Srovnání očekávání seniorů před a po nástupu do domova pro seniory / Comparing the expectations of seniors before and after joining the home for seniors

ŠKRDLOVÁ, Ludmila January 2018 (has links)
This work deals with changes in the expectations of seniors before and after joining the home for seniors. The aim of the research was to map out what ideas the elderly people come to and how they met their expectations after joining the home for the elderly. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and an empirical part. The first chapter of the theoretical part defines the concepts of age and aging, describes age-related changes, seniors' needs and possible ways of preparing and adapting to old age. The second chapter explains the concept of quality of life and its dimension, describes the factors that influence the quality of life and the methods of measurement. The conclusion of the second chapter deals with the quality of life of seniors. The third chapter describes the possibilities of caring for the elderly in the home and in the homes for the elderly. In the practical part, the aim of the thesis is set out and research questions are asked: "What do the seniors come to the home for seniors?" "In what areas did the expectations of the elderly after the admission into the home for seniors have been fulfilled?" The following is a description of the used method, research carried out by a qualitative survey, a semi-structured interview technique and document analysis. Research has shown that the most important areas for seniors' satisfaction are the feeling of peace, security and safety, care and relationships with loved ones. Senior citizens were provided with care by family members in conjunction with outreach care before entering the home for the elderly. Reasons for going home for seniors were reduced self-sufficiency and repeated falls. Some seniors came to the home for seniors with prejudices, but most knew the device from personal experience, positive narrative of clients' families or websites. Everyone expected them to be adequately cared for in their homes and that their safety would be ensured. They were afraid of the regime they would have to obey, the limitations of their space, and their relations with staff and roommates. The expectation of seniors has been fully satisfied, in most cases it has surpassed them. All seniors expressed higher satisfaction with care in the home for the elderly than in home care. They were particularly valued to ensure dignified and continuous care, respect for the privacy, expertise and professionalism of staff, their willingness to solve problematic situations by individual approach, warmth and human attitude. The results of this research can contribute to the destigmatization of homes for the elderly as a facility to live. The diploma thesis can thus be beneficial especially to seniors who are afraid of leaving home for the seniors and to remove the prejudices associated with entering the home for the elderly.

Bariéry ve vzdělávání seniorů / Barriers in the education of seniors

Bělková, Veronika January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis is concerned with the barriers to education for the elderly . In the theoretical part there is introduced the theoretical framework of gerontology as well as other related issues i.e. the ageing, old age, quality of life and different forms of education for older adults. The practical segment of the thesis deals with the actual research and summary of the data obtained by the survey. The survey encompasses multiple aspects such as gender, age or in particular the age distribution within the group of elderly learners, or their highest level of educational attainment. The research aims at discovering whether the level of education acquired by seniors previously in life could somehow influence their desire to learn more in old age. Therefore , if there exists a stronger tendency to engage in further education among the vocational, highschool or university graduates. Other perspectives of the research are the geographical location of learners, their field of study or their motives behind the participation in the University of the Third Age studies. The goal of the thesis is to find a wide spectrum of people who attend U3A and thus identify the barriers, which could have faced the ones who had chosen not to engage in further studies. Another goal is to present some information...

Trénování paměti u senirů / TRAINING MEMORY OF SENIORS

FORMÁNKOVÁ, Petra January 2009 (has links)
My graduation thesis focuses on training memory with senior citizens. The main aim of this work is to define methods, techniques and benefits of memory training for senior citizens. The first aim was to investigate if there was some memory training (i.e. which forms were applied, how often, what kind of education the persons conducting this form of activation had achieved) in rest homes in Strakonice District. The second aim was to find out how beneficial the memory training was from the point of view of senior people as well as from the point of view of workers carrying out memory training in old people's homes. The research was done in the Rest Home for Seniors in Blatná, in the Home of Restful Old Age of St. Anna in Sousedovice, in the Home for Seniors in Strakonice - Jezárky, in the Home for Seniors in Strakonice - Lidická and In the Home for Seniors in Vodňany. To get the necessary information I have chosen a semi-controlled interview, i.e. qualitative research. The research group consisted of 32 seniors participating in memory training courses and the other one of 7 memory trainers conducting memory training sessions in the homes for seniors in Strakonice District. The results of the research have been processed in the form of a case study.

Spokojenost klientů s poskytovanými službami v Domově pro seniory Máchova, Humpolec. / Satisfaction of the Customers of the Home for the Aged Humpolec with the services rendered.

JAKEŠOVÁ, Lucie January 2010 (has links)
The aim of a research in this graduation work was to find out how the clients of the Home for Seniors in Humpolec are satisfied with providing this social service. The target was mainly to map areas which are considered problematic by the social service users themselves. The Home for Seniors has resides in a building not originally determined for these purposes since 1962. The Home is currently trying, as many other institutions of social services, to comply with social services quality standards in unsuitable architectural conditions. Despite the users themselves gave their satisfaction with providing the social service, the research also resulted in listing a few problem areas. It was mainly the area of public services availability. Major reasons of respondents dissatisfaction in this area were architectural barriers that make their full participation in everyday life impossible. Another problem areas were keeping privacy on users rooms, mainly at moments of carrying on personal hygiene, approachability of sanitary facilities from users rooms, and to a less extent an area of meals or coexistence. I expected areas of meals and accomodations to be the most urgent of the services provided. Although my assumption was wrong, according to the results of the performed research, certain problems in this area may be taken into account. The results of the research also indicate that improvement in the users satisfaction with the services provided would require bigger system changes, that are nowadays unfortunately impossible from many obvious reasons. However, in the future is possible to expect the area of residential social services to undergo transformation in harmony with social services quality standards towards the services of better quality and higher evaluation.

College Choice in the Philippines

Tan, Christine Joy 05 1900 (has links)
This descriptive and correlational study examined the applicability of major U.S. college choice factors to Philippine high school seniors. A sample of 226 students from a private school in Manila completed the College Choice Survey for High School Seniors. Cronbach's alpha for the survey composite index was 0.933. The purposes of this nonexperimental, quantitative study were (1) to describe the relative importance of major college choice factors (as identified in U.S. research) to Philippine high school seniors, and (2) to determine whether there were statistically significant differences in the importance ascribed to these factors, according to students' demographic attributes. For all statistical analyses, SPSS 16.0 software was used. To address the first purpose, the mean and standard deviation were calculated for each college choice factor addressed in the survey. To address the second purpose, ANOVAs, Mann-Whitney U tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were run, in order to study the relationship between each of the major college choice factors and students' demographic attributes. This study found that all of the major U.S. college choice factors were important, to some degree, in the Philippine context. Other factors were added based on pilot studies. This study also found that some of the U.S.-literature-generated demographic choice attributes functioned similarly in the Philippine setting (e.g. academic ability, gender), while others did not (e.g. educational level of fathers and of mothers). Moreover, students' academic ability was the primary demographic attribute, accounting for statistically significant differences in assessment of the importance of college choice factors for most (12 out of 13) of the factors. The major U.S. college choice factors appear to be important to Philippine private high school students. Two choice attributes (academic ability, gender) appear to apply to private high school students in the Philippines, while the attributes of father's and mother's education levels do not appear to apply. Among Philippine private high school students, academic ability may account for differences in assessment of the importance of college choice factors. Using a survey method alone to study college choice is limiting. Future studies should utilize a variety of methods to collect data and should involve several schools.
