Using Simulink to Develop a One-Dimensional, Two-Phase Fluid Model

Yarrington, James Edward 04 February 2014 (has links)
In this thesis, a one-dimensional, two-fluid model is developed in MATLAB-Simulink. The model features a mass, momentum, and energy balance for each fluid--an ideal gas and an incompressible liquid. The simulation may model a straight pipe section, or a pipe section that involves a cross-sectional area change. Rough models of interphase heat transfer and interphase friction are included. Currently, phase change is not modeled in the simulation Also, a single-fluid model was developed before the two-fluid model, as an intermediate step in developing the two-fluid model. The single-phase simulation applies a mass, momentum, and energy balance for the single fluid, and ideal gas. The single-fluid model was validated by incompressible flow, Fanno flow, and isentropic flow models. The incompressible model demonstrated the simulations ability to properly balance pressure and frictional forces. The Fanno flow model showed that the simulation could capture compressibility effects. The isentropic flow model validation verified that the simulation could model area change properly. The two-fluid model was validated using the Homogeneous Equilibrium Model (HEM). An analytical model of HEM flow with frictional pressure drop was developed to compare against the simulation results. To achieve the HEM, interphase effects were tuned so that the liquid and gas phases had similar temperatures and velocities. Under these conditions, the simulation matched the analytical model. The thesis goal is to create a solid foundation for an open-source, one-dimensional, two-fluid model that is easier to use and modify than current nuclear system analysis software. / Master of Science

Sauer, J., Hoppe, F., Bruhm, H. 12 February 2024 (has links)

Simulink Based Modeling of a Multi Global Navigation Satellite System

Mukka, Nagaraju 12 1900 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to design a model for a multi global navigation satellite system using Simulink. It explains a design procedure which includes the models for transmitter and receiver for two different navigation systems. To overcome the problem, where less number of satellites are visible to determine location degrades the performance of any positioning system significantly, this research has done to make use of multi GNSS satellite signals in one navigation receiver.

Steiner, Eduardo Miranda 22 March 2012 (has links)
Uma comparação entre as ferramentas Pure::variants e Hephaestus é apresentada / Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are aircrafts that can fly without any crew and are capable to realize several types of missions such as surveillance, topographic data collection and environmental monitoring. This is a domain which can benefit very much with the adoption of the Software Product Lines (SPL) approach, as each UAV model is rich in variabilities and has many common parts. In this work it is presented a software asset configuration infrastructure for the Simulink environment, managed by the tools Pure::variants and Hephaestus for a UAV SPL. A set of patterns of variability specification in Simulink is proposed as well as an extension to Hephaestus to support a SPL product engineering for Simulink. A comparison between Pure::variants and Hephaestus is also presented

Takiy, Aline Emy. January 2010 (has links)
Basically, in the optical interferometer, information about the device under test modulates the phase of light. Using a photodiode, promotes the transfer of information from the optical domain for the electric, which can be demodulated using the various techniques available in literature to detect modulated signals in phase. Emphasis is given to a new method of phase demodulation of optical self-consistent and high sensitivity. The method employs a linear modulation given by a triangular waveform, and is based on analysis of the spectrum of the photodetected signal, being able to extend the dynamic range of the demodulation values as high as the classical methods. Dynamic computational simulations of optical interferometers are implemented in Simulink with this method, taking into account strains of electronic noise like white noise, indicating the efficiency of the method compared with theoretical data obtained in Matlab workspace. The experimental validation of the method is performed with the aid of an electro- optic amplitude modulator, whose phase characteristics can be analytically predicted. This is a polarimetric sensor based on lithium niobate crystal, in which the optical phase difference induced by electric voltage can be determined by spectral analysis, using new method described in this work. A low cost homodyne Michelson interferometer is implemented and the efficiency of the new method of optical phase demodulation is evaluated by testing with piezoelectric flextensional actuators whose characteristics of linearity are well known. The experimental results agree with theoretical analysis and reveal this method is more efficient than the classical methods / Mestre
