The impact of in-service training: a reassessment of the cascade model

Mathekga, Abbey Mokwape 17 March 2005 (has links)
The learners’ results do not only reflect their performance but also depict the quality of learning and teaching that they have received. However, the focus seems to be only on learners’ results particularly, the grade 12 results, without regard to other facets of the Department of Education which have a direct impact on the learners’ results. Amongst others, there are teachers and in-service trainers who need to be looked into to ascertain the quality of service that learners receive. This study focuses on the provision of in-service training through the cascade model of training in the Brits district. There are several factors that have a bearing on the implementation of departmental policies, amongst others there is a question of teachers’ attitude. Teachers with positive attitudes turn out to be more willing in implementing what they learnt from in-service training by cascading the training at school. The selection of teachers who have to attend in-service training sessions relies on a clear plan from the in-service trainers that ought to be supplied well in advance so that the School Management Teams (SMT) can be in a position to selected the appropriate teacher to attend in-service training. On the other hand, the training approaches that are used by the in-service trainers play a vital role too. Reviewed literature in this study has proven beyond reasonable doubt that adults learn differently from the way children learn and therefore their training should be different from that of children. The learning theories are an attempt to give a sound background in terms of adult learning. The study has also found that there are some inconsistencies as far as the in-service trainers are concerned. Whilst their training approaches are varied and enjoyed by most teachers, there are serious inconsistencies in terms of evaluation of the in-service training sessions. Finally, both the in-service trainers and teachers are to some extent satisfied with in-service training in Brits district. However, in-service training in general needs to be reviewed in order to maximise the implementation of policies of the department. / Dissertation (MPhil (Education for Community Development))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Education Management and Policy Studies / unrestricted

Frytz, Patricia, Hödlmoser, Kerstin 03 January 2025 (has links)
This study investigates the sleep-wake behavior of elite youth team athletes in Austria concerning their training. For this purpose, 104 athletes (M = 14.52, SD = 0.40), who were each part of a U15/U16 soccer (n = 69) or ice hockey team (n = 35), were examined over 14–42 days using actigraphy and sleep protocol. In addition, we assessed chronotype (D-MEQ) and general sleep quality (PSQI). We hypothesized that sleep quality before training and matchdays would be lower than before rest days, and that low sleep quality would negatively affect training intensity. The study showed that athletes slept longer on rest days. It also confirmed that shorter sleep duration and longer sleep onset latency negatively impact perceived training intensity the following day. A greater emphasis on sleep quality in performance analyses and in the design of training plans is recommended.

Key aspects of quality assurance in the teaching and training of the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape

Modise, Motsamai John 12 1900 (has links)
It is imperative to have quality assurance processes in place in division training to provide quality training to enable members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to provide quality services to communities within their area of jurisdiction. The aim of the study was to determine the presence of and the need for implementation of effective quality assurance processes in education and training in the South African Police Service (SAPS). The concepts quality and quality assurance were explained in the literature review. Questionnaires were completed by the trainers in the South African Police Service (SAPS) at various training centers in the Northern Cape Province. The researcher advocates to promote and enhance quality assurance in education and training programmes in the South African Police Service (SAPS). Therefore, it is recommended that quality assurance programmes be introduced based on total quality management system for continuous improvement which can provide any training programme with a set of “tools” to meet and exceed the present needs and expectations of the adult learners in the South African Police Service (SAPS) context. / Teacher Education / M. A UNIVERSIDADE PÚBLICA COMO ESPAÇO DE FORMAÇÃO: UM ESTUDO A PARTIR DE VOZES DISCENTES / THE PUBLIC UNIVERSITY AS TRAINING SPACE: A STUDY FROM VOICES STUDENT

Henriques, Cecília Machado 16 April 2010 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This study is part of the Research Line 1: Training, knowledge and professional development of the UFSM Postgraduate Program in Education and the project "Quality Indicators for the Brazilian Higher Education", developed by Rede Sul Brasileira de Investigadores da Educação Superior (RIES) in Observatório da Educação. The goal is to investigate what is the understanding of students on vocational training offered in UFSM and the training of its teachers. To do so, we identify how students evaluate the degree chosen and the resources available in their courses; learning activities that graduate students seeking to supplement their professional training and infer how students realize the activities of their teachers, as well as the formation of these to work in higher education. We propose a search for exploratory, descriptive and analytic approach has the support of qualitative and quantitative (BICUDO, 1997; TRIVIÑOS, 1987, GIL, 1994). Data collection was conducted with undergraduate students from a structured questionnaire comprising sixty-four questions. We propose this because we believe that research is a relevant issue as it seeks to analyze and discuss how the University fulfills its social function in terms of training, because we consider it important that discussions on education does not fall only on the training of teachers, but they consider also the understanding of students about the training offered at undergraduate level. That is, if we want to understand the practical training teachers at this level of education will meet the desires and demands of students, mainly because in recent years, Brazilian universities have undergone changes, especially about the actions leading to the evaluation and quality education and because higher education is constantly reinforced as an essential element in training professionals able to deal with a globalized and in constant transformation world.
