability. This model combines empirical and numerical methods to develop a sequence, which may determine an acceptable stope safety factor. A stope stability analysis was conducted through the Mathews stability graph method, which requires two factors: the hydraulic radius (HR) and stability number (N'). The Mathews stability graph method is used to assess the stability of an underground design. Variations in stope dimensions are estimated by changing the HR and Factor A within the N', which is determined through numerical methods. The results of the numerical simulation indicate that the HR increases with an increase in stope dimensions, while Factor A maintains an inverse relationship with the maximum stress induced on the excavation walls. This document demonstrates the potential of combining empirical and numerical methods in stope design optimization, especially when developed in small narrow vein mines.

Centro de Difusión y Crianza del Caballo Peruano de Pasco / Center of dissemination and breeding of the Peruvian Paso Horse

Miranda Pejoves, Camila Patricia 12 September 2019 (has links)
Nowadays, the Paso Horse is a Peruvian icon and is a source of pride, as it is a race recognized considered the most comfortable saddle horse in the world, consequently, this is reflected in the growing demand abroad, as well as in the domestic demand of the country. This project includes a breeding center, and dissemination of the Peruvian Paso horse. It is raised in the district of Lurin, in order to boost the Peruvian horse passing culturally an recreationally. An architecture is proposed that provides unique experiences and allows to perceive connection with animals. This will be achieved by searching for the relationship between Man and Horse scales, to reinterpret the typology and achieve spaces that integrate the activities of the spectator and the animals, so that they could all have a vivid experience in the center. On the other hand, it seeks to expose the passing horse in all its splendor, allowing the visitor to stay and enjoy the horses, as well as the architecture that will complement the show. Currently, the Lurin district is characterized by concentrating the activity related to the Peruvian Paso Horses. The chosen terrain will complement an already established circuit, benefiting the viability of the project. / Tesis

However, to state a conversation using sign language, it is also necessary to employ dynamic gestures. We propose a method to extract a feature vector for dynamic gestures of PSL. We collect a dataset with 288 video sequences of words related to dynamic gestures and we state a workflow to process the keypoints of the hands, obtaining a feature vector for each video sequence with the support of a video summarization technique. We employ 9 neural networks to test the method, achieving an average accuracy ranging from 80% and 90%, using 10 fold cross-validation.

Cultural adaptation and validation of SATAQ-4 “Sociocultural attitudes towards appearance questionnaire-4” for peruvian population

Zevallos-Delzo, Carolina, Maguiña, Jorge L., Catacora, Manuel, Mayta-Tristán, Percy 01 March 2020 (has links)
Introduction: Eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia) have been increasing worldwide and nationally. Prior to the development of this disorder, adolescents' present body dissatisfaction, whose study through the ¨Tripartite Influence Model¨ gives us three main pressures: Pressure from parents, media and peers. Factors that are studied through SATAQ-4. We conduct a study to validate the Peruvian version of SATAQ-4 "Sociocultural Attitudes Toward Appearance Questionnaire-4". Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in 2015. It was started by culturally adapting the test. Subsequently, validity was determined through the validity of the construct, and reliability through internal consistency assessment and intra-observer reliability (test-retest). Results: We obtained a culturally adapted instrument which presented a mean greater than 3 in the Delphi method, an intraclass correlation equal to 0.83 and an internal consistency (Cronbach alpha) of 0.90. The confirmatory factor analysis supported the original five-factor structure and the convergent validity analysis (r Pearson) when compared with BSQ a correlation of 0.70. Conclusions: The instrument adequately measures the construct for which it was created and can be applied in the Peruvian university environment. / National Institutes of Health / Revisión por pares

Communities of Water: An Examination of Cooperation and Conflict in Water Management Practices in the Central Peruvian Andes

Littledale, Sylvie D. 20 April 2022 (has links)
This thesis explores two examples of water management in the highland Peruvian villages, San Pedro de Llancha and San Antonio de Chinchina. One example is of cooperation and union between the two communities. The other is of conflict between the same two villages just 40 years prior. I examine ethnographic and ethnohistorical data from both the collaborative period and the conflictive period of these two communities’ relations over water. The data suggest that, while the outcomes of these two periods were drastically different, the processes through which these communities came into relation with one another were quite similar. Their communal union or fragmentation depended on subtle differences in their positional relations to a common resource, water, others who needed the resource, and external entities who had authority over that resource. The result is two neighboring sister communities who flow in to and out of each other’s communal orbit according to circumstance and practice, rather than permanent, abstract village identity.

Cultural studies have approached with special interest the discussion around the contemporary meanings of this term. This study proposes the concept of gastronomic identity and examines its definition based on Stuart Hall's research on discursive identity. The explanatory capacities of this concept will become evident when it is applied to the case of Peruvian gastronomy through the analysis of texts located at the beginning of the so-called Peruvian gastronomic boom between 1980 and 1995. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.
