Robb White's life and works

Unknown Date (has links)
"Because of the interest of her reading public in Robb White's books, the writer in search of a topic for a Master's paper, decided she would like to know more about his life and works. Such a study was felt to be worthwhile in that it would give opportunity for the compiling and assembling, in the absence of adequate biographical and bibliographical materials, those data on White that do exist. Furthermore, it would contribute toward bibliographic competency, an essential in librarianship, and it would serve as a technique to be employed in the future in giving background information on authors of other children's books"--Introduction. / Carbon copy of typescript. / "February, 1957." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Robert G. Clapp, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 68-78).

Doug Wilder's first year as Lieutenant Governor

Craddock, Tyler Hunt 09 May 2009 (has links)
In 1989, L. Douglas Wilder became the first black American to be elected Governor in any state when he was elected Governor of Virginia. His victory was the fruit of labors that spanned a twenty-year political career. He entered politics at a time when Virginia was emerging from the control of a political machine headed by Harry Byrd, Sr. The win in 1989 was the direct result of Wilder being able to position himself while serving as the Commonwealth's Lieutenant Governor. Specifically crucial was Wilder's first year in office. During that period, he was able to establish himself as an independent voice. In doing so, he distanced himself from the questionable policies of Governor Gerald Baliles. Wilder's boldness deterred others from challenging his nomination in 1989. In addition, Wilder demonstrated that he could overcome political troubles, such as criticism he received for accepting speaking fees from in-state organizations. Wilder's success can be explained by a marketing theory known as positioning. That theory holds that politicians have to create an independent position in the public eye. In doing so, the candidate may have to reinvent himself or herself to appeal to the widest range of voters. / Master of Arts

Directing For the Small Professional Theatre: Directing "Nothing Sacred"

Williams, Robert Hunter 01 January 2008 (has links)
The challenges of producing and directing small professional theatre in any metropolitan area are many. This thesis is concerned with the process of finding a producing theatre, casting, rehearsal and staging the play, "Nothing Sacred" by George F. Walker, in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Unlike many thesis projects this one was conducted completely outside of the university setting and is thus a true reflection of the small professional theatre community.

Unraveling the evolution of moral panic: A comparative analysis of school shootings

Webb, Jiavonna Devine 13 August 2024 (has links) (PDF)
School shootings in the United States have garnered significant attention. Since 1999, several high-profile school shootings have taken place across the U.S. in Connecticut, Virginia, Florida, etc. The phenomenon of school shootings and the resultant moral panic is explored by examining media coverage to understand how the media contributes to public responses to these tragic incidents. Although school shootings tend to receive attention, we do not know how this attention can differ across school shootings. This study uses the moral panic framework to assess how national newspaper coverage portrays the Sandy Hook Elementary and Robb Elementary school shootings. I find that the media discourse differs between the two shootings considerably when assessing each attribute of the moral panic framework. This is important as school shootings are reported differently, thus changing public perception. I argue that the level of panic we’ve seen after previous school shootings such as Columbine has decreased.
