Ocupação polícroma no baixo e médio rio Solimões, estado do Amazonas. / Polycrhome Settlement in the Lower and Middle Solimões River; Amazonas State

Eduardo Kazuo Tamanaha 22 March 2012 (has links)
This dissertation presents archaeological data on site settlements with Guarita ceramics, located in the middle and lower Solimões river, in Amazonas state. The evidence for these settlements is often restricted to the sites\' surfaces, indicating that these were the last indigenous groups to settle in the region, staying until the XVI century AD. Based on the data collected in sites at Coari city and around the confluence of the Solimões and Negro rivers, the purpose of this research is to understand the strata\'s chronology, to undertake the ceramic analysis of materials from these strata, and to determine areas of dispersion and density of archaeological remains. It also examines the relationship between these and other excavated sites in the region. This research intends to propose a hypothesis for the history of how these late pottery making-groups have occupied the middle and lower Solimões river area, thus providing more data about the ceramics of the Amazonian Polychrome Tradition.

Potes que encantam: estilo e agência na cerâmica polícroma da Amazônia central / Enchanting Pots: style and agency in polychrome ceramics from the central Amazon

Erêndira Oliveira 02 June 2016 (has links)
This thesis focus is the variability of Guarita ceramics, a complex belonging to the Amazonian Polychrome Tradition, which begins around the year 1000 and lasted until the European conquest, spread throughout the central and upper Amazon. We chose to work with a very recurrent type of vessel in the Guarita ceramic complex, the vase with mesial flange, in order to apply a method which integrates technological and iconographic variables and define distinct elements and regional variations of the polychrome style. Based on the morphological variability and different iconographic languages, we were able to discuss the possible processes of transmission and reproduction of this style which could explain its regional spread and apparent homogeneity. This work benefits from a dialogue of concepts form Archaeology, Anthropology of Art and Ethnology, enabling us to understand these ceramic components as material expressions of an introduced and shared style among different regions in the Amazon, displaying messages related to specific Amerindian ontological systems, centered on the transformation body. Thus, the artifacts were analyzed as agents taking part in dynamic rituals for reenacting cosmological beliefs, within a broad cosmopolitical system. From these discussions we were able to broaden the debate on the expansion of the polychrome style of the pre-colonial societies of the Amazon, and enhance our understanding of the relation between these ancient aesthetic languages and societies that produced the ceramics.

A Tradição Polícroma no alto rio Madeira / The Polychrome Tradition in the Upper Madeira River

Almeida, Fernando Ozorio de 24 May 2013 (has links)
Based on contextualized interpretations, this thesis sought to make a contribution to the comprehension of the history (longue durée) of pottery-producing indigenous populations of the upper Madeira region, from the perspective of Historical Ecology. The comparison of five archaeological sites from this region (southwestern Amazonia) formed the basis for these interpretations. The comparative method was further used so as to make possible an extensive discussion about different archaeological Styles and Traditions in Amazonia. The final aim was to contribute to the historiographical knowledge of ancient speakers of languages of the Tupi stock, specially the Tupi-Guarani family, and to present stylistic and chronological data which would enable the rethinking of the so-called Polychrome Tradition of Amazonia.

Bertoni Cren, Nadia 15 January 2013 (has links)
For the first time, the corpus of Roman wood sculptures from Burgundy is gathered together in a catalogue, with added photographic documents and bibliography. The twenty-five sculptures are listed and studied from a stylistic, iconographic and technical point of view. In the XIIth century, an actual school of monastic wood sculpture seemed to develop within the boundaries of the duchy of Burgundy, bringing a great diversity as far as formal and technical contributions are concerned. The sculptures that are the most representative to help the understanding of those numerous contributions are thoroughly studied. Their stylistic relationships with manuscripts dating back from the Carolingian Renaissance, with the Ottonian sculpture and the contemporary monumental stone sculpture, are pointed out with the analysis of internal characteristics, setting apart different formal languages. The iconographic description shows the specific denotation used in the representation of the holy character. The technical processes of creation are compared through the direct examination of the sculptures and through the collection of usable information. For several pieces, a new dating was suggested; new sculptures and specific artists are brought to notice. The contributions of the wood sculpture from the Auvergne region are specified. The tradition of inserting relics into sculptures is put in relation to the relatively important influence it can have on the building of the shape. One chapter is dedicated to the methodology in the study of wood sculptures’ polychromes. The conservators-restorers play a crucial part in the act of scientifically collecting information attesting the evolution of artistic techniques. Some suggestions are put forward to improve the processes of examination and the collecting of information.

Náhrobní mříž v českých zemích v období raného novověku. Mříž a hrobový prostor 1550-1740 / Sepulchral Ironwork in Early Modern Bohemia. Ironwork and Sepulchral Environment between 1550-1740

Gandalovičová, Šárka January 2015 (has links)
The text deals with various types of ironwork from ca 1550-1740, which we can encounter in sepulchral spaces in Bohemia. The text includes notable examples of individual types of ironwork related to sepulchral monuments in Bohemia and even Central Europe, especially when the works were inspired by Bohemian examples. The main research subject matter of the dissertation is a typological group of ironwork that defined the space around a tombstone or mausoleum freely situated in a sacred environment, e.g. the most important cited work - the ironwork surrounding the Royal Mausoleum in Prague, or the ironwork surrounding the Cenotaph of Maxmilian I located in the Court Church of Innsbruck. Other types of ironwork related to sepulchral monuments are mentioned complementarily, such as ironwork closing off interior chapels, freely standing ironwork, and ironwork protecting sepulchral niches. Settlement History and Interaction in the Manialtepec Basin of Oaxaca's Central Coast

Menchaca, Victoria 01 January 2015 (has links)
As the focus of over 70 years* of archaeological research, Oaxaca, Mexico, is one of Mesoamerica*s best understood regions. Yet, despite the volume of work in Oaxaca, information about one of its key resource areas, the central Pacific coast, remains limited. Specifically, the ambiguous role of Oaxaca*s Central Coast in interregional relationships during pre-Hispanic times to the sites of Monte Alban and Tututepec has been a chronic problem and major source of debate for decades. The purpose of this thesis is to begin clarifying the role of Oaxaca*s Central Coast in interregional networks and its pre-Hispanic history. Analysis utilized surface observations, surface collections, and information from limited excavations performed by the Proyecto Arqueologico Laguna de Manialtepec (PALM) in the Manialtepec Basin, located on the Central Coast of Oaxaca. The data was then mapped using ArcGIS software to render settlement and artifact patterns. Based on the results of this project I suggest a history of settlement for this area. I also argue that the Basin contained three centers, maintained interregional interactions, and was invaded by the Mixtecs of highland Oaxaca during the Late Postclassic Period (A.D. 1200-1500).
