Strategic PSYOP management a marketing management approach / Strategic Psychological Operations management

Sokoloski, Joseph A. 03 1900 (has links)
United States Military Psychological Operations are engaged in a type of mass marketing of ideas. To accomplish this The United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (USACAPOC) employs active and reserve PSYOP units to conduct PSYOP campaigns. However the methodology used to manage these campaigns often hinders the effective employment of timely and effective Psychological Operations. PSYOP has a difficult job to accomplish but PSYOP does not have the proper management tools and their national stakeholders do not understand the process. The opportunity derived from this study is to adapt principles of civilian marketing management to provide a framework and tools to develop PSYOP campaign management into a more efficient, target audience based mechanism.

Automated psychological categorization via linguistic processing system

Sutter, Christopher M., Eramo, Mark D. 09 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / Influencing one's adversary has always been an objective in warfare. However, to date the majority of influence operations have been geared toward the masses or to very small numbers of individuals. Although marginally effective, this approach is inadequate with respect to larger numbers of high value targets and to specific subsets of the population. Limited human resources have prevented a more tailored approach, which would focus on segmentation, because individual targeting demands significant time from psychological analysts. This research examined whether or not Information Technology (IT) tools, specializing in text mining, are robust enough to automate the categorization/segmentation of individual profiles for the purpose of psychological operations (PSYOP). Research indicated that only a handful of software applications claimed to provide adequate functionality to perform these tasks. Text mining via neural networks was determined to be the best approach given the constraints of the profile data and the desired output. Five software applications were tested and evaluated for their ability to reproduce the results of a social psychologist. Through statistical analysis, it was concluded that the tested applications are not currently mature enough to produce accurate results that would enable automated segmentation of individual profiles based on supervised linguistic processing. / Captain, United States Marine Corps / Lieutenant, United States Navy

Conquering Taiwan by Mind-PRC Taiwan's Psychology of Political Communication

Tsai, Tzung-je 13 August 2007 (has links)
This research systemizes PRC¡¦s Taiwan policy in the perspective of psychology of political communication. First of all, this research is found that there are four features in psychological warfare conducted by PRC after reviewing the Western, ancient Chinese, and Chinese military classics: justice warfare, army controlled by the politics, the people warfare, and influx on strategies. The basic levels in mutual fight can be analyzed as following: conducting and controlling relationship, civil-martial relationship, state-society relationship, and foreign relationship. The rival may ¡§disturb¡¨ the relationships by three psychological principles of political communication: the attachment principle, the inducement principle, and the coercion principle. After deciding the principle, there are four kinds of ¡§tools¡¨ available; including Taiwan affairs, mass communication, information based psychological warfare, and military threat. Most important, PRC use the tools in a flexible way. The psychology of political communication in PRC¡¦s Tawian policy is successful by adopting two stable principles: Emancipation/ Unity/ Anti-independency Principle; One China/ One Country Two Systems Principle. The bottom line of principle can be shifting, but never quit. From the perspective of psychology of political communication, this Taiwan policy can be focused on the source and the content of information, and the effect of receivers. This model can be concluded as ¡§organism¡¨, there are holism, correlation, multilevel, openness, and dynamics in this model.

Israel’s usage of Psychological Warfare against Hezbollah : Theoretical Development and Application

Lindqvist, Felicia January 2020 (has links)
The purpose is to analyze and describe Israel's psychological warfare facing Hezbollah in the years between 2017-2019. The question at issue is: How has Israel used Psychological Warfare against Hezbollah between 2017-2019? This is revised through a theory development using the work of Martin C. Libicki (1995), Ron Schleifer (2009), Paul Linebarger (2015), and Irwin J. Mansdorf (2015), along with the use of the previous historical practice of psychological warfare by Israel. The material is acquired from Israel's different types of social media platforms along with key articles on the subject. This aiming to determine the psychological warfare done by Israel. The theoretical development does create valuable and at most necessary aspects of psychological warfare that would if unnoticed give an insufficient analysis and description of the psychological warfare for this case. The research uses theory application to generate the conclusion and to describe the PSYOP. The result of this work shows the extensive use of psychological warfare by Israel. Between the years of 2017-2019, a massive social media presence from Israel is noted and one can locate a psychological warfare message in nearly everything. Israel put in great effort to influence Hezbollah and the fight for media coverage and news influence is the big focus for Israel.
