Devido às diferenças de velocidade entre discos e processadores, o método proposto visa reduzir o tempo de espera pelas solicitações feitas aos discos através da aplicação de alguns conceitos de administração da produção, como Teoria das Filas, Teoria das Restrições, Processamento em Lotes e Tempo de Setup. O método utilizado reestruturou a forma de uso do hardware disponível ao invés de modificar códigos de aplicativos ou aumentar a capacidade do hardware, duas das opções utilizadas para redução de tempo de resposta. As influências de um ambiente operacional competitivo sobre o desempenho dos aplicativos foram reduzidas a partir do mapeamento das etapas dos processos de Tecnologia da Informação e da utilização dos conceitos de melhoria de produção. O resultado obtido foi uma redução significativa do tempo de processamento de aplicativos e do uso de processador, sem oferecer riscos ao ambiente de apoio aos negócios. / Abstract: This dissertation proposes a method to reduce process response time in mainframes without modifying the software codes. Due to the differences between disks and processors speed, the benefits were reached through the disk queue reduction applying some concepts of operations management such as Queuing Theory, Theory of Constraints, Batch Processing and Setup Time reduced the response time in mainframes. The method proposed restructured the use of the hardware available instead of modifying the software codes or increasing hardware capacity, which are two options for response time reduction. Mapping the steps in information technology processes and using concepts of production improvement reduced the influences of a competitive operational environment on software performance. Reference data are collected in two groups: i) individuals are affected and ii) individuals are not affected with Multiple Sclerosis. A portable metering device is developed with the differential of measuring simple and choice response times for upper and lower limbs with the use of auditory and visual stimuli. A method is proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the rehabilitation process of patients with neurosensory-motor impairment through standardized quantitative measures that aid in clinical decisions and treatment. The result of the proposed method is the multidimensional graph consisting of competing axes formed by normalized scales between 0% and 100% that indicate the level of neurosensory-motor impairment assessed from the response time data. The data distribution is analyzed using the maximum likelihood method, descriptive statistics and the use of the scale and graph model proposed is demonstrated and compared with the Kurtzke Expanded Disability Status Scale in Multiple Sclerosis patients. / Propõe-se neste trabalho o desenvolvimento da escala de evolução para patologia neurossensória-motora através de abordagem estatística e uso de testes de tempo de resposta. Dados de referência são coletados em dois grupos: i) indivíduos acometidos e ii) indivíduos não acometidos com Esclerose Múltipla. É desenvolvido dispositivo medidor portátil com diferencial de mensurar tempos de resposta simples e de escolha para membros superiores e inferiores com o uso de estímulos auditivos e visuais. Propõe-se método de avaliação da eficácia do processo de reabilitação de pacientes com comprometimento neurossensório-motor através de medidas quantitativas padronizadas que auxiliem nas decisões clínicas e no tratamento. O resultado do método proposto é o gráfico multidimensional composto por eixos concorrentes formados por escalas normalizadas entre 0% e 100% que indicam o nível de comprometimento neurossensório-motor avaliado a partir dos dados de tempo de resposta. A distribuição dos dados são analisadas através do método da máxima verossimilhança, estatística descritiva e o uso do modelo de escala e gráfico proposto são demonstrados e comparados com a avaliação da Escala Expandida do Estado de Incapacidade de Kurtzke em pacientes de Esclerose Múltipla.

A Quantitative Study of Quality of Experience (QoE) for Decreasing and Increasing Network Performance.

Currently, user satisfaction is becoming one of the major concerns for the service provider in accommodating user demand. This paper evaluates the user’s perception (Quality of Experience, QoE) of the increasing and decreasing response times (Quality of Service, QoS), in particular a login to web login page by the implementation of Mean Opinion Score (MOS). By comparing the results to user perception of web login performance, we show that the users perceive web login for increasing and decreasing RTs in different ways. So, we conduct interview among specific users applying increased and decreased RTs in particular web login to rank the users satisfaction level. Study of the two results for RTs of the web login page is presented.

Performance study of security mechanism for mobile agent domain

Context: Mobile agents are considered quite challenging and provide scope for developing innovative applications in distributed computing domain. One important area where there is a scope to employ mobile agents successfully is the Network security domain. There are plethora of mobile agent based security mechanisms proposed till now. But the successful deployment of the security mechanism is effected by the parameters like performance, efficiency, ability to identify the intruders, and the models vulnerability to direct attacks and so-on which make the successful deployment of the mobile agents in the security domain more challenging. Therefore it’s often demanding to identify a security mechanism that entails the performance by making use of the mobile agents in the security domain on the contrary the mechanism need to be generic and support all kinds of the environments. As a result performing vulnerability analysis in mobile agent security domain is often required. Objectives: The main objective of this study is to provide the report that incorporates the empirical analysis of the selected mobile agent based security mechanism from the perspective of performance that could be useful in defining the standards for development of the security modules for mobile agents. The secondary aim of this study is to characterize the issues related to the performance of the security mechanism in the mobile agents environment. And finally to identify the model specific barriers that will effect the performance of the security mechanism for mobile agents. Methods: This thesis performs the vulnerability analysis on the selected mobile agent based security mechanism and uses a direct implementation method to study the performance of the security mechanism. The factors considered from the performance perspective are the round trip time or can also be termed as total response time. The effect of the performance is studied with respect to the scalability of the network parameters like the number of packets and the size of the network. This thesis focuses on implementing four different modules which are individual agents communicating with each other in the network when deployed while performing a combing on the network for vulnerabilities. The four different modules implemented in the thesis are the Information Gathering Agent, Tracing Agent, Manager or Managing agent, Monitor or Monitoring agent. The performance of the mechanism is studied in three phases. The agents of the selected mechanism are implemented in the first phase and in the second phase a shear testing is done on those implemented agents of the security mechanism by collecting the round trip times of the agents as a whole with respect to the number of increasing packets (with a % increase in the number of illegitimate packets and also with the change in the number of nodes). A close monitoring on the model for the performance is performed to identify the pit falls of the model. Finally in the third phase the collected results are analyzed and presented as a set of findings from this study. Results: The results collected from this experimental study are analyzed from the motive that the security mechanism is being monitored from the perspective of identifying as many intrusions efficiently as an elusive goal rather than identifying as many intrusions precisely. The results from this thesis prove that the mechanism considered is more efficient rather than precise. Even though the results obtained from this study can be seen as efficient but there is a set of residue packets which takes a bit more time than the other packets as can be seen when one progresses the results from top to bottom this is primarily because of the factors associated with the inter networking environment like the network traffic with respect to the size of the network or the number of nodes in the network. Conclusions: After analyzing the results and providing the answers to the research questions, a conclusion can be made that the selected security mechanism is proved efficient rather than precise. This mechanism is proved to be useful only to reduce the number of intruders in the networking domain. On the contrary the mechanism also helps the deployment of the security mechanism easy this is because the advantage associated with the selected security mechanism which uses the less number of agents.

Web Service Performance on Heterogeneous Systems : A performance comparison between J2EE and .NET on heterogeneous systems

At the moment, two main web platforms have the monopoly of web service business; NET and J2EE have been competitors in this area for many years. Within last years, a technological advance has occurred with the appearance of Mono, an open source project that allows NET technologies to be taken into operating systems other than Microsoft Windows. This opens an information gap that needs to be solved with a new and actualised performance analysis. This thesis work identifies the performance characteristics of the web platforms on heterogeneous systems. The aim of this study is to investigate different performance characteristics of .NET and J2EE web services in heterogeneous systems. The student systems are Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux. A set of web services is built following different service structures, which are then exposed to some quantitative and qualitative test following predefined criteria. The results demonstrate that both .NET and J2EE are suitable web platforms under different circumstances, based mostly on the communication protocol and operating system. This work identifies the best combination of web platform and operating system for each of the web service structures, which can vary for each company.

[pt] Os medidores de pH existentes no mercado indicam valores confiáveis, dentro de uma incerteza declarada para cada modelo fabricado. Entretanto, normalmente, não é citada a especificação em termos do tempo necessário para alcançar estes valores, devido ao tempo de resposta do instrumento. Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objetivo desenvolver uma metodologia teórico-experimental para avaliar o desempenho do transdutor em condições transientes, indicando alguns valores típicos para medidores comerciais, e sua resposta na medição de pH, a partir do modelo testado em uma reação experimental, sendo o mesmo simulado em outras reações químicas para diferentes velocidades de reação.Através deste modelo qualificado, foram avaliados os erros devidos às respostas permanentes e transientes, mostrando em que condições o medidor de pH pode ser usado, a partir da comparação entre valores de pH real e valores de pH registrados pelo medidor, levando em consideração a temperatura e o tempo de reação. / [en] The electrochemical analysers available in the market assert trustworthy values applicable in a specific uncertainty range, which varies depending on the unit`s model.Nevertheless, rarely is given any information on the time necessary to reach these values, which depend on the answer of the instrument. This Master`s dissertation aims to develop an experimental theoretical methodology to evaluate the performance of the transducer in transient conditions, and obtain some typical values for commercial analysers, and its answer in the pH measurements in simulated chemical reactions in various reaction velocities. Through the qualified model, the errors due to the permanent and transient answers were evaluated, establishing the conditions pH electronic units can be used, in a pre-set controlled error, from the comparison between real pH values and displayed pH values in the analysers, considering the temperature and the reaction time.

An investigation of the diagnostic utility of intraindividual variability in attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder: an ex-Gaussian approach.

This dissertation aimed to investigate the utility of the ex-Gaussian approach to estimating intraindividual variability (IIV) of response times (RT) in diagnosing attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children ages 6 to 13 years old. Higher IIV is consistently noted in children with ADHD, but also with other disorders commonly associated with impairments in attention. Firstly, the relationship between IIV and attention abilities was investigated both in relation to parent ratings and participants’ objective performance. Secondly, IIVs utility as an objective measure for supplementing behavioural ratings in the diagnosis of ADHD, a diagnosis which is currently primarily assigned based on informant interviews and ratings of attention, was assessed. Participants included 46 children with ADHD and 58 children without ADHD. Children completed computerized tasks to estimate IIV and assess inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity. Parents completed questionnaires aimed at assessing attention and hyperactive/impulsive behaviours of participants. Analyses revealed that IIV was predictive of parent ratings of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity as well as the number of omission errors made by participants. Regarding diagnostic utility, IIV significantly predicted group membership (ADHD vs Control). However, IIV did not improve diagnostic accuracy when parent ratings were used, such that parent ratings were superior at determining diagnosis. Overall, current results support the use of IIV, based on the ex-Gaussian approach, as an objective measure of attention problems such that it appears to be superior to omission errors on sustained attention CPT-type tasks. Additionally, while parent ratings of attention impairment remain the best predictor of ADHD diagnostic status, IIV may be helpful in determining when further assessment is required in the absence of those ratings. / Graduate / 2021-06-17

Disertační se práce se zabývala vývojem magnetoreologického (MR) tlumiče odpružení pro kosmonautiku. Dle současného stavu poznání jsou důležitými parametry pro semi-aktivně řízený tlumič pro kosmonautiku hermetické oddělení pracovní kapaliny od zbytku nosiče a krátká časová odezva tlumícího elementu. Těmto požadavkům vyhovuje magnetoreologický tlumič s vlnovcovou jednotkou. Magnetický obvod MR tlumiče pro kosmonautiku byl vyroben z feritového materiálu, který umožnil výrazně snížit časovou odezvu. Hermetičnost byla zajištěna použitím vlnovcové jednotky. Konstrukce takového typu tlumiče ovšem přináší celou řadu problémů. Vyvinutý MR tlumič s feritovým magnetickým obvodem dosahoval časové odezvy 4.1 ms a dynamického rozsahu 8. Během konstrukčních prací na MR tlumiči pro kosmonautiku byly hledány nové metody pro konstrukci semi-aktivně řízeného MR tlumiče s krátkou časovou odezvou. Konkrétně se jednalo o metodu eliminace vířivých proudů v magnetickém obvodu MR tlumiče, magnetostatický a transietní magnetický model, CFD model obtokové štěrbiny, hydraulický model MR tlumiče a jejich experimentální verifikace. Tyto nové metody umožní konstrukci MR tlumiče pro kosmonautiku lehčí, s nižší časovou odezvou a vyšším dynamickým rozsahem.

Serverová aplikace pro zpracování dat z databáze MySQL a jejich interpretaci / Server application to process data from a MySQL database and their interpretation

Diploma thesis is about creating server application that process and interprets data from the database. Main aim of such application is able to process a large number of database requests in real-time environment. Provided database contains records of measuring download speed and quality of mobile connection via different radio technology from various providers. Those measured data are sent from users all around the world and amount of data collected is still growing. Therefore created server application can adapt to increasing size of database thanks to aggregation. This method of aggregation and use of index in database tables are further discussed in the theoretical part. Mainly putting indexes in tables produce significant acceleration of processing database requests. Final product of this thesis is an application that consist of three components: a server application running aggregation, website that interprets measured data and back-end interface providing measured data as well. Data at the website are presented in form of graphs for different countries and used radio technologies. Web address and user manual for finished applications are provided in the fourth chapter of diploma thesis. In the last part of thesis are performed various speed tests of programmed application that confirm the effectiveness of selected and described methods to accelerate work with the database.
