Factores Sociodemográficos Asociados al Nivel de Conocimientos y Actitudes Hacia la Sexualidad de los Adolescentes del Nivel Secundario de la Institución Educativa Don José de San Martin

Ferreyra Canales, Heydi Nadeira 17 September 2013 (has links)

Studies on the Secondary Metabolites from the Formosan Soft Coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi

Hsieh, Mu-Keng 11 September 2012 (has links)
In the course of studying on secondary metabolites from marine organisms, we have investigated the chemical constituents of the soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi collected at San-Hsien-Tai, Taitong County, Taiwan. Chromatographic separation of the organic extracts has led to the isolation of nine new cembrane diterpenes 1¡V9, and a initial natural separation of known cembrane diterpene 10. The chemical structures of pure compounds were determined by spectral (NMR, MS, UV and IR) and physical data, as well as comparison with the spectroscopic data of related chemicals in literature. Moreover, the metabolites 1¡V10 were evaluated in vitro for their cytotoxicity against of A-549 (human lung epithelial carcinoma), HT-29 (human colon adenocarcinoma), and P-388 (mouse lymphocytic leukemia) cells, as well as anti-HCMV activity. Compounds 3, 6, 9, and 10 were shown to exhibit significant cytotoxicity activities against P-388 with ED50 values of 2.7, 3.6, 2.0, and 3.0 £gg/mL, respectively. Compound 1, 2, 3, and 7 exhibited inhibitory activity against anti-HCMV, with EC50 values of 60.0, 46.0, 5.0, and 45.0 £gg/mL.

Effect of Water Education on Reducing Residential Consumption in San Antonio, Texas

Rice, Jeremy Joseph 2009 August 1900 (has links)
Education is touted as one of the most effective and inexpensive measures for reducing water consumption for major cities. Coupled with additional water reducing strategies this education can have a significant impact. While, this is a generally accepted principle in the water resources community it has been difficult to accurately quantify the savings. Studies attempting to quantify reductions from these programs have been limited to small samples of neighborhoods. San Antonio is recognized as one of the leading conservation programs in the country at reducing the consumption of its customers. This study focused on over 3,000 customers in San Antonio who were classified as high-end users. The average monthly consumption for this group in June of 2006 exceeded 60,000 gallons per month. Each customer was sent an educational packet by mail with information to conduct an audit of the water use indoors and outdoors. Many of the customers used a free service allowing a trained professional of the San Antonio Water System to conduct their audit at no charge. Three groups were identified (1) those who received a educational packet, (2) those who conducted a home audit and reported they had conducted an audit, (3) those who had a free audit conducted by a trained technician. The water consumption for six months was tracked and compared to the previous year's consumption. Each of the three groups showed savings with those in the third group showing the greatest savings. Lastly, a cost analysis was conducted showing the effectiveness of the program in reducing consumption by cost.

The Fabric of Clasts, Veins and Foliations within the Actively Creeping Zones of the San Andreas Fault at SAFOD: Implications for Deformation Processes

Sills, David Wayne 2010 December 1900 (has links)
Recovered core samples from the San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth (SAFOD), located near Parkfield, CA, offer a unique opportunity to study the products of faulting and to learn about the mechanisms of slip at 3 km depth. Casing deformation reflects active creep along two strands of the San Andreas Fault (SAF) at SAFOD. The two fault strands are referred to as the Southwest Deforming Zone (SDZ) at 3194 m measured depth (MD) and the Central Deforming Zone (CDZ) at 3301 m MD. The SDZ and CDZ contain remarkably similar gouge layers, both of which consist of a clay-bearing, ultrafine grain matrix containing survivor clasts of sandstone and serpentinite. The two gouges have sharp boundary contacts with the adjacent rocks. We have used X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) imaging, at two different sampling resolutions, to investigate the mesoscale and microscale structure of the fault zone, specifically to characterize the shape, preferred orientation, and size distribution of the survivor clasts. Using various image processing techniques, survivor clast shape and size are characterized in 3D by best-fit ellipsoids. Renderings of survivor clasts illustrate that survivor clasts have fine tips reminiscent of sigma type tails of porphyroclasts observed in myolonites. The resolution of the XCT imaging permits characterization of survivor clasts with equivalent spherical diameters greater than 0.63 mm. The survivor clast population in both the SDZ and CDZ gouge layers have similar particle size distributions (PSD) which fit a power law with a slope of approximately -3; aspect ratio (major to minor axis ratios) distributions also are similar throughout ranging between 1.5 and 4, with the majority occurring between 2-2.5. The volume- and shape- distributions vary little with position across the gouge zones. A strong shape preferred orientation (SPO) exists in both creeping zones. In both the SDZ and CDZ the minor axes form a SPO approximately normal to the plane of the San Andreas Fault (SAF), and the major axes define a lineation in the plane of the SAF. The observation that the size-, shape- and orientation-distributions of mesoscale, matrix-supported clasts are similar in the SDZ and CDZ gouge layers, and vary little with position in each gouge layer, is consistent with the hypothesis that aseismic creep in the SDZ and CDZ is achieved by distributed, shearing. The consistency between the SPO and simple-shear, strike-slip kinematics, and the marked difference of PSD, fabric, cohesion and clast lithology of the gouge with that of the adjacent rock, is consistent with the hypothesis that the vast majority of the shear displacement on the SAF at SAFOD is accommodated within the gouge layers and the gouge displays a mature, nearly steady-state structure.

Bazán Bravo, Sara Carolina January 2010 (has links)
