Investigando a assimetria na transmissão dos preços dos combustíveis no Estado de São Paulo / Investigating the asymmetry in the transmission of fuel prices in the State of São Paulo

Roberta Rodrigues Salvini 29 August 2016 (has links)
This work aims to determine the existence of asymmetry in the transmission of fuel prices in the wholesale to retail in the State of Sao Paulo. Since the introduction of flex-fuel vehicles in the Brazilian market in 2003, the consumer can choose to fill up with regular gasoline or hydrated ethanol, and your choice is influenced by variations in the relative prices of these fuels, which highlights the importance of a study to understand the behavior of these prices. To this end, monthly average of prices of regular gasoline and hydrated ethanol in the levels of distribution and resale, for the State of Sao Paulo, for the period November 2002 to April 2015 were considered in conducting empirical analysis, which includes the estimation of Error Correction Models. The results indicate the presence of asymmetry in transmission of price of both fuels of wholesale for retail, however it is manifested in the short term only. Moreover, it appears in the fuel market the positive asymmetry, so that in the short term increases in wholesale prices rise more strongly consumer prices compared to decreases in consumer prices caused by negative shocks in distribution prices. Such asymmetry can come from a combination of consumer reactions to future fluctuations in prices and inventory management by the fuel stations.

Store managers’ perception of the new Walmart/Massmart price promotion strategy

Maponya, Kissinger Raditlou 01 September 2015 (has links)
M.Com. / Hi-Lo price promotions are engraved in the South African fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector where price cuts and pricing specials are used to draw consumer traffic into stores. Massmart, in particular, Game stores are known for price cuts in the way they promote hence the arrival of Walmart present a dilemma for Games stores because Walmart is known for its everyday low pricing strategy (EDLP) compared to Hi-Lo price promotions which are popular in Game stores...

The relevance and fairness of the JSE ALTX PRE-IPO share pricing methodologies

Magliolo, Jacques January 2012 (has links)
This three year indepth study was prompted after a decade of working as a corporate advisor for numerous stockbroking firms' corporate advisory and listing divisions. An overwhelming lack of discernible pricing methodology for IPOs on the JSE's Main Board and failed Venture Capital and Development Capital Markets was transferred to the new Alternative Exchange (AltX). This prompted lengthly discussions with former head of JSE's AltX Noah Greenhill. Such discussions are set out in this dissertation and relate to pricing methodologies and the lack of guidance or legislation as set out in the JSE's schedule 21 of Listing requirements. The focus of this dissertation is thus centred on whether the current adopted methodologies to establish a fair and reasonable pre-IPO share price is effective. To achieve this, global pricing methodologies were assessed within the framework of various valuation techniques used by South African Designated Advisors.

BIOPALIVA – PŘÍČINY A DŮSLEDKY ZAVEDENÍ / BIOFUELS - REASONS AND CONSEQUENCES OF ITS INTRODUCTION

Bogdanov, Igor January 2013 (has links)
The thesis aims to analyze the economic and environmental consequences of the regulation to mandatorily blend bio-components into the fuel and prove its inefficiency. The theoretical part summarizes in detail the reasons of introducing the regulation, including the legislative framework, and generational evolution of biofuels. The analytical part uses statistical analysis of time series and price and efficiency indices to evaluate the effectiveness of biofuels in relation to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The impact of the introduction of biofuels on the economy is specified through fuel prices. The impact on engines as well as food prices and social environment is also mentioned.

Price transmission and casuality analysis of cheese and pasteurised liquid milk in South Africa from 2000 to 2016

Ramoshaba, Tshegofatso January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (M. A. Agricultural Science (Agricultural Economics) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / The relationship between farm and retail prices provides insights into marketing efficiency, consumer and farmer welfare. In light of this, much focus has been given to price transmission studies. Thus, price transmission studies have become increasingly important in Sub Saharan Africa because of its nature of providing clear insights information into our markets. Despite its importance in markets, there are a few studies analysing the mechanism through which prices are determined and transmitted from farm gate to retail markets in dairy markets in South Africa. The aim of the study was to investigate and analyse the nature of price transmission mechanism of pasteurised liquid milk and cheese in South Africa. The specific objectives were to determine the correlation between the milk production and quantity of milk processed in South Africa. Furthermore, there was a need to determine the direction of causality between the farm gate, processor and retail prices of cheese and pasteurised liquid milk in South Africa. It was also necessary to determine whether the price transmission of pasteurised liquid milk and cheese was symmetric or asymmetric in South Africa. The study used secondary time series data that covered a sample size of 17 years (2000 -2016) of pasteurised liquid milk and cheese in South Africa. Pearson correlation coefficient, Granger causality test and Vector Error Correction Model were used for data analysis. Pearson correlation results revealed that milk produced is perfectly correlated with the quantity of milk processed and it was positive. The Granger causality tests revealed that there was a no causal relationship between farm gate and processor, retail and processor and also between farm gate and retail for cheese. However, signs of independent causal relationship from farm gate to retail prices were visible. It also suggested a bidirectional causal relationship between processor and farm gate prices and also between retail and processor prices of pasteurised liquid milk. On the other hand, a unidirectional causality was found from retail to farm gate prices. The VECM results for pasteurised liquid milk showed asymmetric price transmission implying that retailers and processors react quicker to price increases than to price decrease. ii It is recommended that more focus be placed on investment in emerging dairy farmers in order to increase production. This can be done through the input price subsidies, grants and education on modern technologies. The government should also implement the price monitoring cell in order to protect the consumers from unfair prices passed on by the retailers. / Services SETA and National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC)

The Relationship Between an Industry Average Beta Coefficient and Price Elasticity of Demand

Joslyn-Battaglia, Kari 12 1900 (has links)
The price elasticity of demand coefficient for a good or service is a measure of the sensitivity, or responsiveness, of the quantity demanded of a product to changes in the price of that product. The price elasticity of demand coefficients were generated for goods and services in nine different industries for the years 1972 to 1984. A simple linear demand function was employed, using the changes in the Consumer Price Index as a proxy for changes in price and Personal Consumption Expenditures, taken from the National Income and Product Accounts, as a proxy for quantity. Beta measures the sensitivity, or responsiveness, of a stock to the market. An industry average beta coefficient was generated for each of the nine industries over the time period, using the beta coefficients published by Value Line for firms which met certain criteria. In order to test the relationship between the price elasticity of demand and an industry average beta coefficient, a simple regression was performed using the beta coefficient as the dependent variable and the price elasticity of demand coefficient as the independent variable. The results broke down into 3 basic categories: those industries for which there seemed to be no relationship, those industries where there was a fairly strong probability that a relationship exists and the price elasticity of demand explains at least part of the variation in beta coefficients, and those industries where there was a very high probability that a relationship does exist and the variation in the price elasticity of demand coefficients substantially explained the variation in the industry average beta coefficients. The first category includes the food at home, tobacco, and shoe industries. The second category includes the men's clothing, the women's clothing, and the alcoholic beverages industries, and the third includes the automobile, airline, and fast-food restaurant industries.

Analýza faktorů ovlivňujících cenu nemovitostí / Analysis of Factors Affecting Real Estate Prices

Suk, Ondřej January 2019 (has links)
The objective of the thesis Analysis of factors affecting real estate prices is to analyze selected aspects that somehow affects the price of real estate. The aim is to compare the impact of these factors on the market price of the selected type of property. The first part of the thesis defines theoretical bases and terms that relate to the real estate market. Furthermore, there are described the subjects of the real estate market and factors that influence the market and real estate prices. The most frequently used methods of real estate valuation are also described in the theoretical part. The practical part deals with the analysis of selected factors that affect the market price of the property. The analysis compares the prices of apartments in the three regional cities of the Czech Republic and then examines the differences in the average prices of these apartments and the degree of influence of selected factors causing differences in the prices.

Tillbaka till framtiden? : Gengas som ett alternativ till höga priser på el, bensin och diesel

Algotson, Gabriella, Hy, Sandra January 2023 (has links)
The First and Second World Wars imposed major import restrictions on gasoline and diesel andSweden faced a potential crisis. The solution to the fuel shortage was producer gas, which isproduced by burning trees or coal in a low-oxygen environment. With today's continuously risinggasoline, diesel and electricity prices, Sweden faces a similar situation and new solutions tocompensate for the high prices are being sought. This bachelor thesis examines the potential for using producer gas as an alternative to power vehiclesand small houses to reduce the cost. The thesis looks at how producer gas can be used in threedifferent cases; in a taxi, light truck and a small house over a years time where the cost benefit iscalculated by determining how much wood is required based on how much energy is required in use.The results indicate that with current electricity prices, electricity is the cheaper option for poweringhouses. However, it can be seen that it can be economically advantageous to use producer gas instead of liquid fuel when the price of wood is cheap.

Exploring the Relationship Between HousingPrices and Stock Prices

AGUZ, JOSEF, MARKIEWICZ, OSSIAN January 2018 (has links)
This study investigates the long- and short-run relationship between stock- and housingprices in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden between 1987-2017 and 1995-2017 with data from OECD statistics. By using interest rate as a control variable and Johansen's Test for Cointegration, the results show a significant relationship for Finland during the period 1995-2017. The short-run analysis implies a credit effect, which is inline with previous studies. However, in Denmark, Norway and Sweden the analysis show no sign of cointegration. A possible explanation for the insignificant results could be the high degree of policy implementations and changes to market structures in the early 1990s, which theoretically could be controlled for by including additional control variables in the analysis.

Monetary Factors and the U.S. Retail Food Price Level

Pulford, Andrew L 01 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The following study assesses whether an economic relationship exists between the money supply (i.e. M2), interest rates, and the exchange rate and the retail food price level in the United States. Data for the M2 classification of the United States money supply, the Effective Federals Funds (interest) Rate, and the United States Trade Weighted Exchange Index: Major Currencies for the period from January 1974 through December 2007 are evaluated as they relate to the United States Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers: Food for the same period. The statistical analysis involves an examination of the autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation functions of each variable, a test for the presence of stationarity in each variable(Augmented Dickey-Fuller test), Johansen’s test for co-integrating equations of the variables considered, Granger’s test for causality, and finally an estimation of regression models of United States retail food prices as a function of the money supply, interest rates, and exchange rates. Results indicate that a statistically significant relationship exists among the variables tested. A causal relationship exists between the Federal Funds Rate and the money supply, the money supply and the retail level of food prices, and also between the exchange rate and the retail level of food prices. The implications of the results are assessed through the lens of agricultural producers and processors, investors, lenders, consumers, and monetary and agricultural policymakers. Keywords: retail food prices, money supply, Federal Funds Rate, exchange rate, augmented Dickey-Fuller, Johansen’s test for co-integration, Granger causality
