O recorte temporal escolhido compreende os anos de 1822 e 1823, período de grande instabilidade social e política na Província da Bahia. O antilusitanismo, sentimento de aversão aos portugueses natos manifestados através de ideias, ações políticas e práticas cotidianas, influenciou na conformação política de Rio de Contas e configurou o “ser brasileiro” como elemento distintivo para os que estavam em luta pela “Santa Causa da Liberdade” contra a “tirania lusitana”. No decorrer dos acontecimentos, formas de identificação coletiva se estabeleceram através de um processo de oposição que colocou em lados contrários os atores políticos desta vila do sertão baiano. A construção destas identidades coletivas estava intrinsecamente ligada à desagregação do Império luso-brasileiro, não correspondendo necessariamente ao local de nascimento dos indivíduos envolvidos – se referindo principalmente às suas ações, seus projetos e, também, posicionamentos políticos adotados. / This dissertation studies the manifestations of anti-Lusitanism and the (re)construction of political identities occurred in the town of Rio de Contas in the process of political rupture between Brazil and Portugal. The chosen time frame covers the years 1822 and 1823, great social and political instability period in the Province of Bahia. The anti-Lusitanism, feeling of aversion to the Portuguese manifested through ideas, political actions and daily practices, influenced the political configuration of Rio de Contas and set up "being Brazilian" as a distinctive element for those who were fighting for "Holy Cause of Freedom" against "Lusitanian tyranny". In the course of events, forms of collective identification is established through a process that put him in opposition sides against political actors of this town of Bahia. The construction of these collective identities were inextricably linked to the breakdown of the Luso-Brazilian Empire, not necessarily corresponding to the birthplace of the individuals involved - mainly referring to their actions, their projects and also to the political positions adopted.

Ou, do contrário, ela teria sido uma escolha um tanto incerta, culminada ante um contexto muito específico do ano de 1822, já que mesmo nos anos seguintes à sua formalização sobravam hesitações quanto aos rumos do futuro do recente país? Diante desses imperativos, a presente dissertação pretende analisar os projetos e as identidades políticas formulados na Bahia desde a chegada da família real portuguesa em 1808 até o ano de 1824, durante as repercussões do fechamento da Assembleia Constituinte brasileira por ordem do Imperador D. Pedro I. Sobretudo, intento questionar se haveria um processo cumulativo de expectativas quanto à ruptura com o Império luso-brasileiro. The independence of Brazil would have been built step by step in Bahia, in a single and gradually trajectory since the transfer of the Portuguese Court to Brazil? Or, otherwise, it would have been a choice somewhat uncertain, culminating in a context very specific to the year 1822, because even in the years following its formalization there were many hesitations regarding the trends of the future of the recent country? In face of these imperatives, this thesis intend to analyze the poltical projects and identities formulated in Bahia since the arrival of the Portuguese royal family in 1808 until the year 1824, during the repercussions of the closing of the Constituent Assembly brazilian by order of the Emperor D. Pedro I. Above all, the intention is to question if there would be a cumulative process of expectations of the rupture with the Portuguese-brazilian Empire. / Salvador
