A Transition-to-Practice Residency That Supports the Nurse Practitioner in a Critical Access Hospital

Stock, Nancy Jean 01 January 2015 (has links)
Access to health care in rural communities is challenged by workforce shortages. Nurse practitioners (NPs) have been filling the gap created by physician migration into specialty areas. Flex hospital legislation allows critical access hospitals (CAHs) to staff the emergency department with NPs or physician assistants without on-site physicians. NP education often lacks emergency and trauma curriculum, resulting in gaps in education and practice expectations and leading to significant role transition stress and turnover. The purpose of this project was to construct an evidence-based transition-to-practice residency program to support NPs providing emergency department care in the CAH. Theoretical frameworks used to guide the project include rural health theory, novice to expert, and from limbo to legitimacy frameworks. Global outcomes include increased quality of care, patient safety, NP job satisfaction, and decreased turnover. The quality improvement initiative engaged an interprofessional team of institutional and community stakeholders (n = 10) to develop primary products including the residency program, curriculum modules, and the secondary products necessary to implement and evaluate the project. Implementation will consist of a pilot followed by expansion throughout the rural health network. Evaluation will involve the CAH dashboard to monitor patient outcomes, Misener NP job satisfaction scale, and employee turnover rates. The project expands understanding of the on-boarding needs of rural NPs. The results of this project will serve as a guide to publish outcome data and collaborate with higher education to develop programs to award academic credit for paid clinical experiences leading to academic degrees.

Análisis pedagógico del Plan de Formación Individual del Residente de Medicina Familiar y Comunitaria

Romero Sánchez, Baldomero Eduardo 03 February 2008 (has links)
The present study highlights the wide interaction existing between Medicine and Pedagogy. The former can satisfy the claim of Medicine regarding the need of pedagogical consultancy and educational training. The latter offers a new scenario of education in professional practice outside the scholastic context. For such purpose, it identifies and analyses, from a pedagogical point of view, the core components of the Postgraduate Education of the specialist training of Family Medice, regarding the following domains: methods of learning, structure, organization and teaching methodology.Firstly, it justifies and defines the problem of research in a particular speciality -Family Medice, a context -Murcia Region-, and to a formative moment -the beginning of medical house Residency (R1), which consists of 3 to 6 months rotation in the Primary Care Centre, according to the New Specialist Educational Program-.Secondly, aims are established and the working hypothesis for the study is formulated. The fundamental purpose of this research is to enquire into the Learning Individual Program that there is -or there should be- between the preceptor and the student who is doing the clinical practice during the first year of rotation (R1) in the Teaching Health Centres of Murcia Region.

L'adaptation des étudiants en programme d'échange interuniversitaire franco-taïwanais : pourquoi et comment envisager un programme préparatoire de FLE à leur intention / Adaptation of students in a French Taiwanese university exchange program : how and why consider a program oreparatory FLE for them

Lee, Hsin-I 30 May 2016 (has links)
We present here the results of a study dealing with Chinese-speaking students (Taiwanese) when attending a student exchange program with France. This study is part of the axis II of Adis-language section of the ICAR laboratory. It is based on the assumption that the student meets Taiwanese adjustment difficulties in both linguistic, cultural and methodological university. These difficulties reveal some deficiencies identified through the analysis of the primary needs of the public studied: analyzing the results and helping define the tracks of a preparatory program of French foreign language (FLE), improving the adaptation of these students to French advanced education. We worked on questionnaire surveys over two academic years and in two phases. These surveys were designed to identify student needs, essential preliminary step in the implementation process of any learning program to a target audience, process itself including three essential steps: identifying the main language, cultural, and methodological needs for postgraduate education ; formulating learning goals ; defining learning content. To address these needs, we have adopted an approach which is more heuristic than true experimental method. We offered target students an online survey prior to their departure to France and a second one after a few months living in France. Our work is based on the collected results, from which we have established tracks for a FLE program to prepare upstream Taiwanese students to come to live in France to pursue higher education studies before making prospects in their future further studies.

Cesta za uznáním: Důvody k migraci do Německa u budoucích absolventů pražských lékařských fakult / Road to Respect: Reason for Migration to Germany from the Perspective of Future Graduates of Prague Medical Faculties of Charles University

Sedláková, Klára January 2015 (has links)
This master thesis deals with the topic of migration of the fresh graduates from Czech Republic to Germany. By means of a qualitative research the decision and reasons to migrate are presented in this thesis like a natural strategy of reaction on decline of an actual situation of young doctors in the Czech health system. The research shows an important role of the non-financial motivating factors. The central topic of research became the social status, especially the prestige and related respect. The reasons for migration are introduced with the theoretical help of the Push and pull factors theory. The understanding of the strategy of decision to migrate as a natural process is related to the theory of Exit, voice and loyalty of Albert Hirschman. The research is based on a series of semi-structured interviews with participants who intend to migrate after the graduation. Since this thesis is focused on the perspective of the main actors of the phenomenon, the migrants, it introduces the diversity of their attitudes to the reasons for migration. The main finding is the importance of the role of respect in the particular everyday situations, which is reflected in the several of ascertained types of motivating factors to migrate. The research also discovered the particular meanings of the motivational...
