High palaeolatitude record of Late Maastrichtian-Early Danian climate change, Seymour Island, Antarctica

Frost, Peter Alan January 2017 (has links)
The Latest Cretaceous period was characterised by global cooling, superimposed on this pattern of climate change were perturbations in global climate. In high palaeolatitude settings in the Southern Hemisphere short term glacial episodes may have occurred through the latest Cretaceous. The extensive sedimentary succession within the James Ross Basin, Antarctica, provided an opportunity to test the possibility of late Cretaceous glaciation in particular through the succession exposed on Seymour Island. A high resolution oxygen and carbon stable isotope record through the Late Maastrichtian – Early Danian was generated by analysing diagenetically unaltered aragonite nacre shell material from a molluscan fauna collected from the López de Bertodano Fm., part of the Marambio Group present on Seymour Island, Antarctica. The Marambio Group forms an extensive 1100 m thick Late Maastrichtian section that crops out over ~70 km2 of the southernmost part of the island. Coverage of stable isotope data for the measured stratigraphy was good with 213 screened analyses that included data from within 1 m of the K-Pg boundary located at 1029 m above datum, determined from the first occurrence of the dinoflagellate cyst Senegalinium obscurum. Stable isotope data (‰ VPDB) for primary aragonite from bivalves, cephalopods and gastropods exhibited screened stable isotope data ranges of -0.06 to +2.05‰ for δ18O and -7.54 to +3.7‰ for δ13C. Data showed that at individual stratigraphic levels the range in measured δ18O exhibited significant variability. Benthic specimens provided the majority of the stable isotope data, bivalves exhibited the widest range of δ18O and δ13C values. Data show that individual specimens from the same genus can exhibit significant variability for δ18O and δ13C and that analysis of single samples at discrete stratigraphic levels may provide an erroneous interpretation of climate change. Higher oxygen isotope values were seen mid-section and complement previous records of periods of cooler climate identified from palynology, clumped isotopes and sea level. Palaeotemperatures were calculated for δ18O values for a seawater composition of SMOW = -1.0‰, representing an ice free ocean, 6 to 14°C for bivalves, 9 to 12°C for gastropods and 9 to 15°C for cephalopods. Temperatures indicated relatively stable benthic temperatures (~10°C) with a cooling phase that commenced at ~450 m (~69.5 Ma) with the coolest temperatures developed at ~630 m (~69 Ma). Cooling trends showed a good correlation with the position of seawater lowstands. Thereafter temperatures recovered towards the K-Pg boundary before a cooling trend developed that closely correlated with the PaDa1 lowstand. Acceptance of Deccan Traps volcanism as a causal mechanism for the limited degree of observed warming close to the K-Pg event was limited by a lack of suitable specimens.

Analýza podmínek chovu u brojlerů kuřat s přihlédnutím k mikroklimatickým podmínkám při řízeném režimu / Analysi breeding condition in broiler chickens taking into account the microclimatic condition in controlled mode.

SVOBODA, Zdeněk January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is focused on the assessment of production of broiler chickens te. hybrids ROSS and COBB 308 500, in connection with the microclimate conditions in the period from 2011 to 2014. The survey provides calculation of average lengths of broiler fattening, live weight of broiler chickens at the end of the batch, consumption of complete feed mixture for 1 kg of live weight gain, the effectiveness index of fattening, mortality to reproductive breeding age on. The juxtaposition of these zootechnical parameters will be obtained from the company Tagrea s.r.o. with operations in Čekanice near Tabor.

Hodnocení výkrmu kuřat s využitím nášlapných vah

Bendeová, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis was to evaluate the data gained from a weighine-machine located right in the hall of the selected company. The weighine-machine together with thermometer and hygrometer measures the weight of chickens, numbers of chickens weighed, temperature, humidity and uniformity. The data acquired about the given batches are from September 2014 to March 2016 from both types of hybrids. The results show that hybrid ROSS 308 occurred more often above the growth curve, in summer months it had better daily weight gain and the highest uniformity. Hybrid COBB 500 had better increase in winter and its uniformity was higher in temporary and winter period. According to the correlation analysis, the fact was confirmed, that with the growing weight the number of chickens lowers. The average mortality was around 3 %, the exception was the batch 6/2015 when the mortality was 4,8 %.

Vliv výlisků ostropestřece mariánského v krmné směsi brojlerových kuřat na sensorickou jakost masa

Sedláčková, Kateřina January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this diploma was evaluate the effect of feeding milk thistle (Silybum marianum L.) seed cakes on sensoric quality of broiler chickens meat. The experimental groups of broiler ROSS 308 received feed mixtures containing 0 % (C - control), 5 % (MT5) and 15 % (MT15) of milk thistle seed cakes. The chickens were fattened on conventional deep litter system. The trial lasted 37 days. Sensory analysis of breast and thigh muscle samples was evaluated in special sensory laboratory (Department of Food Technology, Mendel university in Brno) according ISO 8589. Breast meat was significantly (P < 0,05) rated as the best in parameter flavour in C (control) and MT15 group. The thigh meat was evaluated significantly (P < 0,05) best for colour and fibreness parameters in MT15 group. The addition of milk thistle seed cakes do not worsened sensory characteristic of breast or thigh meat of broilers and reflects standard sensory quality traits.

Hodnocení užitkových vlastností potomstva brojlerových slepic

MASÁROVÁ, Anna January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis was to evaluate the performance of commercial broiler chicken genotypes Ross 308, Cobb 500 and Hubbard F15. Parental test consisted of parent rearing up to the age of 22 weeks, the laying period up to the age of 62 weeks and from fattening progeny tests (lasting for 35 days or else 42 days). Hybrid Ross 308 chickens reached the highest live weight at the end of the rearing period. Hubbard F15 chickens had the lowest feed consumption per head and day and also the lowest mortality rate. Hybrid Hubbard F15 showed the highest number of hatched chickens per 1 laying hen (137.2 pcs), the lowest feed consumption per head and day (149.4 g) and the highest fertility of hatching eggs (9,2 %). Hybrid Ross 308 showed the highest weight of hatching eggs and live weight at the end of the laying period (cockerels 5 029 g, pullets 4 310 g). Cobb 500 cockerels (2 397 g) and Hubbard F 15 pullets (2 145 g) showed the highest live weight during the 35 day fattening period. The highest breast weight was at the hybrid Cobb 500 (516.9 g) and the thighs weight was the highest at Hubbard F15 (511.9 g). The highest carcass yield was observed at hybrid Cobb 500 (76.30%). During the extended fattening period of 42 days had the highest live weight cockerels Ross 308 (3 096 g), Cobb 500 and Hubbard F15 pullets (2 688 g and 2 682 g). The highest breast weight was observed at hybrid Ross 308 (697.0 g) and thighs weight at hybrid Hubbard F15 (707.6 g). The highest carcass yield was at hybrid Hubbard F15 (78.0%).

The history of Pirie Mission and amaHleke chiefdom

Vazi, Clifford Mlandeli January 1989 (has links)
This thesis deals with the history of the amaHleke people and Pirie Mission, which have become so closely associated that they cannot be separated. It covers the period from the time of Chief Hleke to 1967, the year in which the amaHleke cheiftainship was resuscitated. The first chapter relates the origin of the amaHleke, from the time of Hleke himself (17th century) to Jwarha (about 1820). It explains the relationship between the different branches of the Hleke royal line, and it covers the Hleke settlement at the Mgqakhwebe river. The second chapter deals with the establishment of Pirie Mission by the Presbyterian missionaries John and Bryce Ross. It discusses the various aspects of the mission operation, and explains why and how the amaHleke opposed it. But the situation changed as a result of the 1850-3 Frontier War. Whereas the other Xhosa were expelled from their lands, the Hleke connection with Pirie Mission enabled them to stay on. The Hleke were therefore united with the mission, whether they liked it or not. The remainder of the chapter describes the educational and cultural changes which the mission imposed on them. The third chapter covers economic change at Pirie. Like other mission stations, it was converted from communal to individual land tenure. This was opposed by Chief Jwarha as a blow to his authority, but it did not result in the growth of a peasant class. The chapter concludes with the implementation of betterment in 1963. The fourth chapter explains what happened to the mission after the death of Bryce Ross. The Ross missionaries had frustrated black aspirations in teh church. This was especially frustrating to Burnet and Ntsikana Gaba, the great-grandsons of the prophet Ntsikana. Burnet broke away under the banner of the "Wee Free" branch of the Church of Scotland. This church also could not accommodate Burnet's aspirations. The remainder of the chapter deals with educational developments, with an emphasis on the introduction of Bantu Education. The last chapter deals with the political history of Pirie after the death of Chief Jwarha. The Cape government tried to replace chieftainship by a headman and a Village Management Board. But the Board did not function satisfactorily, and it was scrapped in 1921. Pirie continued to be administered by headmen. Applications for the revival of chieftainship were turned down, partly because there was no agreement on Jwarha's heir. However, this was finally resolved in 1967 with the appointment of Chief Pani Busoshe.
