Empirical Testing of the CySeMoL Tool for Cyber Security Assessment – Case Study of Linux Server and MySQLRabbani, Talvia January 2016 (has links)
In this Master Thesis, several common applications used with MySQL and Linux server are modelled using the Enterprise Architecture Analysis Tool (EAAT) and the Cyber Security Modelling Language (CySeMoL), both developed by the Department of Industrial Information and Control System (ICS) at KTH. The objective of this study is to use the CySeMoL tool to evaluate the feasibility and correctness of the tool by simulating some particular type of attacks on a real life Linux server. A few common applications with MySQL on a Linux server and two Linux operating system services are modelled and explained together with their detailed information and defense mechanisms. A real life penetration test has then been carried out in order to validate the simulated results from the tool. The results of the analysis suggest that the security vulnerability predictions done by CySeMoL on a Linux server has good predictive performance.

Traffic analysis of existing traffic in Kulyab region in order to plan and configure a new GSM MSC for this region / Trafikanalys av existerande trafik i Kulyab-regionen inför planering och konfigurering av en ny GSM MSC för denna regionFrostne, Isabel January 2011 (has links)
Wide area cellular mobile networks have rapidly evolved over the years. In the beginning achieving wide area coverage was a great achievement – enabling subscribers to call from wherever they were currently located and whenever they wanted. Additionally these systems supported mobility of subscribers, so that calls could continue even while a subscriber moved from one cell to another. Today mobility management is something everyone takes for granted. New functionality is continuously being developed for these networks. An important aspect of this evolution has been to enable new applications and technologies to be introduced while maintaining interoperability with the existing technologies. These mobile networks use new technologies and enable new applications, but they interconnect with existing networks that utilize earlier technologies, such as the existing fixed telephone network. These interconnections enable communication between subscribers connected via all of these networks. In today’s mobile networks there are a variety of technologies working side by side, for example 2G, GPRS, 3G, and so on. The earlier networks used circuit switching technology, but the trend in later networks was to transition exclusively to packet switching. One of the most important network entities is the mobile switch center (MSC). In the earlier circuit switched networks the MSC is the heart of the circuit switching network. The MSC is responsible for management, control, and communication to and from the mobile stations (MSs) in the area managed by the MSC. The MSC stores information about each of the MSs in one or more databases. In the subscriber’s home network the information about their subscription is stored in a home location register (HLR), while when this subscriber is in another network information is stored in a visitor location register (VLR). The MSC together with other elements of the core network handles mobility management, enabling both handover and roaming. A gateway MSC enables MSs to communicate with phones connected to the fixed network. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the traffic situation for Kulyab region in order to configure and install the MSC in Kulyab. For the time being there is no radio network controller (RNC) in Kulyab region, so the MSC in Kulyab will be configured to support 2G traffic. The configuration will be based on the expected mobile traffic load in the Kulyab region, thus the first steps in the process were to collect and analyze data about the existing traffic in this region that is currently served by a MSC located outside of this region. The configuration of the new MSC will be based on this analysis. After installing and configuring the new MSC some question need to be answered, namely: Can the MSC in Kulyab support all the base stations in Kulyab region? If not, how many base stations can it support? To what extent does the addition of this new MSC improve the overall network in terms of increased reliability, capacity, and throughput? How much will the capacity of the existing MSC, that is responsible for traffic outside Dushanbe, be increased due to the introduction of the new MSC?

My independent work has been to modernize a user interface in a 10-year-old MVC Framework application used by Skärblacka mills within the BillerudKorsnäs Group. The concept of modernization also means increasing its quality; to replace older knowledge and technology with new and modern technology such as be able to click on the text of a checkbox that is considered to be more relevant for its time. The framework chosen for the implementation was ASP.NET Core MVC, which is an open source for the most common platforms. The implementation of the porting meant that server code that is well-functioning has been maintained to a large extent. JavaScript is also pretty much the same except in a few places. To get a good and durable structure, the application is layered in the form of 3 layers with Controller, BusinessLayer and Repository. The database with SQL Server is basically the same except that Identity has been introduced. To be able to communicate with the database, ORM EF Core has been chosen, which is a slim version of EF. A lot of what is in the old MVC framework has been redesigned because it is not supported in Core MVC. The application consists of an assembly with a logical development tree that consists of the files included in the application.Ajax has been used to get soft desktop-like updates. The application, which is complex with a lot of complicated things, made time run away.

Data Processing and Collection in Distributed SystemsAndersson, Sara January 2021 (has links)
Distributed systems can be seen in a variety of applications that is in use today. Tritech provides several systems that to some extent consist of distributed systems of nodes. These nodes collect data and the data have to be processed. A problem that often appears when designing these systems, is deciding where the data should be processed, i.e., which architecture is the most suitable one for the system. Decide the architecture for these systems are not simple, especially since it changes rather quickly due to the development in these areas. The thesis aims to perform a study regarding which factors affect the choice of architecture in a distributed system and how these factors relate to each other. To be able to analyze which factors do affect the choice of architecture and to what extent, a simulator was implemented. The simulator received information about the factors as input, and return one or several architecture configurations as output. By performing qualitative interviews, the input factors to the simulator were chosen. The factors that were analyzed in the thesis was: security, storage, working memory, size of data, number of nodes, data processing per data set, robust communication, battery consumption, and cost. From the qualitative interviews as well as from the prestudy five architecture configuration was chosen. The chosen architectures were: thin-client server, thick-client server, three-tier client-server, peer-to-peer, and cloud computing. The simulator was validated regarding the three given use cases: agriculture, the train industry, and industrial Internet of Things. The validation consisted of five existing projects from Tritech. From the results of the validation, the simulator produced correct results for three of the five projects. By using the simulator results, it could be seen which factors affect the choice of architecture more than others and are hard to provide in the same architecture since they are conflicting factors. The conflicting factors were security together with working memory and robust communication. The factor working memory together with battery consumption also showed to be conflicting factors and is hard to provide within the same architecture. Therefore, according to the simulator, it can be seen that the factors that affect the choice of architecture were working memory, battery consumption, security, and robust communication. By using the results of the simulator, a decision matrix was designed whose purpose was to facilitate the choice of architecture. The evaluation of the decision matrix consisted of four projects from Tritech including the three given use cases: agriculture, the train industry, and industrial Internet of Things. The evaluation of the decision matrix showed that the two architectures that received the most points, one of the architectures were used in the validated project.

U-Net ship detection in satellite optical imagerySmith, Benjamin 05 October 2020 (has links)
Deep learning ship detection in satellite optical imagery suffers from false positive occurrences with clouds, landmasses, and man-made objects that interfere with correctly classifying ships. A custom U-Net is implemented to challenge this issue and aims to capture more features in order to provide a more accurate class accuracy. This model is trained with two different systematic architectures: single node architecture and a parameter server variant whose workers act as a boosting mechanism. To ex-tend this effort, a refining method of offline hard example mining aims to improve the accuracy of the trained models in both the validation and target datasets however it results in over correction and a decrease in accuracy. The single node architecture results in 92% class accuracy over the validation dataset and 68% over the target dataset. This exceeds class accuracy scores in related works which reached up to 88%. A parameter server variant results in class accuracy of 86% over the validation set and 73% over the target dataset. The custom U-Net is able to achieve acceptable and high class accuracy on a subset of training data keeping training time and cost low in cloud based solutions. / Graduate
