The aim of this study was to translate and validate a Portuguese version of the Urinary Incontinence-Specific Quality-of- Life Instrument (I-QOL), a questionnaire that is widely used in clinical trials. Fifty patients completed the same questionnaire twice at a 2-week interval. During the first visit, we conducted a face-to-face interview, and collected demographic data. The King´s Health questionnaire was completed during the same visit for comparisons. The results showed that the Portuguese version of the I-QOL has very good psychometrics properties. Reliability was assessed by Cronbach´s alpha (0.93), reproducibility was calculated through the intraclass correlation coefficient (0.88), construct validity was determined by comparing the I-QOL scores and King´s Health scores, and discriminant validity was calculated by comparing the total I-QOL scores with measures of gravity. We conclude that the Portuguese version of the I-QOL is a very good tool for the evaluation quality-of-life in women with urinary incontinence, in Portuguese speaking countries. / TEDE / BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertações

Vliv metody uvolňování dýchacích cest u pacientů s chronickou obstrukční plicní nemocí / The Effect of Airway Clearance Techniques on Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Milibari, Hussam January 2018 (has links)
Title The effect of airway clearance techniques on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Objective The main purpose of this study is to expose and evaluate the efficacy of airway clearance techniques on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease by using pulmonary functions and Quality of Life measurements from recent studies. Methodology This thesis is literature review. The selected studies were according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The selections of recent studies were published from the year of 2000 until 2017 in English language. The following research databases were selected to identify the relevant topic: PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, PEDro, and CINAHL. The parameters' results from the articles have been also selected by evaluation the statistical differences according to the P-values. Results Twenty-three articles out of 117 have been found according to inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria, and outcome measures. The techniques were active cycle of breathing technique (ACBT), positive expiratory pressure (PEP), temporary of positive expiratory pressure (T-PEP), Oscillating positive expiratory pressure (O-PEP), high-frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO), slow expiration with glottis opened in lateral posture (ELTGOL), postural drainage, and autogenic...

Designing an instrument to measure quality of life in low cost housing settlements.

Chanda, Renusha R. January 2005 (has links)
South Africa's post-apartheid housing situation is permeated with the knowledge and criticisms of low-income housing. Of late, the latter has gained more exposure than the merits of the process of low-come housing provision, but the criticisms have been generalised comments that have rarely been based on a methodical format of collection and analysis. Furthermore, there have been no reported instruments that have garnered collective perceptions of residents of low-income housing settlements. In light of this gap, in both the academic and political aspects of low income housing, this dissertation describes the design of a multi-construct instrument, aimed at determining quality of life (QOL) in low-income settlements, and specifically describes the two aspects of development of that instrument. It describes the development of the model, as well as the development of the instrument that is derived from that model. Furthermore, results of qualitative tests of fitness for the model and internal reliability tests of the instrument are also described. The model design details the development of domains and variables, derived primarily from literature, while the instrument details the design of items that constitute each variable. Cronbach's alpha reliability tests used to determine the internal reliability of items of the instrument indicate good internal consistencies of twelve of the fifteen constructs constituting the instrument, while frequency tables and descriptive statistics indicate high prioritisation of existing domains used within the model. This high prioritisation and good internal consistencies suggests that the model and instrument are adequately appropriate, relevant and reliable in as far as they have been developed at this stage, and with suitable modifications as recommended on the basis of the research, will yield an appropriate tool for similar studies. / Thesis (M.Env.Dev.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2005.
