DETERMINATION DE LA COMPOSITION DES SURFACES PLANETAIRES PAR SPECTROSCOPIE GAMMA ET NEUTRONDiez, Benedicte 25 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
La mesure des flux de neutrons et de rayonnements gamma issus de l'interaction du rayonnement cosmique galactique avec les surfaces planétaires permet de contraindre la composition chimique des premières dizaines de centimètres de régolite. Deux angles d'approche de la spectroscopie neutron et gamma ont été abordés : le traitement des données et l'interprétation des résultats. Les études menées s'inscrivent dans le cadre de deux missions : le spectromètre neutron à bord de Mars Odyssey et le spectromètre gamma à bord de Selene. Une revue détaillée des opérations de réduction des données MONS est proposée. Le jeu de données résultant est utilisé pour déterminer la profondeur des dépôts d'hydrogène sous la surface martienne. Dans les régions dépourvues d'eau, les données neutron permettent de contraindre la concentration des éléments susceptibles d'interagir avec les neutrons. La confrontation de ces résultats avec ceux du spectromètre gamma à bord de Mars Odyssey permet d'éclairer le contexte géologique de la région de Central Elysium Planitia. Toutes ces problématiques martiennes sont suivies de l'étude des données gamma de Selene. Bien que seuls les traitements préliminaires aient été réalisés à ce jour, des cartes qualitatives des éléments majeurs (Fe, Ca, Si, Ti, Mg, K, Th, U) ont pu être extraites des données.

Phylogeography, phylogeny and population structure were studied in two similarly distributed butterflies, the Bog Fritillary (Boloria eunomia) and the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria selene). Sequences of mitochondrial gen for COI and nuclear Wingless and Arginine Kinase were used for analyses, for reconstruction of evolutionary relationships within both species and for comparison of phylogeography patterns.

Previous issue date: 2004-02-23 / Species of the Carangidae family are important components of fish fauna during all phases of the life span. Both Selene spixii (full moon fish) Spix and Agassiz (1831) and Selene Vomer (Atlantic look down) Linnaeus (1758) range in the Western Atlantic Ocean from New Scotia (Canada) to South America including the Gulf of Mexico. They are found in coastal shallow waters, either on hard or sandy bottoms. They usually establish schoals, but are also observed in small groups or pairs. They feed on small crustaceans, shrimps, fish and worms. Their flesh tastes good; these species are trade fresh. They can also be reared, they are highly prized in sport fishing. Both species are very similar in early phases of their life cycle, which renders the identification at the species level quite difficult. The aim of the present study was to carry out analyses of the pattern of morphological differentiation between the above mentioned species of Selene genre, using as method 1, techniques of multivariate analysis of the 16 distances between landmarks, defined in the truss net; and as method 2, the relative warps analysis (thin plate spline function) on the coordinates of 9 landmarks. Morphometric data were obtained from scanner digitalized images and the coordinates of the landmarks by using tpsdigw program, the distances were obtained from a program developed in language C and the relative warps analysis from tpsRelw program. Similarities were discriminated between the studied species using both Principal Components Analysis, Canonic as well as Discriminant Analyses based on morphometric features. The landmarks usedwere: 1. tip of the nose, 2. base of pelvic fin, 3. beginning of the first dorsal fin, 4. beginning of anal fin, 5. beginning of the second dorsal fin, 6. end of anal fin, 7.end of the second dorsal fin, 8. beginning of lower caudal fin, 9. beginning of upper caudal fin. According to method 1, measures D 1-3 and D 3-4 were the most important whereas for method 2, among shape variations, the one which contributes the most was the component x. / Os Carangidae são importantes componentes da ictiofauna em todas as fases da vida e as espécies Selene spixii (Lua-do-Caribe) Spix e Agassiz (1831) e Selene vomer (galo–de-penacho) Linnaeus (1758) estão distribuídas pelo Atlântico Oeste de Nova Escócia (Canadá) ao longo das costas do Golfo do México até a América do Sul. Esses peixes são encontrados em águas rasas costeiras, sobre fundos duros ou arenosos. Vivem em cardumes, mas também podem ser observados em pequenos grupos ou em pares. Alimentam-se de pequenos caranguejos, camarões, peixes e poliquetas. Sua carne apresenta um sabor excelente, sendo comercializado fresco. Estes peixes podem ser cultivados em aquários, são valorizados na pesca esportiva, e ambas espécies apresentam grande semelhança na fase jovem o que dificulta a identificação. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar os padrões de diferenciação morfológicos entre as espécies do gênero Selene, utilizando como método 1, técnicas de análise multivariada das 16 distâncias entre marcos anatômicos, definidas na rede de treliças; e como método 2, a análise de deformações relativas (função thin plate spline) sobre as coordenadas de 9 marcos anatômicos. Os dados morfométricos foram obtidos em imagens digitalizadas por scanner, as coordenadas dos marcos anatômicos pelo programa tpsDig, as distâncias obtidas por programa desenvolvido em linguagem C e a análise de deformações relativas através do programa tpsRelw. Pretendeu-se discriminar similaridades entre as duas espécies por meio de Componentes Principais, Análise de Variáveis Canônicas e Análise Discriminante com base em características morfométricas. Foram utilizados os seguintes marcos anatômicos: 1. ponta do focinho; 2. base da nadadeira ventral (pélvica); 3. início da primeira nadadeira dorsal; 4. início da nadadeira anal; 5. início da segunda nadadeira dorsal; 6. final da nadadeira anal; 7. final da segunda nadadeira dorsal; 8. início da nadadeira caudal inferior; 9. início da nadadeira caudal superior. No método 1, as medidas D 1-3 e D 3-4 foram as mais importantes, enquanto que no método 2, dentre as variações de forma, a que mais contribuiu foi a componente uniforme x.

Contribution to Heat and Mass Transfer for Space ExperimentsTzevelecos, Wassilis 20 April 2018 (has links) (PDF)
This manuscript has been realized in the frame of SELENE experiment research activities. SELENE is the ac-ronym of Self-rewetting fluids for ENErgy management and consists of a space project aiming to investigate heat and mass transfer phenomena in mono-groove configuration with self-rewetting fluids (SRFs). Self-rewetting fluids are mixture showing an anomalous trend of surface tension with temperature, an inversion of the surface tension slope after certain temperature. As consequence, when the minimum in surface ten-sion is crossed, surface tension gradient at the meniscus interface pulls the liquid towards the warmest region, preventing hot spots. This mechanism is completely spontaneous and has an interesting potential when applied to heat transfer applications as heat pipes (HPs). In HPs heat is removed by the liquid at the warmest region (the evaporator) and transported at the coldest zone (the condenser) by phase change; here, heat is removed by the pipe and dissipated outside through a radiator. To operate correctly, liquid is supplied to the evaporator by capillarity and the liquid vapour is allowed to flow back to condenser from a dedicated pipe region where liquid is not allowed. Vapour condensation releases at the condenser the heat to be dissipated. When SRFs are replacing working fluid in HP applications and temperatures are higher than the characteristic minimum in surface tension, capillary force is assisted by inverse Marangoni flow at the vapour-liquid interface.Since heat pipe performances are related to liquid supplied at the evaporator, in order to compare SRFs and not SRFs working fluids, it is needed to split the contribution of Marangoni and capillary force in the liquid flow. Marangoni effect is related to surface tension gradient that, in a mixture as SRF, is dependent on temperature and local composition at the liquid interface. For all these reasons, SELENE is designed to be the link between scientific research on HPs and heat transfer applications using SRFs. SELENE consists of a mono-groove with trapezoidal section that can be considered as a “clump” of an Inner Grooved Heat Pipe (IGHP) and, in order to split capillary and Marangoni contribution, it is integrated dedicated tools providing the required data in terms of concentration and liquid meniscus shape. Experimental data are used to build a simplified thermo-soluto-fluido dynamic model describing the thermo-mechanic mechanisms between the liquid bulk and the vapour flow. In the manuscript here presented it has been carried on a technology development of the required diag-nostics for the SELENE space project. The diagnostics have been designed to work in microgravity condi-tions even if they are tested on ground. As concentration diagnostic, in the text are proposed several tech-niques and more interest is spent on the adaptation of I-VED (In vivo Embolic Detection) technology meas-uring fluid AC impedance to retrieve composition information; the technology is not yet mature to be inte-grated in SELENE but it presents interesting features to be investigated in microgravity conditions. As me-niscus reconstruction technique it is proposed a new and innovative technology developed in the frame of the presented thesis and it consists of a non-intrusive optical technique aiming to retrieve liquid meniscus shape (and so curvature) from a single visualization window mounted at the top of the SELENE breadboard.An analytical approach aiming to retrieve a simplified mathematical model of the transfer mechanisms is also provided in the text. The analytical analysis clearly shows the relations between the experimental measured data and the velocity profiles in the liquid and vapour regions. In addition, since in SELENE exper-iment the heat conduction across the groove itself is not negligible, in the text it is provided a semi-empirical thermal model based on the Multi Lumped Model (MLM) theory and able to retrieve local heat exchanged information along the pipe length.
