Future time perspective and satisfaction with life across Iife span / Perspectiva temporal futura y satisfacción con la vida a lo largo del ciclo vitalMartínez, Patricia 25 September 2017 (has links)
The present research studies Satisfaction with Life and Future Time Perspective, in itsdifferent dimensions (goals, temporal location of goals and temporal altitudes), from adolescence to elder ages. This study evaluated 570 males and females between 16 and 65 years old, from two different socioeconomic levels in Lima, Peru, through a non experimental, evolutionary transversal design. Tools used in this research were the Motivational Induction Method (MIM) and the Temporal Altitudes Scale (TAS) by Nultin (1985), and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) by Pavot & Diener (1993). Results show that there are significan! differences on the construction and temporal Iocation of goals, altitudes towards present, past and future and in the levels of Life Satisfaction due to the variable age. lt was also found that socioeconomic leve! influences these processes more than gender.

Public service, private media: The political economy of the Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN) / Political economy of the Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN)Morris, Glenn Michael, 1974- 06 1900 (has links)
xi, 295 p. A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / The Satellite-Cable Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN) is the only television outlet in the U.S. providing Congressional coverage. Scholars have studied the network's public affairs content and unedited "gavel-to-gavel" style of production that distinguish it from other television channels. However, the network's ownership structure and funding, which are also unique, have not been systematically analyzed. This study fills a gap in C-SPAN scholarship by providing a structural analysis of the network.
C-SPAN was founded and is sponsored by the U.S. cable industry. The industry insists its support for the network is based on public service. However, this study reveals that C-SPAN affords the cable industry a number of substantial political economic benefits: a political lever in Washington and with local franchise authorities, a risk-free testing ground for new products and services, and assistance in selling subscriptions for other fee-based services. This study argues that these material benefits are the motivation for the cable industry's support, not public service.
It also is argued that C-SPAN can only be comprehensively understood through its relationship to the capitalist political economy of the U.S. To contextualize this relationship, the study provides a history of Congressional television, the cable industry, and satellite technology. These circumstances reveal that the network was less an act of individual cable executives' selfless altruism than a product of political pressures, economic realities, and technological breakthroughs.
The study also discusses the implications of a private public affairs network. C-SPAN is a perfect case study of what has been labeled "neoliberalism," or the form of global capitalism based on privatizing social services and regulating industry using rules favorable to the needs of capital, not civil, society. At a social level, the network enables the accumulation of wealth for a select few, enabling these private interests to gain social power. The study concludes that C-SPAN may serve the public, but it is not a public service. / Committee in charge: Janet Wasko, Chairperson, Journalism and Communication;

Características morfogênicas da pastagem de sorgo forrageiro submetido ao pastejo contínuo de novilhos de corte suplementados / Morphogenetic characteristics of sorghum forage submitted to the grazing continuous supplemented beef steersMartini, Ana Paula Machado 27 February 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Feed supplementation of the animals affects the pasture intake and may influence its productive and structural characteristics. Morphogenesis is a valuable tool for the dynamics understanding of the pasture, however the morphogenetic studies related to sorghum culture are still scarce as well as the evaluation of the supplementation effects on these characteristics. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the different levels of supplementation on the morphogenetic characteristics of sorghum forage (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) submitted to continuous grazing of beef steers. The experiment was performed at the Beef Cattle Laboratory of UFSM from January to April, 2013. Morphogenetic measures were taken by the marked tiller technique in order to determine the morphogenetic variables of sorghum forage. The completely randomized experimental design was used, with measures repeated in time, with three treatments and two repetitions (area) for the morphogenetic characteristics. The results of the morphogenetic variables were submitted to variance analysis with 5% of significance level using PROC MIXED. The analyses were performed with the assistance of the statistical package SAS 9.1.3 (2009). By increasing the supplementation level offered to the animals it was observed a lower value for the Number of Live Leafs (2.77, 3.34 and 3.55) and Leaf Elongation Rate (0.06, 0.09 and 0.08) characteristics. The variables Leaf Appearance Rate (0.0041, 0.0043 and 0.039), Leaf Senescence Rate (0.05, 0.06 and 0.11) and Phyllochron (283.96, 265.21 and 278.62) were not influenced by the different supplementation levels. There was a difference among the evaluation periods for the characteristics Leaf Life Span (1081.1, 986.25 and 788.79) and Leaf Elongation Length (350.58, 312.83 and 326.36). For the characteristics Canopy Height, Pseudo Stem Length, and Final Length of Blades there was an interaction between treatment and period.

The Utility of the Spatial Span from the Wechsler Memory Scales in a Geriatric Population with Cognitive ImpairmentsWiechmann, April 08 1900 (has links)
Performance on the Spatial Span subtest of the Wechsler Memory Scale has been viewed as an indicator of working memory and visuospatial processing. A number of factors including age and gender have been posited to effect performance on Spatial Span by older adults. The current study examined the impact of various forms of cognitive impairment and severity of impairment on Spatial Span performance. Five hundred thirty-eight individuals between the ages of 65 and 89 were evaluated in a university memory disorders clinic using a battery of neuropsychological tests that included Spatial Span. Participants were grouped by consensus diagnosis into type of cognitive impairment (Alzheimer's disease, vascular disease, amnestic mild cognitive impairment or non-amnestic mild cognitive impairment) or cognitively normal. As expected, an increase in severity of impairment results in a decrease in Spatial Span Total Score. Other findings included a weak relationship between age and Spatial Span Total Score. Gender, as well as age, did not fully account for the decline in Spatial Span Total Score. Spatial Span Forward score was not as good a predictor of severity in that reduction in score for Spatial Span Forward remains relatively stable regardless of level of impairment. Spatial Span Backward performance was found to be more sensitive to severity. No significant differences were found between performance of Alzheimer's disease and vascular disease suggesting they share similar deficit patterns with regard to the cognitive abilities measured by the Spatial Span subtest. A comparison between those diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment and individuals without such a diagnosis showed no significant difference suggesting that visuospatial processes are not affected early in the dementing process.

Studium jevů limitujících životnost sekundárních článků Ni-Zn / A Study of Phenomena that Limit the Life-Span of Ni-Zn Secondary CellsChladil, Ladislav January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation is focused on the study of selected additives and their effect on positive and negative electrodes of Ni-Zn secondary cells. The first group of additives consists of the inorganic compounds that reduce zinc oxide solubility and thus prevents shape changes of the zinc electrode. The second group contains organic additives that have the beneficial effect of dendrite growth prevention. All additives were examined in relationship to their compatibility with the positive electrode and to their effect on the zinc electrode dendrites inhibition, hydrogen evolution and corrosion inhibition. Moreover, the study of decomposition kinetics of supersaturated zincate solution with the first group of additives was performed. Finally, a short study of pulse regime charging mode with regard to dendrites inhibition was performed and evaluated.
