THE IRIG 106 CHAPTER 10 SOLID-STATE ON-BOARD RECORDER STANDARD: A DATA PROCESSING PERSPECTIVE

This standard is intended to allow the development of a common set of data playback/reduction software, minimizing the need for a large number of unique programs to handle proprietary data structures. This paper analyzes the Chapter 10 standard from a data processing perspective, providing insight into the benefits and challenges developers will face when writing Chapter 10 software.

Structuring And Modeling Knowledge In The Context Of Enterprise Systems

In recent years, the Information Technology (IT) industry has been overwhelmed by a new class of packaged application software collectively known as Enterprise Systems (ES). Enterprise Systems are comprehensive business operating systems that weave together all the data within an organisation's business processes and associated functional areas. In particular, ES provide organisations with the ability to manage data and information in a real-time environment and to integrate operations between various departments; capacities that had been previously unrealized in traditional information systems. ES have since been established as an integral development in the Information Systems (IS) field and extensively studied by academics. The implementation and operation of ES are known to be complex and costly installations that require knowledge and expertise from various areas and sources. The knowledge necessary for managing ES is diverse and varied; it extends from the application of knowledge in different phases of the ES life cycle to the exchange of knowledge between ES vendors, clients and consultants. The communication of knowledge between the various agents adds another dimension to the complex nature of ES. Thus, ES clients have been motivated to reduce costs and retain ES knowledge within the organisation. Research has been conducted on the critical success factors and issues involved in implementing ES. These studies often address the lack of appropriate in-house ES knowledge and the need to actively manage ES-related knowledge. With motivation from another area of research known as Knowledge Management, academia and industry have strived to provide solutions and strategies for managing ES-related knowledge. However, it is often not clear what this 'knowledge' is, what type(s) of knowledge is relevant, who possesses the type(s) of knowledge and how knowledge can be instituted to facilitate the execution of processes. This research aims to identify the relevant knowledge in the context of Enterprise Systems. The types of knowledge required for ES are derived by studying the knowledge (techne)1 for different ES roles, managers and implementation consultants. This provides a perspective for understanding how ES knowledge can be structured. By applying a process modeling approach, the understanding of the relation of ES knowledge to roles and business processes thus gained will demonstrate how knowledge can be modeled. The understanding of ES knowledge and how it can be managed is first formalized by the development of a conceptual framework based on the existing literature. An exploratory study found that the identification of ES knowledge was necessary before the other activities in the knowledge management dimension could be effected. As an appropriate concept of knowledge could not be derived from the IS literature, the concept of techne emerged from a more comprehensive literature review. Techne ('art' or 'applied science' or 'skill') is defined as the trained ability of rationally producing, i.e. the ability to produce something reliably, under a variety of conditions, on the basis of reasoning. This involves having knowledge, or having what seems to be knowledge (awareness) of whatever principles and patterns one relies on. With this foundation, the main focus of the research is on the content analysis of the most popular implementation tool for Enterprise Systems management, ValueSAP. This tool is studied with respect to the types of knowledge (techne), roles and activities in ES implementation. The analysis of ValueSAP thus contributes to the understanding of the structure and distribution of knowledge in ES projects. Consequently, case studies were conducted to understand how the derived ES knowledge can be instituted in business processes using process modeling techniques. This part of the study demonstrates the modeling perspective of the research. 1. The terms 'knowledge' and 'skills' will be used interchangeably for the context of this thesis; where the term 'knowledge' is mentioned, the author refers to the skills required in the ES context. This section is further elaborated in Chapter 2 on techne and skills.

An Examination of the Role of Corporate Governance Structure in the Implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems: an International Perspective

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are regarded as among the most innovative information technology products developed over the past two decades. Thus, they have become the backbone of management information systems in the organizations that have implemented them. The difficulties associated with their high failure rate, however, have been the subject of extensive studies. To expand on this knowledge, this study has two research objectives: to examine the relationship between corporate governance structures and implementation results and to investigate whether implementation outcomes vary by country. This study focuses on the project steering committee’s involvement, internal auditors’ participation, and the change management plan implementation. The results demonstrate that steering committee involvement is a primary factor that influenced the success of ERP implementation; and that institutional factors in country of deployment are important determinants of ERP project outcome.

To the ARM Thumb shall an image capturing device be interfaced and the captured images shall be sent over Bluetooth to the Personal Digital Assistant which shall display them.</p>

Implementace nového software podporujícího řízení vztahů se zákazníky / Implementation of a new software supporting customer relationship management

The main goal of this work is to provide managers with complex methodology for the implementation of software supporting customer relationship management. Because the activity is done only occasionally, the methodology is based on theoretical findings of project management which the first part focuses on. The specifics of the multinational company where the software implementation was provided were taken into consideration. The implementation itself is described in chapters corresponding with the theoretical base and prepared project plan as the main implementation document. Described are practical experiences which I gained as the manager responsible for leading the project. During project realisation a number of theoretical findings were confirmed, as well as managers' practical experiences, both positive and negative. Regarding the importance and character of the problems it is expected that similar activity will be repeated in the future. The project provides information on how to prepare for implementation.

Motivations For Enterprise Resource Planning (erp) System Implementation In Public Versus Private Sector Organizations

The goal of this research was to increase the knowledge base regarding Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software implementation, particularly in the public sector. To this end, factors regarding benefits sought through ERP system implementation and critical factors surrounding successful ERP implementation were identified. In addition, the perception of project team members’ satisfaction with modules implemented and their concerns about implementing ERP software were identified in this study. The results of this study provided recommendations for public- and private-sector organizations in order to increase their opportunity for successful ERP system implementation. The literature review and results of this study suggested that the benefits sought during ERP system implementation were consistent among public- and private-sector organizations. Benefits such as increased standardization, better reporting, and reduced operational costs were recognized as goals of ERP software implementation. Factors that attributed to successful ERP system implementations were top management support, and knowledgeable project managers and team members. The t-test analyses found differences among the two groups, public and private sector organizations, regarding some benefits sought and the level of satisfaction with some modules. The study included recommendations for organizations to fully research ERP functionality prior to implementation, implement strong change management, use other means of measuring return on investment, ensure employee buy-in and top management involvement, and avoid scope creep.

Multifunctional voltage source converter for shipboard power systems

Multifunctional voltage source converters (VSCs) are desired for shipboard power systems. The opportunity to extend the functionality of a particular VSC on demand, combined with power system reconfiguration strategies may provide desired redundancy to back up power electronic converters that might be destroyed as a result of a battle damage or material casualty. The space for power electronics may be downsized if the VSCs are capable of performing multiple functions. In addition, the flexibility of the energy management can be enhanced in shipboard power systems if a single VSC can perform multiple functions. The functionality of a VSC in many cases is restricted to a single task or set of tasks by its control architecture. Despite the great number of different control strategies suggested for VSCs, nearly all use similar methods for generation of the reference signals. These methods generally depend upon the use of filters to extract reference signals for the components that are to be injected into or drawn from the system. These methods of control are not flexible. The main objective of the dissertation is the development of a flexible reference signal generator for VSCs that allows online maximization of its possible functions. Furthermore, the switching frequency of a VSC is generally above 10 kHz for many applications, and carries a significant amount of high frequency noise. This necessitates the use of EMI filters, which carry an extra cost and increase the overall bulk of the power electronics. This may not be acceptable for shipboard power systems, where the space and weight requirements are usually stringent. Thus, in addition to investigation of various reference signal generator (RSG) strategies for VSCs, alternative solutions to attenuate EMI levels in the shipboard power system environment are explored.

Performance Analysis Of Elliptic Curve Multiplication Algorithms For Elliptic Curve Cryptography

Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) has been introduced as a public-key cryptosystem, which offers smaller key sizes than the other known public-key systems at equivalent security level. The key size advantage of ECC provides faster computations, less memory consumption, less processing power and efficient bandwidth usage. These properties make ECC attractive especially for the next generation public-key cryptosystems. The implementation of ECC involves so many arithmetic operations / one of them is the elliptic curve point multiplication operation, which has a great influence on the performance of ECC protocols. In this thesis work, we have studied on elliptic curve point multiplication methods which are proposed by many researchers. The software implementations of these methods are developed in C programming language on Pentium 4 at 3 GHz. We have used NIST-recommended elliptic curves over prime and binary fields, by using efficient finite field arithmetic. We have then applied our elliptic curve point multiplication implementations to Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), and compared different methods. The timing results are presented and comparisons with recent studies have been done.
