Effect of fault and transmission error on a spur gear meshing stiffness by vibration and time-frequency techniques

Yakeu Happi, Kemajou Herbert January 2021 (has links)
M. Tech. (Department of Metallurgical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology), Vaal University of Technology. / To meet the ever-increasing demand for maintenance of gear systems, industrial companies have traditionally depended on the shutdown of the machines before processing the fault diagnosis. Nowadays, online monitoring has proven to be effective in terms of machine state analysis and fault prediction. However, the application of such a technique in the analysis of combined multiple nonlinear faults is still a subject of research. The vibration signature of a coexisting nonlinear crack and pit in two-stage gear system is unknown, it can be regarded as one of the most difficult problems to extract and diagnose. Additionally, incorporating both a crack and a pit into numerical models is a time-consuming process that demands a breadth of mechanical understanding. Diagnostics of faulty gears, on the other hand, can be performed in the time and frequency domain or in the Time-Frequency domain, depending on the complexity of the vibration. Non-linear and non-stationary phenomena (Features) occur when repeated pitting and cracking faults occur, reducing the reliability of standard signal processing methods (Gear displacement and Fast Fourier Transform). This thesis solves each of these shortcomings by developing an eight-degree-of-freedom (DOF) gear model with a breathing crack and multiple pitted gear teeth. The identified spur-gear model enabled the investigation of the crack and pitting signatures and their effect on the ensuing vibrations independently of the action of other system components. Additionally, when pitting and cracking coexist, the study was conducted to determine the influence of such a failure on the transmission system. Theoretical results indicated that the presence of pitting and crack in the tooth of the gear resulted in a decrease in mesh stiffness. Additionally, the influence of the breathing pitting and crack results in material fatigue, which results in the generation of a random term in the vibration signal. To corroborate the acquired results, several experimental tests on a spur-gear test rig with a defined pit and crack size range were undertaken under a variety of conditions. In comparison to the presented methodologies, theoretical and experimental results indicate that 3D Frequency-RPM analysis is the most sensitive and resilient method for the early detection and identification of pit and crack faults. Furthermore, when crack or pit faults are studied individually, the STFT analysis yields interesting results. The feature analysis revealed that, when using the Time-Frequency technique, the crack and pit combination in a two-stage gear system is a priori more efficient than the other options.

Fixação de preços de revenda no Sistema Brasileiro de Defesa da Concorrência: análise do direito sancionador antitruste à luz do princípio da segurança jurídica / Resale price maintenance within the scope of Brazilian System for the Defense of Competition: analysis of antitrust law in the light of the principle of legal certainty

Mello, Fernando Amorim Soares de 15 February 2017 (has links)
The research encompasses the policies enforced by the Brazilian System of Competition Defence (SBDC) with regard to Resale Price Maintenance (RPM). While the conduct may produce a negative impact over competition - reducing the welfare of consumers -, the lack of predictability from the rulings enforced by SBDC on the subject might, likewise, produce deleterious outcomes to the institutional environment. The focus of this research rests on the premise of promoting a maximization of legal security in the context of RPM within SBDC. The initial hypothesis is that the institutional alternatives may be found within the very normative scope of SBDC, without prejudice of other structural solutions. Based on those premises we applied the Analysis of Institutions method in order to solve the issue within an institutional scope. Such method encompassed the analysis as a descriptive means, with the objective of identifying the elements/particularities of the given environment in order to define the contours from the object of the research. Subsequently, we moved on to the analytical method in order to instrumentally investigate possible flaws within the scope of what was previously studied. Thus, the subsequent lines of thought were both deductive and hypothetico-deductive. As a conclusion, the institutional stability is one of the factors to be considered in the promotion of competition defense, and it should be warranted within an intersection of repressive and educative functions from the SBDC, that is, through educative measures (ex ante) before repressive actions (punitive actions, ex post). It was concluded that institutional stability is one of the factors to be considered in promoting competition and should be guaranteed at the intersection between the repressive and educational functions of the SBDC, that is, through educational measures (ex ante measures) before punitive measures ex post. It will always be up to Cade to consider the claims with regard to reasonability and proportionality, not only with regard to the end activity but also with regard to the outcomes over the institutional environment - which also encompasses the duty of legal protection as well. Moreover, the notion of restrictions of competition \"by the object\" - as well as any institutional innovation contrary to the ones previously administered - should be considered from the perspective of the pillars of the Administrative Process Law.

L'art du 'ūd égyptien, de l'organologie à la performance : la virtuosité traditionnelle et son évolution à l'aune du 78 tours / The art of the Egyptian ‘Ūd, from Organology to Performance : traditional Virtuosity and its Evolution in View of the 78 rpm Recording

Abdalla, Tarek 29 September 2017 (has links)
The autonomy of Arabic instrumental art and, in particular, the development of improvisational from (taqsīm) on the 'ūd, were concomitant with the advent of 78 rpm recordings in Egypt (1903), as represented by the recordings of Sayyid as-Suwaysī. Yet, the apogee of this art will wait until the 1920s, with the novelties brought to its practice by Muḥammad al-Qaṣabgī, dubbed Sultan of 'Ūd. The emergence of 78 rpm recordings is anticipated by a real musical renaissance, led by genius musicians attached to the court of Ismā‘īl Pasha and his successors. The development of the instrumental counterpart of this school (called the Nahḏa) which is closely related to 'ūd, is linked in particular to the appearance during the last third of the 19th century of a new model of this instrument. The geometric characteristics of this innovative model (size, ratio between length of the vibrating string and the neck length) clearly distinguish it from its predecessor as described by both Western (Villoteau, Lane, Fetis) and Oriental authors (Maššāqa et al-Jundī). Moreover, during the period 1902-1904, several Egyptian theorists expressed explicitly their appreciation of this instrument and presented it as an update of the Abbasid Arab modal theory, conceived according to the ūd's fingering, and its application to the large Egyptian ‘ūd. In so doing, they affirmed the importance of the instrument in theory, performance and education. This thesis aims at studying the evolution of traditional virtuosity related to the medieval notion of haḍaq (linked to artistic perfection) within the Arab musical legacy through the analysis of development of musical forms, tuning, and techniques. This examination begins with an organological and acoustic study of the different models used in the recordings of the early era (1904-1937) as an external criterion. It continues with the segmentation of performed sentences, based on internal criteria, related to Arabic poetic metrics, instrumental technique and the configuration of musical discourse. The study ends with a modal semiotic medialization

Μπαϊραχτάρης, Νικόλαος 04 September 2009 (has links)
The object of this diploma thesis is the designing and the construction of an electric drive system for an electric boat. A number of technical interventions were made to transform a simple boat to an electrically driven boat. In our days the electric boats and the electric propulsion in general constitute a part of the electric transportation. The electric transportation may be a possible solution in the continuously increasing demand in the sector of transports as well as in energy and environmental problems that this causes. The high efficient electric machines and power electronic converters, the high control level of power electronics that offers manoeuvrability in a ship, the lack of noise - disturbance and the absence of pollution lead us to use electric boats and electric propulsion more and more in our days. In our application for practical and safety reasons we were led to the choice of a low voltage permanent magnet direct current (DC) motor. This is resulting to a high value of current to get the nominal power of 1.5 kW. For this reason an interleaved four – channel dc/dc converter was designed and constructed which has the ability to control high currents and is ideal for such type applications. The particular converter is constituted by 4 parallel channels, it is working in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and it degrades the voltage of 36V to 0-24V for the control of the rpm of the dc propulsion motor which its full load current is 78A. Firstly a number of simulations made via PSpice program and also a number of experiments to see how the converter is working. The experiments shows that the efficiency of the interleaved converter of the application is about 95%, so it is a good solution for driving low voltage – high current dc motors. Such types of electric motors are used in many electric transportation applications. The launching of the boat and a number of sea tests shows us the advantages electric propulsion has.
