To live and die on Tranquility Lane : the participatory narrative and satire of <i>Fallout 3</i>

This article focuses on 1950s American iconography and the players participation in <i>Fallout 3</i>s central storyline to explore the satire of <i>Fallout 3</i>. My approach goes beyond Marcus Schulzkes argument that <i>Fallout 3</i> is a morality simulator, which falls into a tradition of non-narrative approaches to studying videogames. Rather than concede that all videogames are a pariah to a traditional media narrative ecology, consisting of novels, movies, and theatre, I claim that <i>Fallout 3</i> is both simulation and narrative. Under this framework, I investigate a critique on war, in relation to the games ridicule of the idea of a 1950s American golden age. The central story episode, Tranquility Lane, where the player is trapped in a simulation of a 1950s suburbia is the primary focus, and its Rockwellian imagery is explored in relation to the <i>Fallout</i> universes post-apocalyptic setting to provide a commentary that works in opposition to the radio propaganda of the artificial intelligence John Henry Eden. In relation to this analysis, I consider Jean Baudrillards notion of simulacra, Mary Caputis analysis of neo-conservatism in America, and the idea of free will for the inhabitants of Tranquility Lane and the player. I show that the narrative requirements constrain the players free will in the simulated open world environment and that the player is essentially in the same position as the inhabitants of Tranquility Lane. As such, I argue that behind the simulation of the <i>Fallout</i> universe is a critique of war in our universe.

Development of a Fuzzy Logic Controller for a Distillation Column using Rockwell Software

In this thesis, an alternative control method based on Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) is proposed to keep the product composition of a distillation column constant. This study compares a proposed FIS to traditional PID (proportional, integral, derivative) control technique and analyzes the results. The FIS is applied to the control of the tray temperature of the distillation column by using indirect feed split control structure to modulate the steam flow with management of the tray temperature. In turn, this modulation maintains the composition of product at specified levels. Rockwell fuzzy designer is used to develop the fuzzy logic controller. Both a fuzzy logic controller and a PID controller are downloaded in the Rockwell ControlLogix L62 process controller. Chemstations Chemcad simulation software is used to run the distillation column simulations. Simulation results are programmed into L62 process controller to behave as a dynamic distillation column. Results show that the proposed fuzzy logic controller is more tolerant to disturbances in the feed flow and feed composition of the distillation column than the PID controller.

Utvärdering av korrelationen mellan sträckgräns och rockwell hårdhet för Ti-6Al-4V producerat med E-PBF

Detta projekt genomförs för att undersöka en möjlig metod vilket ger företaget AIM möjlighet att på egen hand testa kvaliteten på sina byggen med hjälp av korrelationen mellan materialets hårdhet samt dess sträckgräns. Där hårdheten kommer undersökas med Rockwell metoden och HRC skala samt sträckgränsen kommer undersökas med dragprov. Hårdhetsproverna kommer undersökas i tre olika stadier, obearbetade, kallslipade och slipade i en icke kyld slipprocess. Detta för att undersöka olika efterbearbetningsprocesser och vad de har för tillförlitlighet där i bästa av världar kan en efterbearbetningsprocess undvikas. Resultatet för provstavarna var väntat med ett sjunkande medelvärde på sträckgränsen desto högre upp i byggkammaren provstaven var tillverkad. Där lägsta nivån H0 1018,49 MPa, mellersta nivån H1 976,83 MPa och för den översta nivån H2 941,64 MPa. Detta gav en sänkning på ungefär 40 MPa per nivå. Hårdheten då proverna var kylt slipade var medelvärdena H0 37,79, H1 37,1 och för H2 37,47. Vilket gav en tendens på sänkning för lager H0 och H1 dock en höjning igen för det översta lagret H2. Vilket då inte visade exakt samma tendens som sträckgränsern. De individuella proverna för obearbetat stadie var standardavvikelsen hög generellt över 2, då proverna kallslipats sjunk standardavvikelserna för lager H0 och H2 till under 1 medan lager H1 låg mellan 1 och 1,5. Även då de slipats i den varma processen gav det lägre standardavvikelser dock inte fullt lika låga som för en kylt slipade. Dessa resultat lades samman och med dess medelvärden beräknades en kx+m formel ut med hjälp av skillnaden i x-led samt y-led för att beräkna lutningskoefficienten k. Då formeln beräknades med lager H0 samt H1 blev resultatet y=61*X-1285. Att mäta är att jämföra verklighet med en fördefinierad enhet. En sekund, en meter, ett watt är några exempel på enheter som brukas för att kunna definiera en mätning. I dagens samhälle är det viktigt med exakt mätning för att kunna till exempel producera rätt tjänst i rätt tid, just in time, för att kunna utnyttja sina resurser effektivt. Detta innebär högre förtjänst med minimal insats, vilket gagnar både producent och konsument som använder denna tjänst. / Since time immemorial, people have been involved with the measurement of various kinds. Time, length, height, area, energy, volume and strength are some examples of what needed to be saturated. To measure is to compare the reality with a predefined unit.  One second, one meter, a watt is a few examples of devices that used to define a measurement. In today's society, it is important to have accurate measurements to be able, for example, produce the right services at the right time, just in time, to utilize their resources effectively. This means higher profits with minimal effort, which will benefit both producers and consumers who use this service.
