A Study of How Young Adults Leverage Multiple Profile Management Functionality in Managing their Online Reputation on Social Networking Sites

With privacy settings on social networking sites (SNS) perceived as complex and difficult to use and maintain, young adults can be left vulnerable to others accessing and using their personal information. Consequences of not regulating the boundaries their information on SNS include the ability for current and future employers to make career-impacting decisions based upon their online reputation that may include disqualifying them as job candidates. On SNS, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, young adults must decide on how to manage their online reputation by regulating boundaries to their own personal and professional information and identities. One known practice for the regulation of boundaries is the use of multiple profile management (MPM), where users of SNS create and use multiple accounts on a SNS and separate the social and professional identities that they disclose publicly and privately. The purpose of the study was to understand the lived experiences of young adults in how they regulate boundaries on SNS, through the use of MPM, as they manage their online reputation to different audiences. The practice was studied by applying interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) through interviewing young adults of 18-23 years of age, who use MPM on a SNS. Semi-structured interviews permitted participants to provide in-depth descriptions of their lived experiences. Eight themes were identified and described based on the analysis of the interviews that include: SNS use with online audiences, motivations for using MPM, the processes for the presentation of self, online search results, privacy settings, untagging SNS posts, self-editing and censorship, and new features. The themes describe the complexity and challenges that young adults face with regulating boundaries with their professional and social identities online through the use of MPM. Findings from this study have implications for a variety of audiences. Through the findings of this study, SNS developers can introduce new features, improve usability related to privacy management, and further encourage use of their networks. Users of SNS can use this study to understand risks of using SNS and for learning of practices for how to manage their online reputation on SNS.

Os profissionais de administração: entre as competências desenvolvidas nos cursos de graduação e as competências requeridas pelo mundo do trabalho / Business Professionals: between the competences developed in the undergraduate courses and the competences required for the world of work

A presente pesquisa buscou \'investigar a interação das competências desenvolvidas pelos cursos de administração em seus estudantes e a demanda do mercado de trabalho\'. Para alcançar este objetivo geral, foram estabelecidos os seguintes objetivos específicos: analisar os fatores que influenciam no desenvolvimento das competências dos estudantes nos cursos de administração; determinar quais competências os formandos de administração acreditam possuir; reconhecer o grau de cada competência que os estudantes acreditam que foram desenvolvidas durante a graduação de administração; reconhecer quais competências os programas de trainee exigem dos candidatos em seus processos seletivos; verificar quais as principais diferenças, em termos de competências, dos administradores e das demais formações universitárias que competem para uma mesma vaga nos programas de trainee; e comparar as competências exigidas pelas empresas que possuem programa de trainee com as competências que os formandos acreditam possuir. Para a condução da pesquisa, adotou-se a abordagem quali-quanti. Na abordagem quantitativa ocorreu a realização de survey com 377 estudantes formandos de cursos de administração de excelência e 25 empresas detentoras de programas de trainee, por meio de aplicação de questionários, analisados por meio do software SPSS. Já na abordagem qualitativa, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com 10 coordenadores de cursos de administração de excelência e analisadas as questões abertas presentes nos questionários dos estudantes e das empresas. As entrevistas foram gravadas e o conteúdo das falas foi transcrito na íntegra e submetido à análise temático-categorial proposta por Bardin. As categorias foram transformadas em variáveis e processadas pelo software NVivo10 ®. Os fatores que os coordenadores consideram importantes no desenvolvimento destas competências são: ética, empreendedorismo, características do curso, projeto pedagógico, currículo, competência, carreira, expectativa do mercado, perfil, teoria e prática, estágio, intercâmbio, interdisciplinaridade, professores, estudantes, importância dos coordenadores e autonomia dos estudantes. Em linhas gerais, os estudantes se auto avaliaram bem em todas as competências e foram identificados 3 clusters. Dentre as competências que as empresas relataram que os administradores se destacam está a visão sistêmica e houve consenso em três competências exigidas nos processos seletivos: \'possuir iniciativa\', \'trabalhar em equipe\' e \'construir relacionamento e colaboração\'. As empresas constituíram 3 clusters distintos, com exigências diferentes de competências para ingresso em seus programas de trainee. Competências identificadas na literatura como fundamentais ao administrador figuraram entre as menos valorizadas pelas empresas, como \'pensamento crítico\' e \'criatividade\', apontando que as competências que as empresas exigem devem ser estudadas, porém não devem, apenas elas, orientar a elaboração e consecução dos PPP\'s nos cursos de administração. / The present work sought to \"investigate the interaction between the competences developed in the students by the administration courses and the need of the market\". To reach this general objective, the following specific objectives have been established: to analyze the factors that influence the competence development in business administration students; to determine which of the competences the under-graduated administration students believe to have; to recognize the level of development of each competence the students believe to achieve during the graduation; to recognize which competences the trainee programs demand form their applicants in the selection processes; to verify, in terms of competences, the main differences between undergraduated students of administration and other majors that compete for the same job opening in the trainee programs; and to compare the competences demanded by the companies that have trainee programs and the competences the administration undergraduated students believe to have. To conduct this research, it was adopted the qualiquanti approach. In the quantitative approach, a survey was realized, through questionnaire application, with 377 under-graduating students from first class administration colleges and 25 companies that have a trainee program. In the qualitative approach, 10 first class administration colleges\' coordinators have been interviewed, and the open questions from the students and companies\' questionnaires have been analyzed. The interviews were recorded and the content was transcript and submitted to the thematic-categorical analysis proposed by Bardin. The categories were transformed into variables and processed by the software NVivo10TM. The factors that the coordinators consider important in the development of the competences are: ethics, entrepreneurship, courses characteristics, pedagogic project, curriculum, competence, career, market expectation, profile, theory and practice, internship, exchange studies, interdisciplinary, professors, students, coordinators importance and students autonomy.In general, the students self-evaluated themselves well in all competences and 3 clusters have been identified. Among the competences that the companies consider that the administrators have an outstanding performance, is systemic view. In the selection processes there were 3 competences that were consensus: \'to have initiative\', \'teamwork\' and \'to build relationship and collaboration\'. The companies were grouped in 3 different clusters, demanding different competences to their trainee program. Some competences that are listed in the literature as fundamental to the administrator, such as \'critical thinking\' and \'creativity\', were among the least valuable to the companies, suggesting that the competences that companies demand should be developed, but they should not be the only to guide the administration courses.

A new framework for structuring and deploying advanced personalized and ubiquitous healthcare services / Σχεδίαση πλατφόρμας δημιουργίας και παροχής διάχυτων και εξατομικευμένων υπηρεσιών ιατρικής φροντίδας

This dissertation focuses on the design of personalized and ubiquitous healthcare (PUH) services in the medical sector. It is proposed a new framework for structuring and deploying advanced PUH services in the right place, time and manner. According to this PUH framework, diverse types of entities (subjects and objects) are involved during the execution of each service. Each type of subject (e.g. patient, caregiver (doctor or nurse), volunteer, patient’s friend or relative, etc) or object (medical unit, medical files manager, etc) performs predefined actions according to the patient’s current health status and an agreed plan of actions. In the provision of PUH services, the permissible actions of each entity (or a group of entities) are determined by the “entity’s profile”, which is created in advance for this purpose. This work considers also the “group profile” that determines the behavior and the attributes of a specific group of entities. The PUH framework provides also mechanisms for the management of the patient’s context (environmental, living, etc) and the content of subject’s profile. Different profiling mechanisms are activated according to the subject’s type. Structurally, the proposed framework is an expansion of the framework that is utilized by the Next Generation Networks (NGN) (known as OSA/Parlay architecture) for the reliable provision of multipoint – multimedia communication services. The PUH framework distinguishes four classes of mechanisms: a) the conventional ETSI/Parlay mechanisms handling the communication among the entities that are involved during the execution of a PUH service, b) the mechanisms handling the acquisition of bio and contextual data by sensor networks deployed around the patient (e.g. Body Area Network), c) the mechanisms for the management of profiles data (e.g. availability, preferences, capabilities, care giving role, activities) and d) the security mechanisms. For the representation of these classes of mechanisms, an appropriate ontology has been created. Based on the above PUH framework, an entire profile management system is proposed. This system uses data from patient/caregivers profiles (or group profiles) in order to deploy a PUH service that will be able to support multi-party group-working schemes with well defined behaviors of all involved entities, devices and services. The technology of smart cards has selected as the appropriate technology for creating, accessing and enriching the subjects profiles. A prototype of the proposed profile management system is implemented using the cloud computing technology (Windows Azure platform). We have considered that parts of a profile are located in different service providers. The efficiency of the developed profile management system is evaluated in terms of time response in order to select the appropriate healthcare provider by simulating system's response to real world scenarios. / Η παρούσα διατριβή εστιάζεται στο σχεδιασμό εξατομικευμένων (personalized) και διάχυτων / πανταχού παρουσών (ubiquitous) υπηρεσιών τηλεϊατρικής κατάλληλων για την υγειονομική περίθαλψη χρόνια πασχόντων ασθενών (Personalized and Ubiquitous Healthcare - PUH). Προτείνεται ένα νέο πλαίσιο δημιουργίας προηγμένων υπηρεσιών PUH και παροχή των υπηρεσιών αυτών στο σωστό τόπο και χρόνο, σύμφωνα με το «προφίλ» του ασθενή. Το προφίλ αυτό περιγράφει τις δυνατές καταστάσεις όπου μπορεί να βρεθεί η υγεία του (κανονική, σε κίνδυνο, κλπ), τον τύπο υπηρεσίας PUH που θα πρέπει να λάβει ανά κατάσταση, το περιβάλλον διαβίωσής του, τις προτιμήσεις του, κλπ. Το πλαίσιο PUH επιτρέπει σε διαφορετικούς τύπους υποκειμένων (π.χ. ασθενής, πάροχος φροντίδας (γιατρός ή νοσοκόμα), εθελοντής, φίλος του ασθενή ή συγγενής, κ.λπ.) και αντικειμένων (ιατρική μονάδα, διαχειριστής ιατρικών αρχείων, κ.λ.π.) να εμπλέκονται ενεργά κατά τη διάρκεια της εκτέλεσης κάθε υπηρεσίας προσφέροντας ειδικού τύπου υπηρεσίες. Η ταυτότητα και η συμπεριφορά του κάθε υποκειμένου και αντικειμένου περιγράφεται από ένα ατομικό «προφίλ οντότητας» μέσα στο οποίο καθορίζονται: α) τα είδη των υπηρεσιών που υποστηρίζει η οντότητα ανάλογα με την κατάσταση της υγείας του ασθενή και β) οι τύποι των ενεργειών που επιτρέπεται να εκτελεί η οντότητα ανά υπηρεσία. Στη διατριβή μοντελοποιείται επίσης το «προφίλ ομάδας» που καθορίζει συνολικά τη συμπεριφορά μιας συγκεκριμένης ομάδας οντοτήτων που εμπλέκεται στην παροχή της υπηρεσίας PUH. Το πλαίσιο PUH παρέχει επίσης μηχανισμούς διαχείρισης του περιεχομένου του προφίλ του ασθενή και του κάθε εμπλεκόμενου υποκειμένου ανά υπηρεσία PUH. Διαφορετικοί μηχανισμοί προφίλ ενεργοποιούνται ανάλογα με τον τύπο του υποκειμένου. Δομικά το προτεινόμενο πλαίσιο είναι μια επέκταση του πλαισίου OSA Parlay που χρησιμοποιείται από τα δίκτυα επόμενης γενεάς (NGN) για την αξιόπιστη παροχή πολυσημειακών / πολυμεσικών υπηρεσιών επικοινωνίας. Το πλαίσιο PUH διακρίνει τέσσερις κατηγορίες μηχανισμών: α) τους συμβατικούς μηχανισμούς ETSI/ Parlay που χειρίζονται την επικοινωνία μεταξύ των οντοτήτων που λαβαίνουν μέρος κατά τη διάρκεια της εκτέλεσης μιας υπηρεσίας PUH, β) τους μηχανισμούς που χειρίζονται την απόκτηση βιοσημάτων και στοιχείων του περιβάλλοντος του ασθενή από δίκτυα αισθητήρων που εκτείνονται γύρω από τον ασθενή (π.χ. δίκτυο περιοχής σώματος), γ) τους μηχανισμούς διαχείρισης των στοιχείων των προφίλ (π.χ. διαθεσιμότητα, προτιμήσεις, ικανότητες, ρόλος, δραστηριότητες) και δ) τους μηχανισμούς ασφάλειας. Για την αναπαράσταση αυτών των κατηγοριών μηχανισμών, έχει δημιουργηθεί μια κατάλληλη οντολογία. Με βάση το ανωτέρω πλαίσιο PUH, προτείνεται ένα ολόκληρο σύστημα διαχείρισης των προφίλ. Το σύστημα αυτό χρησιμοποιεί στοιχεία από τα προφίλ των ασθενών και των παρόχων φροντίδας (ή το προφίλ της ομάδας) προκειμένου να δημιουργηθεί μια υπηρεσία PUH που να είναι σε θέση να υποστηρίξει σχήματα πολλαπλών ομάδων εργασίας, με καλά καθορισμένες συμπεριφορές όλων των εμπλεκόμενων οντοτήτων, συσκευών και υπηρεσιών. Η τεχνολογία των έξυπνων καρτών έχει επιλεγεί ως η κατάλληλη τεχνολογία για τη δημιουργία, πρόσβαση και ενημέρωση των εμπλεκομένων προφίλ. Τέλος, έχει αναπτυχθεί ένα πρωτότυπο του προτεινόμενου συστήματος διαχείρισης των προφίλ με χρήση της τεχνολογίας του υπολογιστικού σύννεφου (cloud computing) – Windows Azure platform. Έχουμε θεωρήσει ότι τα τμήματα ενός προφίλ βρίσκονται σε διαφορετικούς παρόχους υπηρεσιών. Η αποδοτικότητα του αναπτυγμένου συστήματος διαχείρισης προφίλ αξιολογείται σε σχέση με τη χρονική απόκριση προκειμένου να επιλεγεί ο αρμόδιος πάροχος υγειονομικής περίθαλψης προσομοιώνοντας τη λειτουργία και απόκριση του συστήματος σε πραγματικά σενάρια.

Roaming User Profiles : En undersökning av olika versioner och dess kompatibilitet

<p>När Windows Vista introducerades förändrades mappstrukturen för hur användarprofilen sparas jämfört med tidigare Windowsversioner såsom Windows XP. Denna rapport undersöker kompatibilitetsproblem med Roaming User Profiles mellan äldre och nyare versioner av operativsystemet. Syftet med rapporten var att utreda vilka problem som kan uppstå, vad det gäller Roaming User Profiles, vid en övergång från Windows XP till Windows Vista eller 7. Undersökningen genomfördes med hjälp av laborationer, litteratur och tester för att hitta problemen såväl som lösningar till dem. Resultatet visar att profiler skapade med Windows XP inte följer med till Windows Vista eller 7 utan det skapas sammanlagt två olika profiler, en för det äldre och en för det nyare operativsystemet. Ett skript som kopierar en användares filer från Windows XP till Vista/7 utformades därför. Slutligen presenterades en handlingsplan med olika alternativ vid en övergång från Windows XP till den nyare generationen av operativsystemen i Windowsfamiljen. Folder Redirection är en väl fungerande lösning dock går funktionaliteten som Roaming User Profiles erbjuder förlorad eftersom man endast får en uppmappning av bl.a. ”Mina Dokument” och ”Start Menu”.</p>

Um Modelo para Gerenciamento de Perfis de Entidades Através de Inferência em Trilhas

Isto permite que as aplicações adaptem-se às entidades, evitando assim uma sobrecarga de questionamentos e informações à entidade. Este trabalho apresenta o eProfile, um modelo que permite que aplicações registrem as ações de entidades em trilhas e infiram informações de perfil a partir destas trilhas, utilizando interoperabilidade semântica e assim permitindo que diferentes aplicações compartilhem informações em um perfil unificado. Foi desenvolvido um protótipo para a avaliação do modelo, o qual foi integrado com dois diferentes softwares. Foi verificado que é possível enriquecer a geração de perfis de aplicações através da integração com o modelo. As contribuições deste modelo são o uso de trilhas para extrair perfis, a geração de perfis dinâmicos, o gerenciamento de regras de inferência e modelos de entidades dinâmicos e a interoperabilidade semântica do modelo. / Context-aware and ubiquitous systems have the challenge of implicitly collect relevant information about entities, and use this information to understand and predict their behaviour. This allows the applications to adapt themselves to the entities, thus avoiding to overflow them with inquires and information. The analysis of trails, the context-aware history of actions, can further improve the relevance of information. This dissertation proposes a model that allows applications to register entites’ actions in trails and infer profile information from these trails, using semantic interoperability and thus allowing different applications to share information and infer a unified profile. A prototype was developed for the evaluation of the model, and it was integrated with two different softwares. It was verified that was possible to enrich the profile generation of applications through the integration with the modelo. The contributions of this model are the use of trails for extracting profiles, the generation of dynamic profiles, the capability of managing dynamic inference rules for profile generation and the semantic interoperabilty of the model.
