The importance of participatory management for the development of public schools in the district Icoaraci the vision of its managers

Lena Núbia Bezerra Xavier 17 April 2010 (has links)
The objective of this study to analyze the importance of participatory management for the development of public schools and municipal Icoaraci District, city of Belém, according to the vision of its managers. In reviewing the literature were analyzed, significant aspects, advances and obstacles, perceived as the process of educational development in Brazil. Were also emphasized the ups and downs of school management and the importance of promoting democratic management in schools, aiming at the participation of the school community. In the field, a search was conducted with a quantitative approach, the descriptive level. The sample was defined by the number of existing schools in the district and is composed of 120 managers from school principals, vice principals, administrators and coordinators. The instrument was a questionnaire containing 61 questions. Data were tabulated and analyzed with the aid of the Sphinx software. The main educational advances made by schools engaged in shared management, through the perspective of managers, were the existence in its interior of the collegiate bodies such as the school council and class council, the school and community participation in developing the political project teaching and the opening of school space for the local community. Comparing the forms of management practiced by state and local public schools that contacted the managers who work at both schools stood out as the development of democratic practices in schools where they work. It can be concluded that managers are struggling to implement a participatory management, however the forces opposed to democratic work are factors that hinder and prevent, in most cases, the action. Among the main factors hindering included lack of professional advancement, and authoritarianism and individualism of school professionals.

A instituição escolar numa perspectiva democrática: um projeto em construção na educação básica / The school institution in a democratic perspective: a project under construction in the basic education

Bolla, Amélia Maria Gonçalves 25 March 2008 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-07-18T17:54:28Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-03-25 / Nowadays the Brazilian Education passes through a period of conflicts in all levels, but more specifically in the Basic Education. These conflicts are related to several problems like social disagreements in family, absence of educational work in group, lack of available sums of money for Education, increase and vulgarization of violence, among so many other factors, that have interfered directly in the work developed at scholl. The research itself justifies that, by giving importance to the question of the development of a democratical and participative school management, in which the most people who integrate the school have voices and participate of discussions and actions to minimize such problems. Involved by these perspectives, the research was based on two questions: Is it possible to develop a democratic management in a public school of Basic Education? Which is the way to be followed to this realization? The purpose of this study is to identify the main challenges faced by the manager team in a school of State Basic Education that compromise the development of the democratical participative management and, by means of this identification, to elaborate proposals which make possible the realization of a pedagogic work where all the involved people have a greater performance. The study was developed having as a basis the qualitative research, through the Study of Case in a school of the public system in a city of São Paulo State, focalizing the day by day of the manager team and all the challenges that compromise, in a relevant way, the taking of decisions in group. The instruments of the research were interviews with the managers, officials, students parents and teachers; observations; and a critical analysis of the School Quadrennial Management Plan (from 2007 to 2010). In that study was observed that the school has an acting school team, but only this participation isn t enough for the complete realization of the Democratic Management. The greatest problems verified at school were: teachers excessive absences, students indiscipline and insufficient time for a continued formation in work. A democratic and participative school is what the school team and the community s great majority have as aim. However, there is perception that this practice doesn t reach its plenitude by finding several obstacles. It is understood that the engagement to win such obstacles is all the citizens duty who want to act positively on the society and that the school is the main space where mentalities are build, being they democratic or not. At the end of the research came to the conclusion that there are possibilities of building a school where the management distinguishes by the democracy in its decisions. The division of tasks, the greatest compromising of all school team with the daily problems, and the disposability of more spaces for the continued formation in work are proposals that appear in this scenery and may have a positive result if can figure on the changing of the whole team s mentality.

The Significance of Male Participation in Home Economics Programs in Public Schools

Yovonie-Tijani, Rosaline S. 05 1900 (has links)
This investigation is to determine the extent of male participation in home economics courses in public schools. Related questionnaires were completed by participants and results tabulated. It was determined that the student's own interest, and their perception of how homemaking will help later are influencing factors for enrollment in homemaking classes. Food preparation, getting along with others, grooming, clothing selection and construction and using new equipment properly are areas of interest to male students. The belief that homemaking is for girls, and the lack of interest in the content and activities of homemaking classes account for the low male participation. Community understanding, friendly attitudes of counselors, a well equipped department, and practical homemaking courses could attract more male participation.

School Bus Routing To Allow Later School Start Times

Eslamifard, Rana 15 July 2020 (has links)
School districts providing busing services for students who live too far to walk to school. In many districts a fleet of school buses is used in sequence to transport high school students, then middle school students, and then elementary school students. The result is that high school classes must start much earlier in the morning than the elementary school, and buses may traverse similar routes three times each morning and afternoon. In light of recent research on the benefits of later high school start times and the need to control transportation costs, school districts are seeking efficient school bus routing plans that meet student needs at low cost. This study uses 2018 data for schools in Northampton, Massachusetts, to identify the potential to achieve two objectives: 1) start the high school classes as late as possible in the day, and 2) minimize the cost of busing. The proposed procedure makes use of existing school bus data to optimize bus routes, which can be applicable for smaller cities. A revised routing plan that mixes high school and middle school students on the same buses allows the high school to start 30 minutes later while reducing total school bus operations.

Teachers' Values for the Reduction of Teacher Attrition in Utah Public Schools

Jensen, Forrest 16 June 2022 (has links)
Teacher attrition is a major concern of educational systems. Research has investigated causes of attrition but have primarily neglected the role of teachers' values. The aim of this study is to explore how teachers prioritize four different factors: salary, administrative support, medical benefits, and teaching difficulty. Teachers (448) responded to a survey that asked them to (a) order the four factors by importance, (b) decide between job offers that differed with regards to these factors (e.g., a job with better salary or better administrative support), and (c) report information about teachers' characteristics. Data analysis involved exploring how teachers with differing characteristics prioritized these factors. Additionally, two-step cluster analysis was used to create seven distinct profiles of how teachers ranked the four factors. Findings indicate that teachers in this sample tended to value salary over the other factors. Medical benefits and teaching difficulty were not seen to be very important to teachers. Despite these overall trends, results further suggest that there is a large amount of variation in how teachers rank these factors and that some characteristics, primarily those related to household situations, had a significant impact on teachers' values. Teachers who had less responsibilities for others (e.g., not a primary wage earner, higher household income, married) tended to prioritize other factors over salary.

Colegio Público / Public School

Arévalo Hijar, Marianella Elvina 30 January 2020 (has links)
The proposed project for this thesis, is about the design of a Public school in the district of Villa El Salvador, district of Lima, province of Peru, which proposes a new proposal of educational typology. Since the choice of land, several important aspects were taken into account, which helped to find the architectural concept of the project and how it would be located in its surroundings. The proposal proposed for its location makes it attractive, since it is located in front of the National Technological University of South Lima and the Higher Technological Institute Julio C. Tello, this set of buildings, led to propose an urban proposal, which helped strengthen the educational area in the district. The project itself is the approach of a school that has as an initial concept, the modulation of the classroom, which is repeated one after another is forming the spatial sequence that creates the main volumetry leaving as a central space a cloister that would integrate all the environments of the school. In conclusion, document presents and explains from the starting point, the architectural idea, the concept by which the given volume is reached and how the project has been developed until reaching the proposed proposal. / Tesis
