Ramos, Camila Davi 25 July 2017 (has links)
The EEG signal, whose information describes the electrical behavior of the cerebral cortex, although it is widely used for diagnoses, mainly of pathologies such as epilepsy, in Brazil it is still not usual to monitor the ICU environment in public hospitals. Considering this, and assuming that studies on normal EEG, registered in people without neurological problems, are scarce, the creation of a base of normal EEG registers and quantitative analysis of it is necessary so that, through the obtained results, Normal patterns can be established and through them, the identification of pathological parameters becomes more effective. In this project, an EEG database was developed, with 100 valid records from normal and healthy volunteers. In addition, from these records, the waking and closed eyes situation was analyzed under the aspect of three distinct quantifiers, being: Power Contribution Percentage (PCP), Median Frequency (FM) and Coherence, both evaluating the signal in the frequency domain. In order to obtain comparisons for the results obtained by the analysis of the normal EEG data, 128 EEG records were used in coma, with different types of etiologies and outcomes. The rhythms that presented the highest distinctions between normal and coma were Delta and Alpha, mainly for the FM quantifier. It was noted that PCP evaluated power characteristics and therefore synthesized the energy information of each brain rhythm in both normal EEG and EEG coma. Already FM brings information of values of frequencies in which there is greater concentration of power, and finally the quantifier coherence informs the degree of similarity between the right and left hemisphere of the brain. Thus, it was not possible to say which of the quantifiers presented better results, since each one is a distinct characterization. / Dissertação (Mestrado)

Towards Topography Characterization of Additive Manufacturing Surfaces

Vedantha Krishna, Amogh January 2020 (has links)
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is on the verge of causing a downfall to conventional manufacturing with its huge potential in part manufacture. With an increase in demand for customized product, on-demand production and sustainable manufacturing, AM is gaining a great deal of attention from different industries in recent years. AM is redefining product design by revolutionizing how products are made. AM is extensively utilized in automotive, aerospace, medical and dental applications for its ability to produce intricate and lightweight structures. Despite their popularity, AM has not fully replaced traditional methods with one of the many reasons being inferior surface quality. Surface texture plays a crucial role in the functionality of a component and can cause serious problems to the manufactured parts if left untreated. Therefore, it is necessary to fully understand the surface behavior concerning the factors affecting it to establish control over the surface quality. The challenge with AM is that it generates surfaces that are different compared to conventional manufacturing techniques and varies with respect to different materials, geometries and process parameters. Therefore, AM surfaces often require novel characterization approaches to fully explain the manufacturing process. Most of the previously published work has been broadly based on two-dimensional parametric measurements. Some researchers have already addressed the AM surfaces with areal surface texture parameters but mostly used average parameters for characterization which is still distant from a full surface and functional interpretation. There has been a continual effort in improving the characterization of AM surfaces using different methods and one such effort is presented in this thesis. The primary focus of this thesis is to get a better understanding of AM surfaces to facilitate process control and optimization. For this purpose, the surface texture of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Laser-based Powder Bed Fusion of Metals (PBF-LB/M) have been characterized using various tools such as Power Spectral Density (PSD), Scale-sensitive fractal analysis based on area-scale relations, feature-based characterization and quantitative characterization by both profile and areal surface texture parameters. A methodology was developed using a Linear multiple regression and a combination of the above-mentioned characterization techniques to identify the most significant parameters for discriminating different surfaces and also to understand the manufacturing process. The results suggest that the developed approaches can be used as a guideline for AM users who are looking to optimize the process for gaining better surface quality and component functionality, as it works effectively in finding the significant parameters representing the unique signatures of the manufacturing process. Future work involves improving the accuracy of the results by implementing improved statistical models and testing other characterization methods to enhance the quality and function of the parts produced by the AM process.

Šumová spektroskopie detektorů záření na bázi CdTe / The Noise Spectroscopy of Radiation Detectors Based on the CdTe

Zajaček, Jiří January 2009 (has links)
The main object of this work is noise spectroscopy of CdTe radiation detectors (-rays and X–rays) and CdTe samples. The study of stochastic phenomenon and tracing redundant low-frequency noise in semiconductor materials require long-term measurements in time domain and evaluate suitable power spectral densities (PSD) with logarithmic divided frequency axes. We have used the means of time-frequency analysis derived from the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and we have designed the effective algorithm for PSD estimation, which is comparable with an original analog method. CdTe single crystal with Au contacts we can imagine as a series connection of two Schottky diodes with a resistor between them. The bulk resistance at constant temperature and other constant parameters changes due to the carrier concentration changing only. The p-type CdTe sample shows metal behavior with every temperature changes. Semiconductor properties of the sample begin to dominate just after some period of time. This behavior is caused by the hole mobility changing. The voltage noise spectral density of 1/f noise depends on the quantity of free carriers in the sample. All the studied samples have very high value of low frequency noise, much higher than it should have been according to Hooge’s formula. The excess value of low frequency noise is caused by the low carrier concentration within the depleted region.

Quarz, Volker 04 October 2004 (has links)
Road unevenness and track irregularities can be considered as realisations of weakly stationary stochastic processes. A description of track quality levels is given by the (power)spectral density of the related process. Here, the synthesis of track irregularities for a given spectral density using fourier series and wavelets is considered.

Performance Analysis and PAPR Reduction Techniques for Filter-Bank based Multi-Carrier Systems with Non-Linear Power Amplifiers / Réduction du PAPR pour les systèmes utilisant la modulation FBMC/OQAM en présence d’amplificateur de puissance non linéaire

Bulusu, Sri Satish Krishna Chaitanya 29 April 2016 (has links)
This thesis is part of the European FP7 EMPHATIC project (Enhanced Multicarrier Techniques for Professional Ad-Hoc and Cell-Based Communications) including various European universities and two main industrial partners: THALES Communications Security and CASSIDIAN. The EMPHATIC objective is to develop, evaluate and demonstrate the capability of enhanced multi-carrier techniques to make better use of the existing radio frequency bands in providing broadband data services in coexistence with narrowband legacy services. The project addresses the Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) application. The main idea is to analyze the viability of broadband systems based on filter-bank multi-carrier (FBMC) clubbed with o ffset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM) in the context of the future 5th Generation (5G) radio access technology (RAT). Increasingly, the FBMC-OQAM systems are gaining appeal in the probe for advanced multi-carrier modulation (MCM) waveforms for future communication systems. This advanced modulation scheme o ers numerous advantages such as excellent frequency localization in its power spectral density (PSD), a robustness to phase noise, frequency off sets and also to the multi-user asynchronism; making it more appealing than OFDM for PMR, cognitive radio (CR) and 5G RAT. However, like any other MCM technique, FBMC-OQAM suff ers from high PAPR. When the power amplifi er (PA) non-linearity, which is realistic radio-frequency impairment, is taken into account; the good frequency localization property is severely compromised, due to the spectral regrowth. The first objective of this PhD thesis is, to predict the extent of the spectral regrowth in FBMC-OQAM systems, due to the PA non-linearity. The second objective is to probe techniques for FBMC-OQAM systems, such as PAPR reduction and PA linearization, in order to mitigate the NL eff ects of PA. By cumulant analysis, spectral regrowth prediction has been done for FBMC-OQAM systems. Also, some algorithms for PAPR reduction, which are based on probabilistic approach and adding signal methods, have been proposed. The coexistence capability of the FBMC-OQAM based broadband system with the narrowband PMR systems in the presence of PA has been analyzed and it has been found that coexistence is possible, provided there is a symbiotic combination of PA Input Back-off (IBO), PAPR reduction and PA linearization. Finally, a novel PA linearization technique has been proposed for FBMC-OQAM.

Étude de modèles spatiaux et spatio-temporels / Spatial and spatio-temporal models and application

Cisse, Papa Ousmane 11 December 2018 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the time series in addition to being observed over time, also have a spatial component. By definition, a spatiotemporal phenomenon is a phenomenon which involves a change in space and time. The spatiotemporal model-ling therefore aims to construct representations of systems taking into account their spatial and temporal dimensions. It has applications in many fields such as meteorology, oceanography, agronomy, geology, epidemiology, image processing or econometrics etc. It allows them to address the important issue of predicting the value of a random field at a given location in a region. Assume that the value depends predict observations in neighbouring regions. This shows the need to consider, in addition to their statistical characteristics, relations of spatial dependence between neighbouring locations, to account for all the inherent data structures. In the exploration of spatiotemporal data, refinement of time series models is to explicitly incorporate the systematic dependencies between observations for a given region, as well as dependencies of a region with neighboring regions. In this context, the class of spatial models called spatiotemporal auto-regressive models (Space-Time Autoregressive models) or STAR was introduced in the early 1970s. It will then be generalized as GSTAR model (Generalized Space-Time Autoregressive models). In most fields of applications, one is often confronted by the fact that one of the major sources of fluctuations is seasonality. In our work we are particularly interested in the phenomenon of seasonality in spatiotemporal data. We develop a new class of models and investigates the properties and estimation methods. Make a mathematical model taking into account the spatial inter-action of different points or locations of an entire area would be a significant contribution. Indeed, a statistical treatment that takes into account this aspect and integrates appropriate way can correct a loss of information, errors in predictions, non-convergent and inefficient estimates.

Real-time Adaptive Cancellation of Satellite Interference in Radio Astronomy

Poulsen, Andrew Joseph 17 July 2003 (has links) (PDF)
Radio astronomy is the science of observing the heavens at radio frequencies, from a few kHz to approximately 300 GHz. In recent years, radio astronomy has faced a growing interference problem as radio frequency (RF) bandwidth has become an increasingly scarce commodity. A programmable real-time DSP least-mean-square interference canceller was developed and demonstrated as a successful method of excising satellite down-link signals from both an experimental platform at BYU, and the Green Bank Telescope at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia. A performance analysis of this cancellation system in the radio astronomy radio frequency interference (RFI) mitigation regime constitutes the main contribution of this thesis. The real-time BYU test platform consists of small radio telescopes, low noise RF receivers, and a state-of-the-art DSP platform. This programmable real-time radio astronomy RFI mitigation tool is the first of its kind. Basic tools needed for radio astronomy observations and the analysis and implementation of interference mitigation algorithms were also implemented in the DSP platform, including a power spectral density estimator, a beamformer, and an array signal correlator.
