Autodeterminação em três movimentos: a politização de diferenças sob a perspectiva da (des)naturalização da violência / Self-determination in three movements: the politization of differences under the perspective of the (de)naturalization of violence

Tosold, Léa 31 July 2018 (has links)
In this writingbody, I exam in depth the problem of naturalization of structural violence in order to argue for a (re)new(ed) perspective on the politicization of differences. I suggest a reconceptualization of the politicization of differences as a defense of colle(a)ctive selfdetermination processes through an investigation about the preconditions for the generation of non-hegemonic frames in contexts ruled by structural violence. This thesis is undertaken in three interdependent movements: (3) a philosophical-epistemological-poetical reflexion on the relevance of colle(a)ctive spatialization processes for the experience of temporality; (2) a political-theorical consideration on the relationship between the problem of essentialism and the possibility of subversive colle(a)ctive agency; and (1) a perspective on the con-figura( c)tion of the Munduruku and the riverside peoples (r)existence process to the construction of dams in Middle Tapajós region. I argue that the politicization of differences is conditio sine qua non in order to enable the denaturalization of structural violence, as only (pro)positional colle(a)ctive movements transcend the limits of merely reactive positions, enabling the emergency of images that can call the hegemonic rule into question and, therefore, initiate processes of structural trans-formation.

Abaza, Mohamed 01 December 2015 (has links)
Free-space optical (FSO) communication has been the subject of ongoing research activities and commercial attention in the past few years. Such attention is driven by the promise of high data rate, license-free operation, and cheap and ecological friendly means of communications alternative to congested radio frequency communications. In most previous work considering multiple transmitters, uncorrelated channel conditions have been considered. An uncorrelated channel requires sufficient spacing between transmitters. However, this can be difficult and may not be always feasible in some applications. Thereby, this thesis studies repetition codes (RCs) and orthogonal space-time block codes performance in correlated log-normal FSO channels using intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD). Furthermore, the effect of different weather conditions on the average bit error rate (ABER) performance of the FSO links is studied. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) FSO communication systems using space shift keying (SSK) modulation have been also analyzed. Obtained results show that SSK is a potential technique for spectral efficiencies equal or greater than 4 bits/s/Hz as compared to RCs with multiple pulse amplitude modulations. The performance analysis of a multi-hop decode and forward relays for FSO communication system using IM/DD is also considered in this thesis. It is shown that multi-hop is an efficient technique to mitigate atmospheric turbulence and different weather attenuation effects and geometric losses in FSO communication systems. Our simulation results show that multiple-input single-output (MISO) multi-hop FSO systems are superior to direct link and MISO systems over links exhibiting high attenuation. Meeting the growing demand for higher data rates communication networks, a system with full-duplex (FD) relays is considered. For such a system, the outage probability and the ABER performance are analyzed under different turbulence conditions, misalignment error and path loss effects. FD relays are compared with the direct link and half-duplex relays. Obtained results show that FD relays have the lowest ABER and the outage probability as compared to the two other systems. Finally, the obtained results in this thesis are very promising towards the next generation of FSO systems.

EDUCARE ALL' AUTENTICITA' ESISTENZIALE. IDENTITA' E PROGETTO DI SE'

CASADIO, ISABELLA GINEVRA GILDA ADELE MARIA 23 March 2009 (has links)
This works takes as a departing point the idea that authenticity is an important issue in pedagogical theorization as well as a relevant goal for education, and particularly so in the current historical era when the human being is increasingly bewildered, fragmented and subject to the risk of losing oneself and never attaining selfhood. Beside being an important aspect of existential wholeness, authenticity may act as a directional goal able to steer and provide meaning to an educational journey aiming to bring into actuality the person’s potentials. Authenticity also provides epistemological and methodological directions through which the educator respects the individuality of the person to be educated. The theoretical approach here adopted mostly refer to phenomenological-existential pedagogy (including developments in hermeneutics and philosophies of the person), with additional references to the main exponents of such perspective in philosophy, psychology and, mostly, theory of education. During the research process many themes have been thoroughly investigated, because of the boundary spanning nature of authenticity, which touches upon several educational fields, including: relationships, communication, care, ethics, identity, project, choice, freedom, temporality, death, sorrow, emotional life, time, body, space. The thesis consists of two sections that go from theoretical-pedagogical considerations to practical-educational directions.

On The Peak-To-Average-Power-Ratio Of Affine Linear Codes

Paul, Prabal 12 1900 (has links)
Employing an error control code is one of the techniques to reduce the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing system; a well known class of such codes being the cosets of Reed-Muller codes. In this thesis, classes of such coset-codes of arbitrary linear codes are considered. It has been proved that the size of such a code can be doubled with marginal/no increase in the PAPR. Conditions for employing this method iteratively have been enunciated. In fact this method has enabled to get the optimal coset-codes. The PAPR of the coset-codes of the extended codes is obtained from the PAPR of the corresponding coset-codes of the parent code. Utility of a special type of lengthening is established in PAPR studies

Interference Cancelling Detectors In OFDMA/MIMO/Cooperative Communications

Sreedhar, Dheeraj 09 1900 (has links)
In this thesis, we focus on interference cancelling (IC) detectors for advanced communication systems. The contents of this thesis is divided into the following four parts: 1. Multiuser interference (MUI) cancellation in uplink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). 2. Inter-carrier interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI) cancellation in space-frequency block coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM). 3. Single-symbol decodability (SSD) of distributed space-time block codes (DSTBC) in partially-coherent cooperative networks with amplify-and-forward protocol at the relays 4. Interference cancellation in cooperative SFBC-OFDM networks with amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) protocols at the relays. In uplink OFDMA systems, MUI occurs due to different carrier frequency offsets of different users at the receiver. In the first part of the thesis, we present a weighted multistage linear parallel interference cancellation approach to mitigate the effect of this MUI in uplink OFDMA. We also present a minimum mean square error (MMSE) based approach to MUI cancellation in uplink OFDMA. We present a recursion to approach the MMSE solution and show structure-wise and performance-wise comparison with other detectors in the literature. Use of SFBC-OFDM signals is advantageous in high-mobility broadband wireless access, where the channel is highly time- as well as frequency-selective because of which the receiver experiences both ISI as well as ICI. In the second part of the thesis, we are concerned with the detection of SFBC-OFDM signals on time- and frequency-selective MIMO channels. Specifically, we propose and evaluate the performance of an interference cancelling receiver for SFBC-OFDM, which alleviates the effects of ISI and ICI in highly time- and frequency-selective channels The benefits of MIMO techniques can be made possible to user nodes having a single transmit antenna through cooperation among different nodes. In the third part of the thesis, we derive a new set of conditions for a distributed DSTBC to be SSD for a partially-coherent relay channel (PCRC), where the relays have only the phase information of the source-to-relay channels. We also establish several properties of SSD codes for PCRC. In the last part of the thesis, we consider cooperative SFBC-OFDM networks with AF and DF protocols at the relays. In cooperative SFBC-OFDM networks that employ DF protocol, i) ISI occurs at the destination due to violation of the `quasi-static' assumption because of the frequency selectivity of the relay-to-destination channels, and ii) ICI occurs due to imperfect carrier synchronization between the relay nodes and the destination, both of which result in error-floors in the bit error performance at the destination. We propose an interference cancellation algorithm for this system at the destination node, and show that the proposed algorithm effectively mitigates the ISI and ICI effects.

Müller, Hannes 12 September 1999 (has links) (PDF)
A new combination of techniques for the numerical computation of incompressible flow is presented. The temporal discretization bases on the discontinuous Galerkin-formulation. Both constant (DG(0)) and linear approximation (DG(1)) in time is discussed. In case of DG(1) an iterative method reduces the problem to a sequence of problems each with the dimension of the DG(0) approach. For the semi-discrete problems a Galerkin/least-squares method is applied. Furthermore a non-overlapping domain decomposition method can be used for a parallelized computation. The main advantage of this approach is the low amount of information which must be exchanged between the subdomains. Due to the slight bandwidth a workstation-cluster is a suitable platform. Otherwise this method is efficient only for a small number of subdomains. The interface condition is of the Robin/Robin-type and for the Navier-Stokes equation a formulation introducing a further pressure interface condition is used. Additionally a suggestion for the implementation of the standard k-epsilon turbulence model with special wall function is done in this context. All the features mentioned above are implemented in a code called ParallelNS. Using this code the verification of this approach was done on a large number of examples ranging from simple advection-diffusion problems to turbulent convection in a closed cavity.

Αποδοτικές τεχνικές αντιστοίχισης και ψηφιακής υδατογράφησης εικόνων / Efficient image registration and image watermarking techniques

Καρύμπαλη, Ειρήνη 25 June 2007 (has links)
Image registration aims at finding geometrical or other differences between two or more images. Image watermarking offers copyright protection by embedding in the images an invisible signal, a watermark, in such a way that it is difficult to be removed. Image registration can be part of a watermark detector. Moreover, similar (or the same) similarity measures are used for both image registration and watermark detection. Thus, any improvement concerning the image registration or the similarity measures can have positive effects on image watermarking, too. Our research concerning the image registration problem deals with the spatial cross-correlation, which has the following drawback: the region around its maximum value can be rather wide, affecting the registration accuracy. This problem can be solved, by properly pre-whitening the images with the prediction error filter. Furthermore, an iterative algorithm is proposed for registering images with translation and rotation differences, which is then applied in sequences of medical images for cancer diagnosis. A second disadvantage of the spatial correlation is its computational cost. A fast computation scheme is proposed, based on a proper partitioning of the images and the Fourier transform. Also, the most computationally intensive part of a registration process is the evaluation of the involved measure for different relative image positions. Thus, an efficient iterative algorithm is developed that considerably reduces the number of searches required for finding the correlation coefficient maximum value and provides pixel accuracy. Finally, an image registration technique with subpixel accuracy is proposed, which is based on the correlation coefficient maximization. This technique does not require the reconstruction of the intensity values and provides a closed form solution to the subpixel translation estimation problem. As far as the problem of image watermarking is concerned, our research aims at embedding robust watermarks in spatial domain and improving their detection. First, a spatial perceptual mask is proposed, based on the local variance of the initial image prediction error. A blind detector is also developed, which performs better than the existing ones. This is theoretically proved for the general attack case with linear filter and noise. Furthermore, a new spatial perceptual mask is proposed that allows for a significantly increased strength of the watermark, while at the same time the image quality remains very good. Its performance is compared to known and widely used masks and is proved to be much better. Moreover, an improved detector is developed, which, combined with the new mask, performs very well. Finally, a new multiplicative watermark embedding is proposed, which uses space-time block coding (specifically a 4x4 real orthogonal design). This scheme is proved to perform much better than the repetitive watermarking.

Jeanneret-Grosjean, Cédric 04 1900 (has links)
The considerable volume of commercial boat trips associated with whale-watching activities (WWAs) in the Saguenay-Saint-Laurent National Marine Park (PMSSL) may have negative impacts on the health of the whales visiting the Saint-Lawrence River estuary. This situation has led park officials to seek an appropriate information management system in order to better monitor WWAs. This paper contributes to the design of such a tool by modeling excursion patterns of WWAs, resulting in a database. Based on the space-time path concept used for the study of activity-based travel behavior as well as the mobile-object geomatical concept, our data-model enables us to plot the trajectories of the excursions and the sequence of activities taking place during those excursions. The model is object-oriented and built into a Geodatabase (an ArcGis-processable relational database). The objects in the database are based on data collected by the Marine Mammal Research and Education Group (GREMM) during a three-year WWA monitoring program. Finally, this report demonstrates that geographic information systems can be effectively used to process the database in a way that serves the needs of park officials, and that the representation of excursion data in a GIS opens up new avenues for research on the space-time pattern of observation activities and the travel behavior of boats.

Vásquez Donoso, Consuelo 08 1900 (has links)
Suivre cette trajectoire permet ainsi à l’organisation de s’étendre, de se rendre présente dans le temps et dans l’espace, sans pour autant perdre son identité : to be here and there at the same time, now and then at the same place. / To understand the organization’s mode of being is certainly one of the most important challenges faced by researchers who are interested in this field of study. The literature presents several images, metaphors and perspectives which, combined, draw up a hybrid portrait of this type of collective. In this dissertation, I propose to recognize and exploit this hybrid character by starting from a reflection on space. Inspired especially by the work of the geographer Doreen Massey (1999, 2005), the concept of space to which I subscribe is that of an open and dynamic space (which incorporates time), based on a material and heterogeneous relationality, which supposes human and nonhuman actors in interaction. Space can thus be understood as the coexistence of heterogeneous ontologies, what Massey (2005) calls a “coexistence of trajectories as stories-so-far”. It is then a performative vision of organizational space which is constructed through the relation of distinct trajectories that coexist, meet, affect each other, enter in conflict or cooperate (Massey, 1999). I argue that to guarantee a certain form of continuity and coherence in the coexistence of heterogeneous trajectories, a work of alignment and ordering is put at work, and this, by the following-up of a main trajectory — what I call a scripted trajectory. By following this trajectory the organization can then extend itself, making itself present in time and space, without loosing its identity: it can be “here and there at the same time, now and then at the same place.” Starting from this definition of space, I propose to “space the organization,” and more specifically to “space” Explora, a non formal educational program of the Chilean government, which aims to diffuse and promote science and technology. Spacing an organization implies a double proposal: it refers to the spacing practices — hybrid, collective and situated practices — enacted by organizational agents (in this case, Explora’s agents implicated in the organization of a project, that of the Science week 2006), but also to a research practice. “Spacing the organization” consists of deploying these full spaces, unfolding the organization, and increasing the series of simultaneities-successions in order to create more space-time.
