Adoção por homossexuais : concepções de psicólogos judiciários /

Farias, Mariana de Oliveira. January 2007 (has links)
Some negative aspects, such as erroneous beliefs that homosexuals to sexually abuse children or that the parents' sexual orientation would determine the children's, influence people's opinion. In Brazil, the evaluation of adoption by homosexuals, whether favorable or not, is still a recent discussion regarding the judicial psychology field. Psychology formation doesn't seem to emphasize neither sexuality nor homosexuality, and there is little literature which fights myths and misunderstandings about children's development when raised by homosexual people or partners. Hence, this descriptive study investigated judicial psychologists' conception face the adoption situation when the adopter has clearly assumed a homosexual orientation. Eleven judicial psycholgists working in courts in two paulista interior cities answered and interview. The psychologists' reports were recorded, fully transcribed for content analysis, and distributed among thematic gorups: procedures and criteria for psychological evaluation in both general and homosexual cases; conceptins of homosexuality, its determination and homosexual people; opinion on adoption by homosexuals and the development of people raised by homosexual fathers and/or mothers; testimonials of psychologists who have already followed processes of adoption by homosexuals; aspects of the academic and continous formation which influence the evaluation of adoption cases. In conclusion, psychologists, in general, show some imprecision in their professional performance concerning processes of adoption by homosexuals, revealing contradictions, stereotypes and personal bias regarding... / This survey focuses the moral competence in the psychologist traffic formation, and it has like a goal to evaluate the efficiency of an intervention to the psychologists moral competence development that participate of the two specialization courses in Traffic Psychology.. A new modality of treatment to address the problem of drug abuse and its psychosocial consequences refors to a proposal for Harm Reduction (PRD). Still unknown to many and controversy between the experts, this proposal represents a new focus on vulnerable population and seeks to ensure public health, through actions that attempt to reduce damage caused by the consumption of licit and ilicit drugs and sexual practices risk for HIV/AIDS, with clarification and guidance rather than prohibition and punishment. The implementation of this proposal by psychologists for people who find themselves in a vulnerable situation by the exercise of risk practices and their relatives is still little research. This study aimed to investigate the option of psychologists, are those working in private practices or in a Psychosocial Care Center on the proposal of Harm Reduction and its relation to the themes of sexuality and vulnerability, through interviews and content analysis themes: the concept of harm reduction, assessment of the proposed harm reduction, the articulation of harm reduction with sexuality and the implication of harm reduction in their profissional appearances. The data revealed the lack or information regarding the issue of harm reduction policy in the two groups of psychologists and how their actions are still incipient in the spaces to promote public health. Expected to contribute to the classification and necessary debate among psychologists who work with health providers to care for this population ultimately benefiting the full human development

The 16PF as a screening device for clinical psychology candidates

De Raay, Lorraine Barbara 11 March 2014 (has links)
M.A. (Clinical, Psychology) / The aim of this study was to develop a selection model for students who are to be trained as Clinical Psychologists at the Masters degree level. Since selection criteria are both subjective and objective and the procedure itself time consuming, the model would have to incorporate these aspects and also save time. For these reasons the possibility of utilizing a single assessment instrument, the 16PF, was investigated. The experimental design compared two methods of selection. These were (i) the traditional method involving interpersonal contact between selectors and candidates and (ii) a statistical method involving the 16PF. were tested. Three hypotheses i That the 16PF would discriminate significantly between selected and selected students. ii That a pattern of objective criteria would emerge. iii That some subjective criteria would be identified. All three hypotheses were subsequently confirmed. Recommendations for the future utilization of the model are made.

Towards a new educational psychological model for learner support in South Africa

Pienaar, Christoffel Frederick January 2003 (has links)
This study presents a description of the development and history of learner support, as well as educational psychological leaner support, in South Africa. The role and function of the educational psychologist was researched through literature study and empirical research. It was found that whereas this pivotal profession is still vital in any educational system, the nature of contemporary society has necessitated a new dimension in educational psychological service delivery, namely systemic involvement. Guidelines for a new model for educational psychological learner support in the education dispensation are put forward. This model asks for the enlargement of the role of the educational psychologist to include assessment and support of all of the systems that play a role in the learner’s life.

Through the looking glass: the development of self-of-therapist in educational psychology master's degree therapy training

Cumming, Clayton 15 May 2008 (has links)
As an introduction to the style and format of this research report, I feel that a foreword would serve useful to the reader. The name of the research, the development of self of therapist in therapy training was carefully considered to represent the feel of this research report. When one considers a looking glass, better known today as a mirror, a couple of processes happen simultaneously. A mirror provides us with a superficial indication of who we are. The phrase shattered assumptions comes directly from this metaphor; we are whom we see ourselves as. A mirror, to work, needs to provide us with a reflection. For us to be able to develop assumptions about ourselves, we need to see our image reflected within the mirror. For us to look closely at ourselves, to see our hidden flaws and faults, we need to move up close to the mirror, and really look closely and intently into that mirror. And what we see, is no more than a reflection of ourselves- but it is us, the us that others in the world see us as. This research report is an analysis. It is a close inspection into the mirror of the development of self in therapy training, but more than analysis, the artefacts presented in this report, are a mirror. And within that mirror, within this research, a reflection is occurring, a reflection of me, of me on my path to development of self-of-therapist. / Mrs. H. Dunbar-Krige Dr. E. Fritz

First encounters in the workplace as experienced by industrial psychologists

Adinolfi, Enrico 10 July 2013 (has links)
M.A. (Industrial Psychology) / The object of this study is to explore the first-time work experiences of industrial psychologists. This phenomenon occurs during the entry phase of one’s career life cycle, and is associated with a reality shock, role transitions and socialisation. Ten participants were interviewed by making use of the Repertory Grid Technique to discover their mental models and personal constructs, which they created through their experiences. This information was interpreted from an interpretivist stance by using a case study and modernistic qualitative approach. Seven main themes were identified from the participant’s experiences. Four of these were considered to be enhancing and three were limiting. The three limiting themes that were regarded as negative relationships that were formed were the lack of knowledge of the industrial psychology profession, negative relationships formed and unmet expectations. The four enhancing themes were professional development, personal development, identifying the role of the industrial psychologist and identifying the value of the industrial psychologist. Recommendations were made on how to alleviate the negative experiences and a contracting model and industrial psychology career entry model were formed.

The role perception of the clinical psychologist

Wagner, Richard Carl 04 February 2014 (has links)
M.A. (Clinical Psychology) / Over the past decade, clinical psychologists have begun to play an increasingly important role in the community and in the mental health team. A good understanding of the role of the clinical psychologist is of extreme importance for the general practitioner in order -to make effective referals to the clinical psychologist when necessary and also for the maintenance of the mental health team. Van Den Berg (1980) states that the large number of incorrect referals between members of the mental health team are due to a lack of knowledge as to the services available. It is thus essential that research be conducted in order to clarify any misunderstandings that may exist between the general practitioner and the clinical psychologist who are both members of the mental health team. This research was conducted with two broad hypotheses in mind, namely that incongruence exists between the clinical psychologist's perception and the general practitioner's perception of the role of the clinical psychologist; and that general practitioners do not have a clear perception or understanding of the professional role of the clinical psychologist. In order to test these hypotheses, a questionnaire was designed and given to a sample of clinical psychologists and a sample of general practitioners. The questionnaire was based on the literature study of the role of the clinical psychologist and on interviews that were conducted with the teaching staff at the psychology department at the universities and mental institutions in the Witwatersrand area.
