Mentorskap i traineeprogram – Karaktärsdrag som påverkas hos mentorn och adeptenEdentoft, Oscar, Nilsson, Nicklas January 2008 (has links)

With an attractive trainee program company’s today hope to attract young devoted people. In the frame of a trainee program, there has been a special focus on a formal mentorship in an effort to develop characteristics with the mentor and protégé. Therefore this study discusses the subject mentorship in trainee programs.

Which characteristics are affected with the mentor and protégé during a mentor relationship in a trainee program?

The aim of the study is to create an awareness and knowledge of the mentor and the protégés understanding of which characteristics are affected in a mentorship relation after a completed trainee program. The study’s theoretical frame of reference was built around four main points; trainee program, mentorship, mentor relationship and which characteristics that are affected with mentors and protégés. In order to find out which characteristics that are affected with mentors and protégés in a mentor relationship, we have chosen to do a qualitative survey research with a deductive approach. The empirical data has been collected, using open individual interviews. The conclusion made is that a mentor relationship does not affect mentors especially much, except the mentor’s emotional stability and their ability to reflect. All the protégés characteristics on the other hand are affected during a mentor relationship in a trainee program. During this study we have concluded several interesting factors that may lead to proceeding research, for example testing the generalization of the theoretical model. Another approach is to apply the model in other contexts, for example in other leadership contexts or quality contexts.

Improving the Usability of ProtégéPlug-In for Artifact Management using Taxonomic Pathschenreddy, pradeep reddy January 2009 (has links)

The goal of this thesis is to improve Usability and functionality of a tool for artifact management, which applies taxonomic paths for categorizing artifacts. The main issues of using the taxonomic paths are used for categorization and should improve the precision when retrieving documents. The results show the improvements in functionality and usability of the artifact manager. This thesis explains about Usability, re-engineering, and necessary infrastructure to improve the performance of the artifact manager tool.At the end of the thesis necessary modifications has been done to improve usability and functionality of artifact manager

MENTORING MATTERS: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL SUPPORT AND RELATIONAL MAINTENANCE STRATEGIES ON CRITICAL OUTCOMES IN DOCTORAL EDUCATIONCavendish, Sarah Elizabeth 01 January 2007 (has links)
Utilizing social support as the theoretical foundation for this research, the study proposes and tests the Mentoring Relational Process Model (MRPM). The influence of support sought, relational maintenance strategies, and support obtained on the critical graduate outcomes of relational satisfaction, research self-efficacy, perceived time-todegree, and relational quality is examined. Data collected from 310 doctoral students through an online survey is used to test the MRPM. Over 50% of the variance in relational satisfaction and relational quality, respectively, is predicted by the MRPM. Research selfefficacy and perceived time-to-degree were not well-predicted by the current data.

Effects of Faculty and Peer Mentoring on Perceived Stress and Social Support of College Student AthletesPfister, Valerie R 17 March 2004 (has links)
Mentoring programs often focus on assisting students with the transition to college life and encouraging academic success. This study consisted of a quantitative examination of faculty and peer mentoring and freshmen student athletes' perceived transitional stress and social support. Surveys that provided a numerical value to perceived stress and social support supplied a basis for comparison. In addition, a qualitative element, consisting of personal interviews, was used to assess the quality of the mentoring relationships that developed.
Volunteer mentors were trained on mentoring strategies by the researcher. Sixty-one student-athlete volunteers from the sports of baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, competitive dance, football, golf, rowing, soccer, track and field, and volleyball were divided into two groups with similar high school grade point averages. Thirty-one of these student athletes were then randomly assigned to peer mentors and 30 were assigned to faculty mentors. Stress and social support were measured three times during a 16-week semester and the data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance.
No significant differences were found in the perceived stress levels of student athletes mentored by faculty versus peers. However, stress levels were found to significantly increase between the beginning and the end of the semester. Regarding social support derived from friends, no significant difference was found in the perceived level of social support received from friends. However, students mentored by faculty perceived significantly more social support from their mentor than that perceived in the peer-mentored group. No effects for race or gender were found with either perceived stress or social support levels.
This research suggests the need to investigate specific stress sources and what assistance may be provided through mentoring. Academic advisors may wish to consider alternative ways to assuage the stresses experienced by first-semester student athletes, such as reduced course loads or reduced athletic demands.
The results of this study provide additional insights regarding mentoring and its effects on perceived levels of stress and social support. In addition, this research provides the building blocks for a mentoring program to assist student athletes transitioning to college.

Background annotation of entities in Linked Data vocabularies / Background annotation entit v Linked Data slovníkůSerra, Simone January 2012 (has links)
One the key feature behind Linked Data is the use of vocabularies that allow datasets to share a common language to describe similar concepts and relationships and resolve ambiguities between them. The development of vocabularies is often driven by a consensus process among datasets implementers, in which the criterion of interoperability is considered to be sufficient. This can lead to misrepresentation of real-world entities in Linked Data vocabularies entities. Such drawbacks can be fixed by the use of a formal methodology for modelling Linked Data vocabularies entities and identifying ontological distinctions. One proven example is the OntoClean methodology for curing taxonomies. In this work, it is presented a software tool that implements the PURO approach to ontological distinction modelling. PURO models vocabularies as Ontological Foreground Models (OFM), and the structure of ontological distinctions as Ontological Background Models (OBM), constructed using meta-properties attached to vocabulary entities, in a process known as vocabulary annotation. The software tool, named Background Annotation plugin, written in Java and integrated in the Protégé ontology editor, enables a user to graphically annotate vocabulary entities through an annotation workflow, that implements, among other things, persistency of annotations and their retrieval. Two kinds of workflows are supported: generic and dataset-specific, in order to differentiate a vocabulary usage, in terms of a PURO OBM, with respect to a given Linked Data dataset. The workflow is enhanced by the use of dataset statistical indicators retrieved through the Sindice service, for a sample of chosen datasets, such as the number of entities present in a dataset, and the relative frequency of vocabulary entities in that dataset. A further enhancement is provided by dataset summaries that offer an overview of the most common entity-property paths found in a dataset. Foreseen utilisation of the Background Annotation plugin include: 1) the checking of mapping agreement between different datasets, as produced by the R2R framework and 2) annotation of dependent resources in Concise Boundaries Descriptions of entities, used in data sampling from Linked Data datasets for data mining purposes.

Revisão de crenças em lógicas de descrição - um plug-in para o Protégé / Belif revision in description logics - a Plug-in for ProtégéResina, Fillipe Manoel Xavier 07 April 2014 (has links)
Description Logics are the basis for OWL language, which is the standard to represent ontologies on the web.
