Tyrimų pagrindimas. Dubravos eksperimentinės mokomosios miškų urėdijos įsigyto šlapio sėklų nusparninimo įrenginio „Nomeco Dewinger B1086” naudojimo instrukcijoje nėra nurodytas optimalus paprastosios pušies ir paprastosios eglės sėklų nusparninimo laikas. Tam, kad optimizuoti šlapio nusparninimo laiką aukščiau minėtame įrenginyje reikalingi tyrimai kaip sėklų nusparninimo kokybė priklauso nuo nusparninimo trukmės. Tyrimo tikslas buvo nustatyti optimalią paprastosios pušies ir paprastosios eglės sėklų nusparninimo trukmę šlapiojo nusparninimo metodu įrenginyje „Nomeco Dewinger B1086”. Tyrimo uždaviniai: (1) atlikti 15, 30, 45, 60 ir 120 minučių trukmės paprastosios pušies ir paprastosios eglės sėklų nusparninimo testus sėklų nusparninimo įrenginyje „Nomeco Dewinger B1086”, kiekvienai rūšiai naudojant tris skirtingas sėklų siuntas, (2) nustatyti paprastosios eglės ir paprastosios pušies sėklų nusparninimo kokybę priklausomai nuo sėklų nusparninimo trukmės. Tyrimo objektas yra sėklų nusparninimo kokybės testai, atlikti sėklų šlapiojo nusparninimo principu veikiančiame nusparninimo įrenginyje „Nomeco Dewinger B1086”. Tyrimo metodai. Kiekvienam iš 15, 30, 45, 60 ir 120 minučių trukmės nusparninimo bandymų buvo naudotos 3 skirtingos paprastosios eglės ir 3 skirtingos paprastosios pušies sėklų siuntos. However, in its manual, there is no indication how much time it takes to dewing the seeds of pine and spruce. In order to optimize the time of the wet dewinging it is necessary to explore whether the quality of dewinging is influenced by the period of time that the process of dewinging takes. The main aim of the research is to determine the optimal time that a method of a wet dewinging takes with „Nomeco Dewinger B1086”.
The Tasks of the Thesis. To perform 15, 30, 45, 60, and 120 min long dewinging tests for the seeds of pine and spruce with a dewinger for the wet seedlots „Nomeco Dewinger B1086”, using three different kinds of seeds of each tree.
To detect the quality of dewinging of a pine and a spruce depending on the time the process takes.
The objects of the thesis are the tests of the seeds dewinging, carried out with the device „Nomeco Dewinger B1086”.
The methods of the Thesis. In each of 15, 30, 45, 60, and 120 minutes long tests of dewinging were used three different kinds seeds of pine and spruce.
For each of the time period test were used four samples of the seeds, each consisting of one hundred seeds. All in all, there were 12 000 seeds that were evaluated. Les hêtraies-sapinières-pessières de montagne paraissent particulièrement menacées par le réchauffement climatique. Pour appréhender la dynamique future de ces forêts et adapter la sylviculture à ces nouvelles conditions, il est important de mieux connaître les facteurs environnementaux impactant la démographie de ces espèces. Nous avons abordé cette problématique en combinant des données historiques de gestion, le modèle de dynamique forestière Samsara2 et une méthode de calibration basée sur le Calcul Bayésien Approché. Nous avons ainsi pu étudier conjointement les différents processus démographiques dans ces forêts. Nos analyses montrent que la démographie forestière peut varier fortement entre les parcelles et que le climat n'est pas toujours déterminant pour expliquer ces variations. Ainsi, malgré les changements climatiques attendus, la gestion irrégulière pratiquée actuellement devrait permettre de maintenir les services rendus par les peuplements mélangés situés en conditions mésiques. / The spruce-fir-beech mountain forests could be particularly threatened by the global warming. To better understand the future dynamics of these forests and adapt the silviculture to these new conditions, a better knowledge of the environmental factors affecting the species demograhics is needed. We studied this issue by combining a historical management data set, the forest dynamics model Samsara2 and a calibration method based on Approximate Bayesian Computation. We were able thus to study jointly the different demographic process in these forests. Our analysis show that the forest demographics can strongly vary between stands and that climate is not always determining to explain these variations. The unven-aged management currently applied seem adapted for the mixed stands located in mesic conditions, but the pure spruce forests and the low elevation stands could be highly impacted.

Response of forest succession to agricultural land-abandonment in the Giant Mountains ABSTRACT: Since the end of the 19th century, there is undergoing process of land-abandonment of mountain meadows and pastures in most of the European mountains, including the Giant Mountains. Mountain agriculture in the Giant Mountains was terminated no later than before World War II. Abandoned meadows were then subjected to secondary forest succession. The question is, how fast was this succession and how was its dynamics. My research was focused on 4 areas of interest, located in the vicinity of former mountain huts. Methods applied included the analysis of historical maps and aerial photographs and dendrochronological research of age structure of Norway spruce (Picea abies) stands. The aim of this thesis was to find out the extent of mountain agriculture near the huts and the dynamics of forest succession following land abandonment. Main peaks of seedlings establishment were observed in a very short time (10 - 20 years) following termination of mountain agriculture and in most cases these peaks were further followed by one or two more weaker peaks in the later periods. The aim of this diploma thesis is a proposal of a methodology used for an assessment of the measure of defoliation based on the multispectral satellite images from missions Landsat and Sentinel-2. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the introduction of the problematics of remote sensing using multispectral sensors and the basics of research into forest vegetation. Following on this part, there is a chapter considering possibilities of monitoring defoliation using resources of remote sensing, and the closely connected problematics of the health condition of forest vegetation. After that comes a description of the used data (the satellite images and the data of ground investigation by VÚLHM) and logically compounded process of transformation of the data from satellite images on the levels of defoliation. Outcomes of the thesis include analysis of the ability of single spectral bands and vegetation indices to predict defoliation of Norway spurce (Picea abeis) and Scots pine (Pius sylvestris) vegetation. The assessment of the measure of defoliation is demonstrated on single band in near-infrared region with used of linear regression model.

Dendroklimatologische und dendroökologische Untersuchungen des Zuwachsverhaltens von Buche und Fichte in naturnahen MischwäldernGrundmann, Britt 08 April 2009 (has links)
Vor dem Hintergrund sich verändernder Umweltbedingungen durch den allgegenwärtigen Klimawandel wächst das Interesse an Vorhersagen zur zukünftigen Waldentwicklung. Der prognostizierten Häufung von Witterungsextremen wird ein wesentlicher Einfluss auf das Wachstum und die Vitalität der Waldbaumarten zugeschrieben. Wichtige Erkenntnisse bringen hier Untersuchungen zu den physiologischen Wachstumsgrenzen der Gehölze, die sich besonders deutlich an deren heutigen Verbreitungsgrenzen nachweisen lassen. An diesen offenbart sich das Potential einer Baumart, die Migration unter zukünftigen Bedingungen fortsetzen zu können. Großes Interesse herrscht an ökonomisch wichtigen Baumarten wie der Gemeinen Fichte (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) und der Rot-Buche (Fagus sylvatica L.). Deren Wuchsverhalten unter natürlichen Bedingungen, in natürlich erwachsenen Mischwäldern wurde in der vorliegenden Arbeit an den derzeitigen Arealsgrenzen beider Arten in Südschweden (Rågetaåsen, Siggaboda, Tolseboda) untersucht. Als Vergleichsstandort diente ein Naturwald im Harz (Rehberg), welcher geografisch zentral im Verbreitungsgebiet der Buche liegt und durch seine montane Höhenlage ideale Wuchsbedingungen für die Fichte liefert. Mittels dendroklimatologischer Analysemethoden wurden die wesentlichen, den radialen Zuwachs beeinflussenden Witterungsvariablen bestimmt und deren Anpassung bzw. Veränderung über verschiedene Zeitintervalle untersucht. Dendroökologische Untersuchungen ermöglichten einen Blick in die vergangene Entwicklung der Mischbestände und das Konkurrenzverhalten beider Baumarten untereinander. Diese Untersuchungen wurden auf zwei Ebenen durchgeführt: auf der Bestandesebene und auf der Ebene kleinerer Untersuchungsgruppen, durch welche direkte Konkurrenzsituationen der intra- und interspezifischen Beeinflussung analysiert werden konnten. Beide Methoden sind retrospektiver Natur und ermöglichen daher in der Hauptsache eine Analyse und Interpretation des vergangenen Zuwachsverhaltens. Doch erlauben beobachtete Trends in der Vergangenheit eine vorsichtige Prognose der Entwicklung von Waldbeständen auf vergleichbaren Standorten. Die dendroklimatologischen Analysen zeigten, dass beide Baumarten eine interessante Variabilität in den jeweiligen zuwachsbeeinflussenden Witterungsvariablen aufweisen. Die Haupteinflussgröße für den Buchenzuwachs ist ein trocken-heißer Vorjahres-Sommer mit Schwerpunkt auf den Monaten Juli und August. Dieser Einfluss zeigt sich seit Beginn des Beobachtungszeitraums, aber seit etwa 1950 verstärkt er sich bedeutend und erfährt seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre eine weitere Steigerung. Die wesentliche Witterungsvariable für den Fichtenzuwachs war bis etwa in die 1950er Jahre ein positiver Einfluss der Niederschläge im Sommer der Ringbildung mit Schwerpunkt auf dem Juni. Seither verschwindet dieser Einfluss jedoch auf fast allen Standorten und weicht einer, der Buchen ähnlichen Dürreempfindlichkeit gegenüber den vorjährigen Spätsommern. Die retrospektive Analyse der Bestandesgeschichte mittels langjähriger Zuwachszeitreihen ermöglicht eine Interpretation der vergangenen Entwicklung der Waldbestände und liefert eine Erklärung für das aktuelle Erscheinungsbild. Auf den schwedischen Standorten zeigt sich im radialen wie im Höhenzuwachs ein deutlicher Vorteil der Fichten. Auf den Standorten Siggaboda und Tolseboda bildet die Buche unter der Fichte sogar die zweite Baumschicht. Im Gegensatz zum Standort Rågetaåsen liegen diese beiden Standorte bereits außerhalb des natürlichen Verbreitungsgebiets von Buchenwäldern, aber im Gebiet der Buchen-Fichten-Wälder. Hier erkennt man deutlich einen Konkurrenzvorteil der Fichte. Am Vergleichsstandort Rehberg erkennt man dagegen das grundsätzlich große Potential der Buche, ähnliche Zuwächse zu leisten wie die Fichte. Das Konkurrenzverhältnis wirkt hier relativ ausgeglichen. Direkte Konkurrenzsituationen zwischen den Baumarten ergeben sich an Randzonen der natürlich gewachsenen reinartigen Gruppen. Es zeigte sich, dass die Buche in unmittelbarer Konkurrenz zur Fichte benachteiligt wird. Im umgekehrten Falle kann die Fichte in Abhängigkeit von ihrer sozialen Stellung sogar von einer Mischung mit Buche profitieren. Diese Ergebnisse gelten für die schwedischen Standorte wie auch für den Harz, wobei die Buchen am Rehberg ein größeres Potential erkennen lassen, dem Druck der Fichten entgegenzustehen. Der Einfluss singulärer Witterungsextreme auf das Wachstum beider Baumarten konnte an starken Zuwachseinbrüchen nachgewiesen werden. Doch in den meisten Fällen zeigte sich bereits im Folgejahr wieder ein ausgeglichenes Wachstum. Eine Herausforderung wird die zukünftige Häufung von Extremen mit fehlenden Erholungsphasen sein. Im letzten Jahrzehnt konnten bereits Sekundärfolgen großer Trockenheiten und deren Einfluss auf den Zuwachs beobachtet werden. Ergeben sich aus derartigen Situationen Schwierigkeiten für eine Baumart, ist dies ein sicheres Zeichen dafür, dass sie an ihre physiologischen Grenzen gerät. Am Standort Siggaboda konnte dies bereits für die Fichten beobachtet werden. Auch am Rehberg stellten sich in den letzten Jahren Bedingungen ein, die der Buche Schwierigkeiten bereiten. Aus den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen lässt sich entnehmen, dass das Konkurrenzverhältnis zwischen Buche und Fichte seit den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten begonnen hat, sich zu verändern. Am südexponierten Hangstandort im Harz scheint die bisher sehr konkurrenzstarke Buche an ihre physiologische Grenze zu geraten. Auf den schwedischen Standorten wird die Buche möglicherweise von wärmeren Sommern und verlängerten Vegetationsperioden profitieren, während die Fichte an die südliche, klimatische Verbreitungsgrenze der borealen Wälder gelangt zu sein scheint. / Against the background of a changing environment due to climate change the interest in prognoses of the development of forest ecosystems increases. The growth and the vitality of forest tree species will mainly be influenced by increased frequency of extreme weather conditions. The analysis of the physiological limits of tree growth has to be conducted at the borders of the natural distribution range of species. Main focus lies on economical important tree species as Common beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst.).Growth and competition performance of these two species was investigated under natural conditions in naturally grown mixed forests at both species distribution limits in Southern Sweden (Rågetaåsen, Siggaboda, Tolseboda). As a reference a natural forest in the Harz Mountains (Rehberg) was chosen. By means of dendroclimatological methods the main influencing climate variables and their modifications over time were analysed. Dendroecological methods allow the retrospective analysis of forest history and the development of the competition behaviour of both species in the past. These analyses were conducted on two levels: stand level and plot level. The latter permits the analysis of direct competition situations, intra- and interspecific. By means of these retrospective methods potential trends might be detected and thus allow forecasts for the development of forest stands on comparable sites. Dendroclimatological analyses showed, that both tree species exhibit interesting variability in its main influencing climate variables. The radial growth of beech is mainly determined by warm-dry summers of the previous year with focus on July and August. This influence increases since the 1950s and even stronger since the mid 1990s. Main factor for spruce growth was summer precipitation with focus an June. This influence nearly vanished on all sites since the 1950s. Since then the main climate signal of spruce growth is a sensitivity to drought of previous summers, equally to beech. The retrospective analysis of forest history by means of long-term tree-ring series allows an interpretation of past development of the forest stands and provides explanations for the current appearance. On the Swedish sites the advance of spruce in radial as in height growth is obvious. In Siggaboda and Tolseboda beech even forms the secondary species. These sites lie beyond northern limits of Fagus forests but within Fagus-Picea forests. The advantage of spruce is considerable. Though, on the reference site Rehberg the high potential of beech, to achieve comparable tree-ring widths, is distinct. Here, the competition performance is nearly balanced. At borders of naturally grown pure groups direct competition situations between the species can be found. It could be shown, that beech is disadvantaged under immediate competition with spruce. But in inverse situations, spruce, depending on its social state, even benefits of growing in mixture with beech. These results can be found on the Swedish sites as well as in the Harz Mountains, though, beech at the Rehberg shows a much higher potential to stand against the competition of spruce. Singular impacts of extreme weather conditions on tree growth can be clearly, but in most cases growth is regulated one year later. However, future challenge for tree species will be the increased frequency of extreme conditions without phases of recovery. In the past decade secondary complications of drought and its influence on growth could already be detected. This affects both species similarly. Does a species get disadvantaged due to such situations, would mean that it reaches its physiological limits. In Siggaboda this could be already shown for spruce and at the Rehberg for beech. As a result this study shows, that the competition situation between beech and spruce has begun to change since the last two decades. On exposed sites as the Rehberg, beech trees might reach its physiological limits. On the Swedish sites, however, beech trees could benefit from warm summers and prolonged vegetation periods. In contrast, spruce probably has reached its southern, climatically determined distribution limit of boreal forests.

Previous field research show, that late successional species correspond with soil development, especially with organomineral A horizon developing. Aim of my thesis was to compare plant growth on different types of soil from spoil heaps. They were taken from three chronosequencies of different age - nonrecultivated and soils recultivated with planting of alder (Alnus) and spruce (Picea). In my research were used 7 types of plants - Arrhenatherum elatius, Centaureae jacea, Festuca rubra, Lychnis flos-cuculi, Lotus corniculatus, Plantago major, Trifolium medium. Spontaneous sites support more species than reclaimed ones this difference increase with plot age without distinct difference between early and late succession species. The Influence of pH, Temperature and Number of Wash Steps on the Washing Efficiency of CTMP PulpMonlars, André January 2021 (has links)
In this report, the washing efficiency of chemi-thermomechanical pulp (CTMP) from Norway spruce (Picea abies) was investigated when adjusting the temperature and pH during washing as well as implementing different number of wash steps. Concurrent effects of having a high pH and temperature were also examined. CTMP pulp has many uses, one of which is for the manufacturing of packaging board. Lately, this end product has seen a precipitous increase due to the increasing demand of an environmentally friendly alternative within the food packaging sector. A notorious problem associated with all mechanical pulps is how extractives are to a large extent still present after the pulping process, especially unsaturated lipids which are subject to oxidation. This results in the formation of odorous aldehydes that can be easily transferred into the food product, thus contaminating it by altering the perception of taste and odor. This is a frequent problem faced by the status quo liquid board industry. Washing is thus employed late downstream to lower the final wood resin content. Here, available literature has been collated for some basic introductory subjects such as softwood anatomy, wood resin and structures. All of this is described with a focus on softwood, leading up to a thorough breakdown of P. abies. Mechanical pulping and relevant deresination methods for CTMP production are also described, including washing. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the trends of the final resin concentration as the chosen parameters are altered during washing. The pulp was provided by Rottneros Mill and their industrial process was simulated by using a Büchner funnel for washing. A Soxhlet extractor was used for determining the final extractive contents. It was found that the implementation of additional wash steps reduced the final resin content (1–4 wash steps). The same was found with increasing temperature (60, 70, 80 and 90 °C). The implementation of a fourth wash step seemed to be more efficient at higher temperatures. No conclusions could be drawn from altering the pH due to scattered data points with high uncertainties (pH 7, 8 and 9). The results are limited in terms of significance and are also subject to bias. / I denna rapport undersöktes tvätteffektiviteten av kemitermomekanisk massa (CTMP, chemi-thermomechanical pulp) tillverkad från gran (Picea abies) och hur den påverkas vid justeringar av temperatur, pH och antal tvättsteg. Ytterligare undersöktes förekomsten av eventuella samverkande effekter vid högre temperatur och pH. CTMP-massa har många användningsområden, däribland vid produktion av vätskekartong. På sistone har efterfrågan av vätskekartong ökat markant som ett svar på en allt större strävan efter ett mer miljövänligt alternativ inom matförpackningssektorn. Ett välkänt problem associerat med mekanisk massatillverkning är den stora mängden exktraktivämnen som kvarhålls i den färdiga massan. En viss del av dessa extraktivämnen utgörs av fleromättade fetter vilket är benägna att genomgå oxidation. Detta leder i sin tur till bildandet av flyktiga aldehyder som kan föras vidare till matprodukten och ge dem förändrad smak och lukt; ett problem som dagens vätskekartongproducenter står inför. Tillgänglig litteratur har sammanställts, där en inledande teoridel beskriver koncept såsom anatomi, strukturer och extraktivämnen hos barrved. Teoridelen övergår därefter till att ge en mer detaljerad beskrivning av P. abies och dess extraktivinnehåll. Ytterligare beskrivs mekanisk massatillverkning över lag och metoder för att eliminera extraktivämnen under produktionen av CTMP-massa (inklusive tvättning). Syftet med detta examensarbete är att utvärdera de trender i den slutliga extraktivhalten då de valda parametrarna justeras under tvättning. Massan tillhandahölls av Rottneros Bruk och deras tvättningsprocess simulerades med hjälp av en Büchner-tratt. En Soxhlet-extraktor användes för att utvärdera den slutliga extraktivhalten. Det visade sig att vid varje insättning av ett ytterligare tvättsteg (1–4 tvättsteg) gav en lägre extraktivhalt hos CTMP-massan. Desamma gällde vid ökande temperatur (60, 70, 80 and 90 °C). Implementering av ett fjärde tvättsteg tycks vara mer effektivt vid högre temperaturer. Det kunde dock inte dras några slutsatser huruvida pH påverkade tvättningen då dessa mätvärden fick stor spridning med höga osäkerheter (pH 7, 8 och 9). Resultaten besitter begränsad signifikans och kan även ha blivit utsatta för bias.

Ecology of lichens in boreal coniferous forests with reference to spatial and temporal patternsEsseen, Per-Anders January 1983 (has links)
The thesis deals with the ecology of lichens in two contrasting types of forest, epiphytic lichens in old Picea abies forest of the fi re-refugia type and epigeic as well as epixylic lichens in a successional sequence of fire- susceptible Pinus sylvestris forests. Results in five separate papers form the basis for a discussion of general patterns of dispersal, succession and life strategies in lichens. The study sites were located in Medelpad and Västerbotten, in the central and northern part of Sweden, respectively. Special attention has been paid to the rare, pendulous, spruce-1ichen Usnea longissima and the coexisting lichen species. U. longissima is largely restricted to north-facing hill slopes covered with old, mesic spruce forest that is characterized by a very long continuity not disturbed by fire. A marked decline in the number of sites with U. longissima was found. The decline was mainly due to the effect of different forestry practices as the species is very sensitive to environmental disturbances. The epiphytic lichen vegetation of six tree species occurring in the spruce forest is described. Clear successional trends with increasing tree size were • obtained for Alectoria sarmentosa, Bryoria fuscescens coll., B. nadvornikiana, Usnea filipendula' and U. subflorida'na, to a lesser extent for Bryoria capii-“" laris while U. longissima had no relationship to tree size or age. TTstudy of the litterfall of macrofragments of epiphytic lichens showed that thallus fragments were dispersed throughout the year with late autumn, winter and early spring as the most critical periods. It is suggested that dispersal through thallus fragmentation is more important in fruticose than in foliose species and that U. longissima has a shorter range of propagule transport than the other species of Alectoria, Bryoria and Usnea studied. The latter proposition was supported through a study of the horizontal patterns of lichen occurrence in the spruce forest. It is shown that the diversity in ground vegetation, after an initial increase, declines with succession in the pine forests. A mechanism of succession in ground vegetation is presented which suggest that variations in habitat heterogeneity, i.e. the diversity of substrates caused by the initial disturbance and the stand development, largely determines diversity changes during succession. Growth Reactions of Sub-Alpine Norway Spruce (Picea Abies (L.) Karst) Following One-Sided Light Exposure (Case Study at Davos "Lusiwald")Bräker, Otto U., Baumann, Ernst January 2006 (has links)
In 1982, several rectangular openings were cut in a 100 year old sub-alpine Norway spruce forest stand to initiate regeneration at the Lusiwald site at Davos, Switzerland. The openings on the steep, north-facing slope created rapid changes to the environment of the border trees. Growth reactions of these border trees were compared and analysed with reference trees from the adjacent closed canopy stand in 1997. The radial growth pattern of the two data sets differed within the 14-year period since the openings were cut; the border trees showed growth releases. The growth reaction at the stem base was larger than at breast height. Changes in wind exposure may have influenced border trees to adapt their root systems. Sub-alpine Norway spruce stands aged around 100 years, which are usually considered slow-growing on a north aspect, still seem capable of reacting to greater resource availability such as sudden light changes.

Dendroarchaeology In Southwestern Nova Scotia And The Construction Of A Regional Red Spruce ChronologyRobichaud, André, Laroque, Colin P. 06 1900 (has links)
Dendrochronology studies in Atlantic Canada are rare partly because old-growth forests are
scarce making it difficult to establish multiple-century tree-ring chronologies. One approach to
overcome this problem is to use tree-ring records found in the wood of historical structures. For our study, the Sinclair Inn in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, was selected for a dendroarchaeological assessment because of its rich and complex history: it resulted from the merging of two early 18th Century houses (the Soullard and Skene houses). To date the Sinclair Inn, three other historical structures of a younger age were used to establish an annual ring record in lieu of old-growth forest data. Red spruce (Picea rubens), a dominant tree species in the Maritimes, was the most prominent wood found in the structures and allowed for the creation of a regional red spruce reference chronology extending far enough into the past to cover the supposed period of construction of the Sinclair Inn. Crossdating results indicate cutting dates of 1709 and 1710 for the Skene and Soullard houses, respectively, and 1769 for the inn itself. In the process of dating the structure, a ,200-year long regional floating red spruce chronology (1591–1789) was developed that will further help future dendrochronological investigations in the Maritimes.
