O ensino de contabilidade introdutória nas universidades públicas do Brasil / The teaching of introduction to accounting in the public universities of Brasil

Cacilda Soares de Andrade 27 November 2002 (has links)
The main purpose of this research is to analyse the conditions of accounting teaching in Accountancy in Brazilian public universities from the survey. The work aims at: 1. Know the teaching methods and teaching means used on the discipline Financial Accounting or Introduction to Accounting courses, as well as to evaluate the interest of your professors in using educational technologies (use of computers with educational purposes, software, videoconference etc.); 2. Verify the infrastructure of the departments of public universities that have the course of Accountancy, in order to check which ones have conditions for the development of educational technologies mentioned. COMPORTAMENTO DOS CUSTOS DA CONSTRUÇÃO CIVIL NA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SANTA MARIA / BEHAVIOR OF CIVIL CONSTRUCTION COSTS AT FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF SANTA MARIA

Colpo, Iliane 21 March 2016 (has links)
Federal Universities promote higher education, and for that receive funds to be administered by public managers. Especially in 2007 with the establishment of the Restructuring Program and Expansion of Federal Universities resources for investment grew, allowing universities to intensify the expansion of its physical space. To contract engineering services the public administrator must follow the rules established primarily by Federal Law 8.666/93. Following the legislation, from construction planning to conclusion, the hiring process goes through several stages. As regards the building costs, this appears mainly in three stages: in the standard budget to public competition, the ratification of the contracted company and the final stage of the building conclusion. This thesis aimed to study the behavior of the civil construction costs at the Federal University of Santa Maria from 2010 to 2014, in especially regarding the estimated costs, the granted costs and the final cost of the work. This study is justified due to the relevance of the subject, because it is the use of public resources, largely originated from taxes collected from society. The study was developed through qualitative and quantitative research, using as a way the document and literature research and a ending the descriptive research. The results show the variations between planned and executed time, with a percentage of 75.55% of the construction resulting in terms of time additives, among the main causes identifies the change or project adjustments. Regarding per m² cost variation, the contracts are separated into groups according to the characteristics of the works, showing that the group with precast construction sets has the highest percentage of bids accepted and executed that were made at lower costs than budgeted. The group of buildings is the one with the highest percentage of additives terms and due to this the greater variation between the budgeted and executed. In canceled contracts, all unilaterally by the federal government, the cause listed was the contract break on estabilished schedule.

Diversity management practices at Lovedale College

Chola, Zolani January 2014 (has links)
The global working environment has altered dramatically over the last decade and in particular, the workforce has begun to consist of many diverse individuals. The world has become a global marketplace, with boundaries between countries becoming increasingly vague and permeable. Advances in technology and the advent of a global economy have brought people from different countries closer together. Globalisation has precipitated many challenges in modern organisations, and one of these challenges is workforce diversity. Workforces in organisations differ in terms of gender, age, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Globally, countries are faced with the spiralling challenge of skills shortages and there is an expanding competition for skilled workers, specifically for those who possess scarce skills. This leads to an expatriation of skills, creating a natural increase in workforce diversity that expands beyond local ethnicity and language. This affects all organisations, including academic institutions such as universities, universities of technology and public further education and training colleges. Given this challenge organisations, educational institutions and other entities are investigating ways to better deal or serve their constituents. Lovedale PFET College is a public further education and training college that provides skills to young South Africans, specifically vocational related skills. The main research problem of this study was to identify the recommended diversity management best practices that characterise effective organisations and determine the extent to which these practices are applied at Lovedale PFET College. In order to address the problem, a theoretical study was conducted which focused on identifying the recommended diversity management best practices. In addition, interviews were conducted with managers at Lovedale College to gain an understanding of their perspective on diversity management. Based on the combined main points gleaned from theory and the interviews, a questionnaire was developed and administered to both academic and support staff at Lovedale PFET College to obtain their perceptions of the diversity practices and outcomes at the college. The results of the survey revealed that Lovedale PFET College could improve on the implementation of best practices in diversity management. Specifically, attention could be given to diversity education and training, and diversity management policies and procedures.

Stakeholders' perceptions of MBA provision by public universities in Malaysia

Jamil, Rossilah January 2011 (has links)
The research was triggered by widespread criticisms from its constituencies about the relevance of MBAs, allegedly instigated by its dual academic and utilitarian purposes in developing functionally and ethically competent managers. Using Malaysia as the research focus, the perceptions of three MBA stakeholders (i.e. business schools/management educators, industries and students) were explored on the adequacy of MBA provisions by its public universities in preparing professionally and ethically competent managers. Their opinions were gauged on several subjective terms, each carrying the dual academic-utilitarian connotations, i.e. the roles of MBAs, the roles of its providers, the definitions of relevance, the definitions of managers and the necessary competencies, and their concerns over the social responsibility of managers and their education. The research employed mainly qualitative approaches. Primary data was gathered through semi-structured interviews, a focus group discussion and e-mails from the three stakeholders. The management educators and students were derived from three selected business schools. The secondary data involved analysis of the MBA websites and prospectuses provided by all the 10 public universities in Malaysia. In total, the research derived data consisting of 28 interviews, 1 focus group, 81 surveys, 3 email questionnaires, and 10 document analyses. The findings suggested that the perceptions of all three stakeholders reflected an imbalanced MBA that was biased towards utilitarian objectives as opposed to social objectives. The findings showed that religion / spirituality and the development of ME in Malaysia had a considerable impact in influencing the perspectives of the respondents. The research contributes to the discipline by demonstrating how a non-western, religious, developing country viewed the research issues dominated by Western literature.

The role of higher education in promoting entrepreneurship education : the case of public universities in Tanzania

Kilasi, Perpetua Kalimasi January 2013 (has links)
This study explores the role of universities as well as their strategies and extent to which entrepreneurship education is fostered in terms of policy frameworks, the curriculum and stakeholders‟ perceptions of entrepreneurship education. The study was guided by the question: “How do universities in Tanzania foster entrepreneurship education in different fields of study?” Shapero‟s entrepreneurial event model has been adapted to analyze the feasibility and desirability of entrepreneurship education in a university-wide curriculum. This is a case study of two public universities in Tanzania: the University of Dar es Salaam and Mzumbe University. In-depth interviews were conducted with lecturers across disciplines at the selected universities. Some officials from relevant government ministries and agencies were also interviewed. In addition to the interviews, relevant documents from the universities and government were also reviewed. An analysis of the data indicates that entrepreneurship education is not well-integrated within the university-wide curricula because its implementation does not suit the pedagogical needs of some disciplines. Its desirability and feasibility is still debatable because of various factors such as ; the incoherence between national and university policy strategies; complexity of university multidisciplinary structures; variations in stakeholders‟ perceptions; the business-oriented view of entrepreneurship education reflected in the literature and the evolution of the selected universities. However, the role of donor support for the current status of entrepreneurship education is significant by virtue of projects that are attached to some faculties and schools. Through these projects, entrepreneurship-related courses, programmes, centres and staff capacity development have been established. This study recommends that entrepreneurship education should be tailored to enhance the skills necessary for all forms of employment. This should go hand-in-hand with the establishment of boundary crossings between academia and emerging labour market. Donor-oriented projects should be well-negotiated between partners so that entrepreneurship education initiatives are tailored to suit the local context. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Education Management and Policy Studies / unrestricted

The Administration of Auxiliary Services in Texas Public Universities: Analysis and Proposed Integrated Model

Yarbrough, Marianne (Marianne June) 05 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to develop a model for the administration of auxiliary enterprises in Texas higher education as a cooperative effort of administrators and input from other sources. The purposes were to determine which administrators currently have the responsibility for the management of auxiliary services, to evaluate the correlation between the type of administrator and the concern for fiscal and student needs, to identify problems and opportunities for useful administration, and to develop a model integrating the strengths of each administrator and the implementation of new ideas to improve auxiliary enterprise management. A survey instrument consisting of three types of questions was mailed to both Vice Presidents of Fiscal Affairs and Student Affairs at all 26 four-year public institutions in Texas. Part I questions were informational, designed to determine who administers auxiliary services. Part II consisted of 20 questions on a Likert scale to obtain both opinions on the theories of the research, and specialized knowledge of the administrators. Part III was free response to solicit ideas from the administrators for the construction of the model. Paired t-tests were performed to determine knowledge strengths of the administrators. All other information was presented in frequency tables or narrative summaries.

A unified strategic business and IT alignment model : A study in the public universities of Nicaragua

Vargas Chevez, Norman January 2010 (has links)
A number of attempts have been made to define strategic business and information technology (IT) alignment; several representations of what it is are available in academic and practitioners’ fields. The literature suggests that firms need to achieve strategic business and IT alignment to be competitive. Strategic business and IT alignment impact business performance and IT effectiveness. We propose a unified strategic business and IT alignment model based on four strategic business and IT alignment models: Strategic Alignment Model (SAM), Strategic Alignment Maturity Model (SAMM), information system strategic alignment model and an operational model of strategic alignment. I argue that such a unified model will provide a better understanding of the nature and key aspects of strategic business and IT alignment from different, and sometimes complementary, theories. The unified model represents the concepts and instruments used in these four strategic businesses and IT alignment models. Our principal research goal is to pave the way to develop a common understanding between the different models. The components of the unified strategic business and IT alignment model were ranked with a group of IT experts and business experts from four public universities in Nicaragua. The result can be used as a basis for improving strategic business and IT alignment. / QC 20111212

Understanding Gender Diversity in Nigerian Public University Leadership: A Focus on Vice Chancellors Position

Gloria, Kurga January 2022 (has links)
A university community encompasses persons of diverse backgrounds such as ethnicity, gender, age, religion, and languages. There are 209 universities in Nigeria, making it the country with the highest number of universities in Africa. 105 of these universities are public universities. Public universities are owned, managed, and funded by the Government (Federal or State). Nigeria is a patriarchy state where women are under represented in all career sectors, be it health economy, political, traditional, faith or academics. Fewer women have emerged as Vice-Chancellors since 1948 when the first University was established in Nigeria. As at August 2022, there are only 8 female Vice chancellors in Nigerian public universities which presents a case to investigate. This research aims to study the possible underpinning for the under-representation of women as Vice Chancellors in Nigeria public universities. Due to the interest of this research, the paper takes a social constructivism approach to understand how these realities are constructed by academics. A qualitative research method was employed. Nine (9) professors including men and women were interviewed from the academic field: four women and five men. Three (3)former Vice Chancellors (women), one former VC (man) and five academic professors. The writer used a thematic technique to analyze findings from the interview. The interview findings show that; the academic world is male dominated, there is a general society stereotype, poor lobbying strength from the female professors in a not transparent system, and low career choices by females to become academics.
