A representação falocêntrica do nordestino está tão bem absorvida, cristalizada no imaginário e subjetivada por nós hoje, que não chegamos nem ao menos a questioná-la. Esta invenção histórica da figura do nordestino, portanto, serviria para combater os "maus costumes" que emergiam com a reurbanização da cidade do Recife. Vários discursos críticos a uma modernidade desenfiado que estaria invadindo a cidade alardeavam sobre a crise das identidades sexuais, ao mesmo instante que serviam para classificar as práticas dos "maus costumes" e difundir o medo de uma "desvirilização da raça". Discutia-se sobre a presença de mulheres que, de costas, pareceriam homens, ou sobre homens resignados e "moles", incapazes de assumir velhos papéis sociais ditos como típicos de seus antepassados. Homens " efeminados" e"mulheres viragos" que para a intelectualidade recifense não representariam mais o tempo áureo de uma região constituída e habitada apenas por homens de fibra, verdadeiros "cabras-machos" / Abstract: The aim of this work is to analyzes the invention of a masculinity model ahead of fears that being named as "bad usages" in the Recife' s elite and intellectual speeches of 20th century. The virility representation of the inhabitant of northeastern Brazil is toa assimilated in our imaginary, and nowadays is a popularized model of subjectivity that we don't discuss it. This historical invention of the inhabitant of northeastern Brazil, thus, was suppose to contest the "bad usages" that were appearing because the urbanization process in Recife city. Many critical speeches about an uncontrolled modernity that was conquering the city, larded about the crisis of sexual identities and tried to classify the "bad usages" practices diffusing the fear of a "not virile race". The elite and intellectual' s critics discussed about women that in back looked like men, or about submissive and "lasy" men, unable to assume old social roles considered typical of their ancestors. "W omanish" men and "masculine" women that for the Recife' s intellectuality do not represent any more the apogee of a region composed and inhabited just for strength men, real "cabras-machos" / Mestrado / Mestre em História
