In this sense, the neighborhood is considered a periphery, located in the northern part of the city. With a large territory and population, it is considered the largest neighborhood in the state capital Natal - and its metropolitan area. The neighborhood also represents an urban space that presents social, economic and structural contrasts among them violence. The neighborhood is the leader in homicide rates in the capital. Therefore, the following study, based on empirical analysis of three distinct spaces within the neighborhood, aims to analyze how social actors perceive their own neighborhood and, specifically, segregation and violence. As this work shows, these two instances of urban life are not separated in the discourse of the residents. The main contribution of this work is the analysis of the impact of those views on the construction of social stigmas, reproduced within the neighborhood, on the fragmentation of the social and spatial fabric, and on the formation of poor and elitist spaces within the neighborhood, confirming the hypothesis that we are facing a New Urban Periphery / O Bairro Nossa Senhora da Apresenta??o surgiu na d?cada de 1970, atrelado ?s pol?ticas habitacionais empreendidas durante o Regime Militar Brasileiro (1964 - 1985), que por sua vez foram financiadas via institui??es p?blicas de provimento da casa pr?pria, como a Companhia da Habita??o (COHAB), subordinada ao Banco Nacional de Habita??o (BNH). O Nossa Senhora da Apresenta??o ? considerado um bairro perif?rico, situado na regi?o administrativa Norte da cidade, onde possui consider?veis extens?es territoriais e demogr?ficas e, por isso, ? considerado o maior bairro da capital Natal e de sua Regi?o Metropolitana. O bairro tamb?m se constitui como um espa?o urbano que concentra s?rios contrastes sociais, econ?micos e estruturais que passam a ser externados atrav?s de problemas locais, como o da viol?ncia, uma vez que estatisticamente ocupa a lideran?a nas taxas de homic?dios da capital. Portanto, o presente trabalho, partindo da an?lise emp?rica de tr?s espa?os distintos no interior do bairro, tem como objetivo principal analisar como os atores sociais que comp?em o cotidiano do Nossa Senhora da Apresenta??o tecem a imagem do bairro por meio das percep??es da segrega??o e da viol?ncia, uma vez que estas duas n?o s?o dissociadas no discurso do morador. The research with a transdisciplinary work ( using elements of sociology, anthropology, geography and communication) made a reflection about segregation and tourism: poverty-richness, center-periphery, tradition- spectaclezation , the visitor-visited maping the touristic circuit and discussing about the phenomenon on the real city and touristic place: Natal and the "Sun City" - Rio Grande do Norte, studying videos produced by residents (documentary) and tourists ( posted on the Internet). Doing a comparative analysis between the realities of these two subjects (resident and tourist), the research found few similarities, many differences on the urban experience, with the existence of two distinct realities (tourist region X the periphery region). Based on theory of phenomenology, social representation, and using content analysis of film, it was noted that promotes to the visitor a trip segmented and disintegrated to daily life, culture and contact with the resident. Resident that, in largely part, lives in a unattended area, with no prospect of life (represented by Novo Horizonte Community). The confinement and segregation occurs even in his moments of leisure and cultural expressions (represented by Redinha‟s Beach), because the private an public leisure areas of tourism indirectly prevent access by people who can not contribute to the consumption on this places. This papper concluded that the tourism in Natal is an activity-phenomenon that directs and focuses on public investments for infrastructure tourist region (Ponta Negra Beach), in detriment of the poorest and periphery areas of the city / O presente estudo inquieta-se e desdobra-se a partir de um apontamento de ?talo Calvino, que em seu romance Cidades Invis?veis, aconselha a se evitar dizer que, algumas vezes, cidades diferentes sucedem-se no mesmo solo e com mesmo nome, nascem e morrem sem se conhecer, incomunic?veis entre si . De car?ter transdisciplinar (pressupostos sociologia, antropologia, geografia e comunica??o), esta pesquisa faz uma reflex?o acerca da segrega??o s?cio-espacial e turismo: pobreza-riqueza; centro-periferia; tradi??o-espetaculariza??o; visitante-visitado ao mapear o circuito tur?stico e discutir o fen?meno sitiando a cidade real e tur?stica; Natal e Cidade do Sol o Rio Grande do Norte, atrav?s de v?deos produzidos por residentes (document?rios) e turistas (registros postados na Internet). Ao fazer uma an?lise comparativa entre as realidades vividas entre esses dois sujeitos (residente e turista), a pesquisa constatou poucas semelhan?as, muitas disparidades de experi?ncia com o urbano, apresentando a exist?ncia de duas realidades bastante distintas (regi?o tur?stica X regi?o da periferia). Baseado na corrente te?rica da fenomenologia, da representa??o social, e se utilizando da an?lise de conte?do f?lmico, verificou-se que a experi?ncia tur?stica promove ao visitante uma viagem segmentada e desintegrada do cotidiano, da cultura e do contato com o residente. Residente esse que, em grande parte, ? morador de ?rea desassistida, carente e sem perspectiva de vida (representada pela Comunidade Novo Horizonte). O confinamento e a segrega??o dos sujeitos, ocorrem at? em seus momentos de lazer e express?es culturais (representado pela Praia da Redinha), visto que as ?reas privadas e p?blicas de lazer tur?stico, indiretamente impedem o acesso daqueles que n?o podem contribuir ? atividade de consumo presente nessas regi?es. Pesquisa do Estado de S?o Paulo - FAPESP / In the area of Architecture and Urbanism, the proposed theme is related to the socio-spatial implications of "Great Urban Projects" (GPU). Such projects are characterized by the size, specificity of the architectural-urban program and, especially, transformations that induce in the places where they are implanted. Under the context of the social function of architecture and urbanism, one inquires whether the proposition and implantation of GPUs imply producing socially necessary projects. The analysis involves a case study: the Itaquer?o or Arena Corinthians. Inaugurated in 2014 in the district of Itaquera, S?o Paulo city, this football stadium has triggered significant transformations in the immediate surroundings that are reflected in the East Zone of the city. It can be said that this class of spatial intervention is unprecedented in the history of the urban periphery of S?o Paulo, the research involves documentation of the transformations arising from the installation of Itaquer?o in its initial moments. The methodology proposes the development of theoretical-empirical elements related to the subject approach in the field of applied social sciences, especially field research involving questionnaires and interviews. The aim is to contribute to the production of knowledge focused on contemporary space dynamics, to the methodology of architectural-urbanistic projects, as well as to subsidize the formulation of public policies of a territorial character. / Na ?rea de Arquitetura e Urbanismo, o tema proposto relaciona-se com as implica??es socioespaciais provenientes de ?Grandes Projetos Urbanos?. Tais projetos se caracterizam pelo porte, especificidade do programa arquitet?nico-urban?stico e, especialmente, transforma??es que induzem nas localidades onde s?o implantados. Sob o contexto da fun??o social da arquitetura e urbanismo, indaga-se se a proposi??o e implanta??o de projetos urbanos de grande porte implicam produzir projetos socialmente necess?rios. A an?lise envolve um estudo de caso: o Itaquer?o ou Arena Corinthians. Esse est?dio de futebol foi inaugurado em 2014 e desencadeia transforma??es significativas no entorno imediato em que foi implantado e na Zona Leste da cidade de S?o Paulo. Implanted in segregated areas of the existing formal city, the population installed in these complexes was also excluded from their rights, considering that the housing defines itself not only by the physical dwelling, but also by its access to urban infrastructure, facilities, services, and others. From this reality and the verification of the city s exclusion and sociospatial segregation processes, we aimed to quantitatively demonstrate levels of social exclusion in Natal, based on the methodology developed by Sposati (2000) and adapted by Genovez (2002), which relates IBGE s (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) database underlying variables such as income, schooling and dwelling s quality. The research unveiled some spatial patterns promoted by the social housings: in these areas islands were developed with higher indicators than surrounding areas, revealing internal hierarchies in the city s outskirts / No processo de crescimento urbano do munic?pio de Natal ? dado que o per?odo de atua??o do BNH (1964-1986) foi marcado pela intensa expans?o da malha urbana e configura??o de periferias, atrav?s da constru??o de conjuntos habitacionais. Implantados em ?reas segregadas da cidade formal existente, a popula??o que se instalou nesses conjuntos tamb?m foi exclu?da dos seus direitos, considerando que a moradia se define n?o s? pela unidade habitacional, mas tamb?m pelo acesso ? infraestrutura urbana, equipamentos, servi?os, entre outros. In this way, the present study has as objective analyse the expansion of the horizontal closed condominiums on the urban area of Natal. Emphasizing the sociogeographic changes that these ventures engender. For this, we have done a research that was based on quantitative procedures, however, preferring a qualitative approach. So, data were gathered from sources and procedures: the first, we performed a literature search and document on issues related to the relevant issues in libraries, public and privates institutions; The second, in accordance with the procedures, or the production of informations, performed enterview and implemetation of questionnaires with key stakeholders involved with the expansion of horizontal condominiums in Natal. Within this perspective, our research showed that the expansion of demand in the city, the existence of volume of land in areas suitable for the production building, the formation of capital property, the appearance of new points of modern consumption, the actions of the state and the low cost of production of these enterprises, are factors that have been decisive in the expansion of the horizontal condominiums in Natal. Also, we can observe that the process of production of the urban space from the horizontal condominiums comes in providing the redefinition of land use in areas that appear, because they expand into outlying areas of Natal, changes in its structure and its pattern of socio segregation, observing that the condominiums put the diferents social groups living side by side, but not mantaining relationships among them, the emergence of spaces to homogenization, the fragmentation of the urbanization, the privatization of the city and several environmental problems. In short, we believe that the horizontal expansion of condominiums is enabling a number of social changes to Natal city / O processo de urbaniza??o da cidade de Natal vem passando nos ?ltimos anos por altera??es substanciais, principalmente, porque presenciamos a expans?o de uma nova tipologia de moradia, os condom?nios horizontais fechados, que a partir de 1995 passaram a se expandir rapidamente no tecido da cidade. Dessa forma, o presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar a expans?o dos condom?nios horizontais fechados no espa?o urbano de Natal, dando ?nfase ?s transforma??es socioespaciais que esses empreendimentos engendram. Para tanto, fizemos uma pesquisa que teve como base os procedimentos quantitativos, por?m, privilegiando uma abordagem qualitativa. Assim, foram levantados dados a partir de fontes e procedimentos. Na etapa que diz respeito ?s fontes, realizamos uma pesquisa bibliogr?fica e documental sobre temas relacionados ? problem?tica em quest?o em bibliotecas, institui??es p?blicas e privadas; na etapa concernente aos procedimentos, ou a produ??o de informa??es, realizamos entrevistas e aplica??o de question?rios com os principais agentes sociais envolvidos com a expans?o dos condom?nios horizontais em Natal. Dentro desta perspectiva, nossa pesquisa revelou que o alargamento da demanda solv?vel na cidade, a exist?ncia de volume de terras em ?reas adequadas ? produ??o imobili?ria, a forma??o do capital imobili?rio, o surgimento de novos pontos de consumo moderno, a atua??o do Estado e o baixo de custo de produ??o desses empreendimentos, s?o fatores determinantes na expans?o dos condom?nios horizontais em Natal.
