To understand the production of these places of memory is also to understand how the counterpoint occurs, that is, the production of the invisibles or the amnestic places. From this it follows that the relation between people and these places of memory, as public spaces, produce educational processes that can interfere in the quality of the formation of the historical subject and of his citizenship. The research also seeks to highlight the counter-hegemonic resistance movements. / Esta pesquisa qualitativa procura entender como se dá a produção de lugares de memória, de acordo com o conceito desenvolvido pelo historiador Pierre Nora (1993), restringindo-se à análise de espaços públicos do centro histórico de Sorocaba, cidade do interior paulista. Compreender a produção desses lugares de memória é, também, entender como ocorre o contraponto, ou seja, a produção das invisibilidades ou os lugares amnésicos. Disso decorre que a relação entre as pessoas e esses lugares de memória, enquanto espaços públicos produzem processos educativos que podem interferir na qualidade da formação do sujeito histórico e de sua cidadania. A pesquisa procura, ainda, evidenciar os movimentos de resistência contra-hegemônicos.
