Magnetodielectric study on double perovskite Pr2CoMnO6

We report an intriguing giant dielectric and magnetodielectric (MD) response on double perovskite Pr2CoMnO6(PCMO) system. The Arrhenius plot indicates that the origin of giant dielectric is internal barrier layer capacitance. Meanwhile, at the highest applied magnetic field 9T, the giant dielectric constant around Tm ~ 150 K is enhanced almost ~ 20% (at 10 kHz frequency) compared with that at zero field. The observed positive MD effect is considered to be associated with the direct consequence of negative magnetoresistance changes (~ -20% at 150 K) which was calculated by temperature dependent impedance spectras. Concomitantly, a pronounced ferromagnetic ordering is observed near Tc ~ 150 K coinciding with Tm of £`¡¬(T). These experimental results suggest that the magnetoresistive and MD effect response is very strongly by magnetic property of PCMO.

Analysis Treatment Efficiencies and Emergy Analysis of Constructed Wetlands¡ÐA Case Study of Kaoping River Old Railroad Bridge Constructed Wetland

Constructed wetlands have been widely accepted as a natural ecotechnology for wastewater treatment. Constructed wetland system is a treatment system, while it utilizes intertine relationship among water, plants, soils, microorganism and atmosphere in natural environment, and applies natural physics, chemistry and biochemical actions to remove pollutions natural. In addition, the constructed wetland can also to increase the areas to attract more wild animals as their habits. In this study, we analyzed quality of Koping River Old Railroad Bridge constructed wetlands to understand the remove efficiencies for different pollutions. The analytical results showed that A system of the constructed wetlands because some other sewage of A system flowed into the system. However, the treatment system were still better than those in B system. The average removal efficiencies of BOD5 ,COD ,NH3-N ,TP in A system equal to 81.93¢H,50.98¢H,74.89¢H,46,70¢H,respectively. However the average removal efficiencies of SS and Chlorophyll-a were increased for both A and B systems, which might because algae can grow vigorously in summer. Resulting in an increase for both Chlorophyll-a and SS. Besides, in autumn the litter effect of wetland plants might cause the concentrations of nutrients increased. In addition, in this study we also utilized emergy analysis to evaluate the economical values while comparing with a sewage treatment plant. The analytical results showed that the constructed wetlands could remove more pollutants than of the sewage treatment plant. However, the constructed wetland system could still increase the biodiversity. If they could reach steady treatment efficiencies under proper operation and maintenance. It is concluded that the constructed wetland system can provide advantages in both ecology and economics systems.

Fatigue behavior of alpha-zirconium phosphate/epoxy nanocomposites

Fatigue crack growth in ±-Zirconium phosphate/epoxy nanocomposites was investigated. A new fatigue testing technique was implemented for miniature samples. Two different methods “strength of materials and Rayleigh-Ritz - were used in determining the bending stress. The fatigue stress and fatigue life of different nanocomposite specimens were plotted in a traditional stress-life (S-N) curve. It was inferred from the S-N plot that the values obtained from both the methods compare well. The experimental results showed that fatigue life of filled epoxy nanocomposite is more than that of the unfilled epoxy composite. A model for bending stresses, ultimate strength and the number of cycles to failure was obtained to predict a component service life without conducting elaborate tests. Scanning electron examination of the fractured surfaces revealed that the crack takes a tortuous path during its propagation course, indicating crack blunting and crack deflection roles of ZrP and CSR nanofillers, which consequently improve the fracture resistance. In case of the M-ZrP-epoxy systems, delamination of ZrP platelets from surrounding epoxy matrix was proposed as the reason behind crack growth. The improved fracture resistance of these nanocomposites was attributed to the delamination of ZrP platelets and deflection of crack direction. The superior behavior of CSR-ZrP-epoxy composites was attributed to the cavitation process and void coalescence due to CSR particles delamination.

Design Issues in Nonregular and Follow-Up Split-Plot Designs

In industrial experimentation, time and material costs are often at a premium. In designing an experiment, one needs to balance the desire for sufficient experimental runs to provide adequate data analysis, with the need to conduct a cost-effective experiment. A common compromise is the use of fractional factorial (FF) designs, in which only a fraction of the total possible runs is utilized. After discussing the basic concepts of FF designs, we introduce the fractional factorial split-plot (FFSP) design. Such designs occur frequently, because certain factors are often harder to vary than others, thus imposing randomization restric- tions. This thesis examines two techniques aimed at reducing run size that have not been greatly explored in the FFSP setting — nonregular designs and semifoldover designs. We show that these designs offer competitive alternatives to the more standard regular and full foldover designs and we produce tables of optimal designs in both scenarios.

The Development of an Automated Method of Monitoring Surgeon Performance at an Academic Teaching Hospital

In this thesis, I chose to identify and evaluate different monitoring methods on surgeon specific outcomes in colorectal surgery. An initial literature search identified different methods that were applied to a cohort of colorectal patients operated on by general surgeons using an electronic hospital database. Surgeon specific complications were validated with a chart review. General surgeons at The Ottawa Hospital were surveyed on their opinions regarding monitoring outcomes. We can conclude that different methods may be needed as they are dependent heavily on specified target limits. With our derived cohort, we had adequate risk adjustment using a modified Escobar model for 30 day mortality and morbidity. These complications were derived from electronic algorithms and had excellent specificity and sensitivity. General surgeons at The Ottawa Hospital have different opinions regarding monitoring their outcomes and surgeon engagement is necessary to make monitoring fruitful for patients, public, hospital administration, and surgeons.

Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MPI) and Coronary Angiography (CA) are two methods that can be used in the investigation of ischemic heart disease. The purpose of this study is to compare medical answers from MPI and CA to find out if suspected coronary artery disease shown with MPI correlates with coronary artery morphology shown with CA, and which treatment is given based on Summed Difference Percent (SD%). The study population consists of 45 patients. The information has been retrieved retrospectively at Länssjukhuset Ryhov. Included patients had coronary heart disease accessible for percutan coronary intervention. Out of the total data sample the results show an occurring difference when it comes to medical answers from MPI and CA. The results show that most of the study participants with SD% <10 obtained solely drug treatment. Those with SD% >10 were given treatments not always according to guidelines. Elements that might have had an impact on the result is discussed. In conclusion, it appears that there is a difference in some medical answers which may be a caused of collateral circulation which causes the wrong coronary artery area to be determined as ischemic based on the MPI or because of a misinterpretation of an exam.

A partir da Teoria dos Cronotopos, concebida por Mikhail Bakhtin, esta tese busca mostrar os modos pelos quais a fusão de tempo/espaço determina o enredo e as posturas das personagens em sua interação com o Outro, na obra Os Senhores, de Gonçalo M. Tavares. Vivendo como indivíduos descentrados, segundo lógicas próprias, as personagens também apresentam problemas identitários e de relacionamento com a alteridade. Além disso, por meio da análise dos elementos composicionais dos discursos e do estudo dos protogêneros pretendemos estabelecer o sentido final da obra, conectando-a à realidade do homem contemporâneo. / From the ideas conveyed by Mikhail Bakhtins Theory of Chronotopes, we seek to demonstrate the ways through which the fusion of time/space determines both the plot and the characters postures in their interactions with the alterity, in the series Os Senhores, written by Gonçalo M. Tavares. The fact of living as off-centered individuals, with their peculiar forms of logic, also causes them to present identity and relationship problems with the Other. Besides, through the analysis of the elements which constitute their discourses, parallel to the study of the prototypes, we intend to establish the ultimate meaning of the contents in the stories, connecting them to the contemporary mans reality.
