Constructing Educational Criticism Of Online Courses: A Model For Implementation By Practitioners

Online courses are complex, human-driven contexts for formal learning. Little has been said about the environment emerging from the interaction of instructor(s), learners, and other resources in such courses. Theories that focus on instructional settings and methods that are designed to accommodate inquiry into complex phenomena are essential to the systematic study of online courses. Such a line of research is necessary as the basis for a common language with which we can begin to speak holistically about online courses. In this dissertation, I attempt to generate better questions about the nature of online instructional environments. By combining prior works related to educational criticism and qualitative research case study with original innovations, I develop a model for studying the instructional experiences of online courses. I then apply this approach in the study of one specific online course at the University of Central Florida (UCF).

This paper seeks to broaden the existing understanding of women empowerment and entrepreneurship by focusing on the less-studied contemporary phenomenon of women empowerment cause-related marketing. A case study analysis was used to assess two main areas of interest: (1) elements of empowerment social-cause marketing embedded in the program, and (2) individual perceptions of empowerment by participants. The paper revealed that in the case studied (1) this recent corporate practice is a win-win situation using traditional elements of both women empowerment and cause-related marketing practices and, (2) empowers participants mainly in psychological, economic, sociocultural and familial and interpersonal dimensions of their lives. / Marketing para causas sociais pode oferecer oportunidades de contribuir ao empoderamento das mulheres ao mesmo tempo que tem um impacto positivo para empresas liderando aqueles programas. Este trabalho procura ampliar o conhecimento atual sobre o empoderamento e empreendedorismo feminino apoiando-se no recém fenômeno menos estudado de marketing para causas sociais de empoderamento feminino. Uma analise de estudo de caso procurou determinar duas áreas de interesse: (1) elementos de empoderamento e marketing para causas sociais incorporados ao programa, e (2) percepções individuais de empoderamento pelas próprias participantes. O estudou demostrou que no caso estudado (1) essa recém tendência corporativa é uma estratégia 'win-win' que usa elementos tradicionais de ambos empoderamento feminino e marketing para causas sociais; (2) empodera as participantes nas áreas psicológica, econômica, sociocultural e familiar e interpessoal das suas vidas.

This work presents a complex analysis of the methodological teaching goals with regard to the museum education, in the context of cooperation between schools and museums from the humanistic concept of education perspective. The subject of the work is based on the assumption that certain methodological goals entail a significant feature for educational planning and implementation, and they also are one of the instruments of the functional development cooperation between the two institutions. The theoretical part of thesis deals with the methodological goal as a follow-up to the museum education definition. It is not only essential to find a concept of the term - teaching goal, but also to analyse the content of the museum education goals; so it's the work analysis of a museum pedagogue and his/her goals towards other components in the museum education process. The emphasis is put also on the issue of autoevaluation regarding the educational results. Last but not least the work focusses on the historical perspective as well. Namely, it examines the cooperation between schools and museums, its educational programmes as systematic conditions for a mutual collaboration. Čtenářské strategie v rozvoji čtenářské pregramotnosti: případová studie na české a slovenské škole / Reading strategies that promote an understanding of texts in nursery school: case study of Czech and Slovakia nursery schools

The aim of the Master's thesis was to evaluate the level of access of kindergartens in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the development of reading literacy, and the concrete use of reader strategies by nursery teachers. In the theoretical part, I dealt with the definition of reading literacy and grammar, I referred to teacher education through a reader's continuum. I also discussed the issues of reading strategies. Then I compared the Czech and Slovak educational system as a whole and also in relation to the reader's literacy. I have added some of the programs to support reading literacy and comparing them in both of republics. In the research section, I used a mixed research design to get as much data as possible. At the beginning, I collected the data using questionnaires with closed and open questions, then I conducted in-depth interviews with two teachers from the Slovak Republic and two teachers from the Czech Republic. I followed these teachers in their pedagogical activities. On the basis of the results, I have come to the conclusion that, on the practical side, Slovak teachers of reading literacy do more than Czech ones. Strategic intent and the management of infrastructure systems

Infrastructure is presenting significant national and global challenges. Whilst often seen as performing well, infrastructure tends to do so against only limited terms of reference and short-term objectives. Given that the world is facing a new infrastructure bill of ~£40T, improving the benefits delivered by existing infrastructure is vital (Dobbs et al., 2013). This thesis investigates strategic intent and the management of infrastructure systems; how factors such as organisational structure and business practice affect outcomes and the ways in which those systems — not projects — are managed. To date, performance has largely been approached from the perspective of project investment and/or delivery, or the assessment of latent failures arising from specific shocks or disruptive events (e.g. natural disaster, infrastructure failures, climate change). By contrast, the delivery of system-level services and outcomes across the infrastructure system has been rarely examined. This is where infrastructure forms an enduring system of services, assets, projects, and networks each at different stages of their lifecycle, and affecting one another as they develop, then age. Yet system performance, which also includes societal, organisational, administrative and technical factors, is arguably the level relevant to, and the reality of, day-to-day public infrastructure management. This research firstly investigated industry perceptions in order to test and confirm the problem: the nub of which was the inability to fully deliver appropriate and relevant infrastructure outcomes over the long term. Three detailed studies then explored the reasons for this problem through different lenses; thereby providing an evidence-base for a range of issues that are shared by the wider infrastructure industry. In confirming its hypothesis that “the strategic intent and the day-to-day management of infrastructure systems are often misaligned, with negative consequences for achieving the desired long-term infrastructure system outcomes”, this research has increased our understanding of the ways in which that misalignment occurs, and the consequences that result. It found those consequences were material, and frequently not visible within the sub-system accountable for the delivery of those outcomes. That public infrastructure exists, not in its own right, but to be of benefit to society, is a central theme drawn from the definition of infrastructure itself. This research shows that it is not enough to be focused on technical outcomes. Infrastructure needs to move beyond how society interacts with an asset, to the outcomes that reflect the needs, beliefs, and choices of society as well as its ability to respond to change (aptitude). Although the research has confirmed its hypothesis and three supporting propositions, the research does not purport to offer ‘the solution’. Single solutions do not exist to address the challenges facing a complex adaptive system such as infrastructure. But the research does offer several system-oriented sense-making models at both the detailed and system-level. This includes the probing methodology by way of a diagnostic roadmap. These models aim to assist practitioners in managing the transition of projects, assets, and services into a wider infrastructure system, their potential, and in (re)orienting the organisation to the dynamic nature of the system and its societal imperative.
