Wholebody and hand-arm vibration : quantifying the risk of exposure to human vibration at Rössing Uranium Ltd, Namibia

Burns, Fulencia Naomi January 2004 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Environmental Health))--Peninsula Technikon, Cape Town, 2004 / AIM &; OBJECTIVES: a) To quantify human vibration exposnres among the various similar occupational groups present on the mine, b) To determine the degree of vibration risk posed onto the mineworkers and c) To recommend and implement a sustainable human vibration management control progranune. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional descriptive study design was carried out on 135 mine workers employed in various similar occupational groups at Rossing Uranium mine, Namibia Data acquisition originated from a multi-stage proportionally stratified random sampling technique. An approved Human Vibration measuring instrument was utilized to measure Hand-arm and Wholebcdy vibration exposure levels [Aeq (m/s2 )] prevalent among the similar exposure groups. A structured questionnaire, developed specifically for the actual work environment enabled the collection of information such as work history, type of vibration exposure, exposure duration and vibration symptoms. Furthermore, group specific results [A(8)] were computed by means of the latest internationally accepted Health & Safety Executive Vibration calculators. In addition, statistical analyses were performed in order to establish the occupational groups that are at increased risk for the development of hand-arm and wholebody vibration induced health disorders.

Ergonomic Evaluation of Power Tool Use at Different Task and Tool Related Conditions Using a Mechanical Test Rig, Electromyography and Subjective Evaluations / Ergonomiutvärdering av monteringsverktyg för olika uppgifts- och verktygsrelaterade parameterar genom att använda en mekanisk testrigg, elektromyografi och subjektiva utvärderingsmetoder : Genom att använda en mekanisk testrigg, elektromyografi och subjektiva utvärderingsmetoder

Mazaheri, Ava January 2018 (has links)
Workers within production and assembly lines are often exposed to ergonomically unfavorable tasksand conditions. Reaction forces and reaction torques generated by industrial power tools may causenot only discomfort but also health issues and injury. The forceful tasks in combination with highlyrepetitive hand-arm motions and prolonged tool use paves the way for loss in workforce capacitywhich in turn can lead to great losses in productivity and product quality. An umbrella term for themany injuries and diseases that may arise from the use of such tools is Cumulative Trauma Disorders(CTD).This study aimed to investigate the ergonomic effect of power tool use for various tool and taskrelated conditions. The study required the setup of a test rig with a simulated handle of the tool. Theergonomic impact was assessed by measuring the torques associated with different tighteningstrategies, as well as measuring the angular displacement of the tool handle. By varying the jointstiffness and workplace orientation, the complexity of the task was varied and thus quantified.Measurements of muscle activity during each tightening procedure provided a quantification of thephysiological impact on the operator. By combining the measurements on the operator withsubjective assessment of perceived exertion and discomfort, a more holistic perspective on thetightening procedure was obtained. The results obtained from the study stressed the negative impact on the operator which the QuickStep tightening strategy on medium hard joints implies, regardless of workspace orientation. TheTurbo Tight and Tensor Pulse tightening strategies turned out to generate the lowest reactiontorques and handle deflections, regardless of joint stiffness and workspace orientation. The findingsfrom the muscle activity measurements in combination with the subjective evaluation methodsfurther confirmed the mildness of the Turbo Tight and Tensor Pulse strategies. Moreover, horizontalworkspace resulted in lower tool handle deflection compared to vertical workspace for all tighteningstrategies and joint stiffnesses.

Orientador: Stelamaris Rolla Bertoli / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Civil, Arquitetura e Urbanismo / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-05T23:46:28Z (GMT). In the acoustic phenomena there are three main variables: the source, the medium and the receptor. For the prevention of noise conditions in certain places, it is necessary to know a source characteristic that does not change with medium variations. This characteristic is the sound power radiated by the source. To consider this prevention, IBAMA and INMETRO started a program that labels the household appliances according to the noise level emitted by them. This program is called ¿Selo Ruído¿. There is a prevision to include the electric tools in this label program. The drill is one of these electric tools that will be included. To investigate the methods for determination of the sound power levels, this work proposes some tests of drills in several standarded methods. The methods used for the tests were the ones that use reverberation rooms (ISO 3743 ¿ Engineering Methods for Special Reverberations test Rooms and ISO 3741 ¿ Precision Methods for Special Reverberations test Rooms). These methods are referenced at the Brazilian standard NBR 13910:1997 ¿ Part 1 ¿ ¿Diretrizes de ensaios para a determinação de ruído acústico de aparelhos eletrodomésticos e similares¿. A qualification analysis of the methodologies applied was done, based on the tests results. An application of these items was done from each item of these methodologies in the test method proposed. The construction of the steps in the proposed method was made from the items qualified and applied to the ¿Selo Ruído¿ program / Mestrado / Edificações / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

The Market Entry Strategy of Transnational Corporations in Taiwan: The Case of the Electric Power Tool Industry

Huang, Pei Lun Unknown Date (has links)
This paper focuses primarily on two foreign manufacturers of power tools, and their choice of methods when entering Taiwan market via the used subsidiaries or agents. I compared their decision making process and their considerations of entry in Taiwan markets through in-depth interviews along with my previous first-hand experience in the industrial fields, data collection, industry analysis, and literature review. The results showed that whether these two companies choose to adopt the sales subsidiaries or to use agency, depends on the resources they have control over as well as the political, economic and cultural environmental factors of the targeted markets and countries. In theory, if a company's products are unique, one should consider to use the sales subsidiary to enter the market. On the other hand, if the enterprise's products are similar to those in the market, one can use agents to penetrate the market.

Design a ergonomie ruÄnho nad / Design and ergonomics of hand tools

Sovjk, Richard January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of the power tools ergonomics and also on the economic impact on a sick employee in the Czech Republic. It presents the results of the characteristics of hand tools in terms of their design, usage positions and handling. It introduces current legislation and ergonomic methods, including the newly designed visual tool AAL. The tool enables ergonomic analysis of positional rotation of the limbs, torso and neck, including the input of strength and muscle parameters. AAL is integrated into Excel software with the possibility of integrating data from Rhinoceros software and the Grasshopper module, which automatically generates data. The analysis is based on 3D scans of 144 power tools that are divided into 11 groups. It analyzes 13 typical diseases and their economic impacts. From an economic point of view, the costs per sick employee are almost 57% higher compared to a healthy employee. The author's design of the ergonomic part of the tool is also part of the thesis.
