Redes de colaboração científica nos cursos de graduação em Biblioteconomia no Estado de São Paulo: interseções entre graduação e pós-graduação / Scientific collaboration networks from professors of the courses of Library Science of Institutions of Higher Education of the State of São Paulo: intersection between graduate and posgraduate

Silva, Fernanda Ferreira da 19 September 2018 (has links)
The study presents an overview of the production and scientific collaboration networks from professors of the courses of Library Science of Institutions of Higher Education of the State of São Paulo and the intersection between the production and scientific communication of the teachers linked only to graduate courses and those linked both to graduate and posgraduate. It was assumed that the interaction between learning and research is essential to assure a high-quality learning and that, on the Information Science, the research can\'t ignore the knowledge produced on the professional field, which is a main silo for new researches and the advancement of knowledge. It was considered the hypothesis that, while research in Brazil is developed mainly on the posgraduate stricto sensu, the professor from the Library Science courses not integrated to the posgraduate also develop researches, but with a focus on the professional experiences, whose locus of disclosure and discussion are the academic/professional events, that allow collaboration networks different from those provided by the forums of research discussion on the graduation and represent an important potential of knowledge production for thinking and systematization, not only from professionals, but from sharing between graduate and posgraduate teachers. It was used the Social Network Analysis methodology, along with Bibliometric techniques. The scientific production 116 active professors was collected from the Lattes Platform and implemented with information from ResearchGate and Google Academics, on an interval that comprehends the last two assessments from Capes (three-year period from 2010-2012 and four-year period from 2013-2016). The results confirm, in part, the hypothesis and show that, from the 46 teachers that are not linked to the posgraduate, eleven (23,9%) did not present any publication on the analyzed interval. This is an alarming data, considering that the changes on the workplace, with jurisdictional aspects of the professions under discussion, have placed many challenges for the information professions. The research also shows that 90,6% of the teachers from Library Science on the state of São Paulo (whether linked to the posgraduate or not) have cared about the research and presentation of scientific, academic or professional works, and they maintain collaboration networks with different authors, although the internationalization process is limited to a few institutions, mainly the Spanish ones. The research contributes to the compreension of scientific collaboration between professors of the courses of Library Science of Higher Education of the State of São Paulo, comparing the behavior of teachers integrated and not integrated to the posgraduate and enable to outsource the close connection between research activities and professional activities of Library Science, and also between learning and research in this area.

Unknown Date (has links)
The rapid development of science and technology is characteristic of today's modern civilizations. In such a society, knowing how to pick up information from a load of various data and take advantage of it usefully and efficiently means one holds the key to the door of success. The old proverb ‘Knowledge is power', therefore, becomes more meaningful in this competitive society. Undoubtedly, essays and research achievements from academic circles perform as a great resource, too, which enables researchers to follow predecessors and make progress and new findings on the existent basis. However, knowledge management in academic documents still lacks its efficient application. When common people often neglect the treasure aside and just go away, researchers are busy seeking and sorting the materials available, causing the waste of time. For this reason, to collect both the M. D’s and Ph. D’s essays of the Science of Information Management available in Taiwan and establish a network becomes an important task that cannot be delayed. There are two major goals in this study: firstly, to find out the theories applied to the Science of Information Management in the recent three years in Taiwan; secondly, to sort and study these various researches in this science. Then we can see the major emphases in this study field, the scholastic trends in each school's development, and thus form the ‘knowledge map’ we intend to make. I sincerely expect the compilation and arrangement of the theory bases and trends in the Science of Information Management in recent Taiwan can be a reference to researchers who take interest in this subject and contribute to this academic field.

Towards an improvement of LIS graduates ICT skills and employability needs in Kuwait

Buarki, Hanadi J. January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this research was to explore the ICT skills of LIS students in Kuwaiti HE that are potentially defined by the job market. These skills are deemed essential for the employment of LIS graduates in different job market sectors. As a result, the ICT skills of current LIS students, the needs of employers, and the LIS curriculum in Kuwait were all investigated. In addition the factors that had an impact on students ICT skills were also investigated. To fulfil the research aim and objectives, mixed research methods were employed. The research subjects were employers, LIS students, and teaching staff. Their views were sought through qualitative and quantitative methods that included: 54 semistructured interviews; 225 self-administered questionnaires; these were supplemented by three focus groups; and content analysis of relevant web sites, reports, and LIS syllabus to provide further documentation and analysis. The main findings of the research were: (1) overall the students had knowledge and basic ICT skills, but they lacked advanced searching and internet navigation skills. 85% of the students did not have enough ICT skills; their ICT skills level was selfrated as intermediate or beginner ; (2) the research investigated negative factors such as: unsuitable teaching and learning environment, negative attitudes, social influences, and lack of resources; (3) the students most preferred teaching and training method was group training ; (4) the employers identified further ICT skills and non-ICT skills that LIS graduates should possess for employability; (5) gaps were found in the curriculum and in teaching and training the ICT courses such as: course content was inconsistent; did not reflect the needs of the job market and were outdated; an imbalance between theory and practical training, courses had different outline and little use of the English language hindered the students ICT skills improvement and ICT use. In addition, work placement needed careful consideration. Recommendations based on the research findings and conclusions were made to the DLIS in Kuwait and stakeholders. Future ideas were identified for further research.
