Professores aposentados: quais os motivos para o seu retorno à docência? /

Meira, Vanessa Ribeiro Andreto. January 2012 (has links)
The theoretical studies involved the context of public schools and the dilemmas faced by teachers, social retirement legislation related to the teachers, the cycles of life and teaching career and inactivity aspect related of retirement process. This research used a qualitative approach and the participants were six retired teachers in exercise in municipal schools. The data's survey collection from these teachers was settled in two stages. At first, we implemented a semistructured interview in order to identify the professionals profile, understand the reasons which led them to retire and then return to the teaching profession after retirement. The second step consisted in a depth interview, in order to understand some teachers testimonies and probe how occurred the retirement process of these teachers and why they return to teaching... Non-financial Factors Related to the Retirement Process of Selected Faculty Groups

Conley, Valerie M. 25 April 2002 (has links)
Faculty members are influenced by a complex set of factors when making decisions about when to retire. These factors generally include both financial and non-financial characteristics. This study was designed to examine the non-financial factors related to the retirement process for selected faculty groups. Key components of the design included selecting faculty groups for analysis and identifying the non-financial factors related to the retirement process. Two faculty groups were selected: (a) faculty who had previously retired from another position and (b) faculty members with no plans to retire in the next three years. The non-financial factors were identified through a review of the literature and included (a) employment characteristics, (b) demographic characteristics, (c) activity measures, and (d) satisfaction items. The study was based on secondary analysis of NSOPF: 99 data. A combination of descriptive statistics and logistic regression was used to analyze the data. Major findings include (a) previously retired faculty members may be a substantial pool of qualified, productive talent intrinsically motivated to be part of an academic environment on a part-time basis because their financial status is not solely dependent on basic salary from the institution; (b) additional indicators distinguishing age at retirement from a career position versus age at retirement from all paid employment may also be needed to fully describe the issue; (c) employment status, years in current position, program area, age, gender, geographic region, average class size, and satisfaction with other aspects of the job (excluding instructional duties) were distinguishing characteristics of previously retired faculty members; (d) a sizeable portion of older faculty has not yet reached traditional retirement age; (e) the impact of uncapping mandatory retirement ages for tenured faculty may not have yet been fully realized — even eight years after the legislation took effect; (f) evidence does not support some of the objections from the higher education community in opposition to uncapping; and (g) control of institution, program area, years in current position, age, marital status, number of dependents, recent publications, career publications, and satisfaction were distinguishing characteristics of faculty members with no plans to retire in the next three years. / Ph. Revegetation of Retired Farmland: Evaluation of Six Range Grasses Under Three Irrigation Regimes

Thacker, Gary W., Cox, Jerry R. 09 1900 (has links)
In July of 1986 and 1987, we seeded bufelgrass, kleingrass, 'Catalina' lovegrass, "Cochise" lovegrass, bottlebrush, and sideoats grama grass on retired farmland in the Avra Valley west of Tucson. We seeded these grasses under three irrigation regimes: no establishment irrigation, two establishment irrigations, and four establishment irrigations. Establishment irrigations significantly increased the forage production of the grasses in the first two years of the 1986 planting and in the first year of the 1987 planting. Buffelgrass, kleingrass, and the lovegrasses appear to be promising species for vegetative cover on retired farmland.

Revegetation of Retired Farmland: Response of Fourwing Saltbush to Establishment Irrigation and Weeding

Thacker, Gary W. 09 1900 (has links)
This is an experiment on seeding fourwing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) in 80-inch wide waterharvesting microcatchments on retired farmland west of Tucson. At 32 months after planting plots that received the establishment irrigation had more cover than unirrigated plots. Keeping plots free of competing weeds also gave some advantage. However, the coefficient of variation was very high, and none of these differences was statistically significant.

General Recommendations for Establishing a Permanent Vegetative Cover on Retired Farmland

Thacker, Gary W., Cox, Jerry R. 09 1900 (has links)
A permanent vegetative cover should be established on farmland before retirement. After four years of research, we recommend 1. Work with the fanner while he is still on the land; 2 Furrow the land into 38 or 40 -inch beds; 3. Plant adapted species; and 4. Apply establishment irrigations.

Revegetation of Retired Farmland: Evaluation of Eight Range Grasses

Thacker, Gary W., Cox, Jerry R. 09 1900 (has links)
In July of 1988, we planted eight range grass species on retired farmland in the Avra Valley west of Tucson. In November of 1989, Arabian yellow bluestem, kleingrass, buffelgrass, "Catalina" lovegrass, and bermudagrass all yielded over 1000 Kg /Ha of oven dry forage "Cochise" lovegrass yielded 889 Kg /Ha, sideoats grama grass yielded 126 Kg /Ha, and bottlebrush yielded 86 Kg /Ha.

Revegetation of Retired Farmland: Response of Range Grasses to Establishment Irrigations and Microcatchment Water Harvesting

Thacker, Gary W., Cox, Jerry R. 09 1900 (has links)
In July 1987, we began an experiment to evaluate the effects of water harvesting and establishment irrigations on range grasses on retired farmland In the first two years since establishment, we measured significantly higher forage production where we applied establishment irrigations. After three years, the difference from irrigation was no longer significant. We have not detected any significant differences in forage production due to water harvesting treatments.
