SPLENDOR IN THE BLUEGRASS: THE POLICING OF DRUG RELATED CRIME IN LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

Smith, Christine Elizabeth 01 January 2010 (has links)
This project is designed as a case study investigating the relationship and practices between residents and police officers in the William Wells Brown neighborhood of Lexington, Kentucky toward the issue of drug-related crime. Employing Michel Foucault‘s work on governmentality and his concept of Splendor, I explore how governance is practiced within the daily negotiations of the WWB neighborhood. I approach this project through the lens of policing because some residents, especially those who comprise the William Wells Brown Neighborhood Association, form a limited partnership with the police department in combating the threat of drug crime in the neighborhood. Drug-related crime is defined as the purchasing, selling or using of illegal drugs. In my research, the illegal drug most commonly referred to is crack cocaine. Through my analysis, I explore the importance of visual appearances and spatial regulation in the policing of individuals.

Several factors may limit the productivity of bean such as disease, however proper management coupled with the use of agricultural inputs can provide increased productivity. So the objective was to assess the present work rates and timing of application of plant growth promoter Booster® three bean cultivars and fungicides and their application timing on the effect of pyraclostrobin to cultivate pearl beans. The experiments were conducted in a factorial arrangement with three factors, for which nitrate reductase activity, chlorophyll index, height of insertion of first pod and plant disease severity, number of pods per plant and seeds per pod were evaluated, thousand grain weight and yield. Pearl cultivar showed higher productivity than cultivar splendor. The dose of 0.15 L ha-1 reduced the index Chlorophyll Falker and plant height cherry cultivar. The plant growth promoter used in V4 resulted in increased activity of the enzyme nitrate reductase, but without increases in productivity. Regarding the effect of the application of pyraclostrobin Comet® before topdressing increased the activity of nitrate reductase, plant height, number of seeds per pod and grain yield of pearl beans.

Hledání pravdy jako základní mravní nárok / Quest for truth as a fundamental moral claim

Jakoubek, Jiří January 2013 (has links)
Is it possible to describe questing for truth as a fundamental moral claim? If so, in what meaning than? The goal of the submitted work is to find the answer to these questions. As the starting point of reflections serves a characteristic of a man as a person in spirit of dialogical personalism. This correspond with personal project conception of moral truth. That is put in connection with the life story of Jesus of Nazareth as a true man. With the assistence of the terms "conscience" and "liberty" is the final conception of moral truth set in a wider purview of ethical reflections and consequently confrontated with teaching of encyclical "Veritas splendor".

Le mythe des Argonautes dans le théâtre du Siècle d'or espagnol / The myth of the Argonauts in Spanish Golden Age theater

Gallego, Josée 17 March 2018 (has links)
The story of Jason is a most ancient myth and survives in various forms. A more widespread interpretation relates the myth of the fleece to a method of washing gold from streams. More often, the Golden Fleece represents royal power, the spring-hero or a book on alchemy. According to Apollonius of Rhodes, a flying golden ram rescued Phrixus and Helle as their stepmother wantedto kill them. Phrixus safely reached Colchis where he sacrificed the ram and gave its skin to Aetes. Meanwhile, Pelias had usurped the throne of Eson and as his son reclaimed it, sent him to fetch the Golden Fleece. Jason assembled a remarkable group of heroes on board the Argo. At Colchis, the witch Medea helped Jason to complete the mortal tasks. Upon returning, she plotted the death of Jason's uncle, so both took refuge with their children in Corinth. There, the hero betrayed her as he fell in love with Creusa. The witch got rid of this rival, burnt the palace and slaughtered their chidren. In 1430, the Duke of Burgundy founded the Order of the Golden Fleece. As a shield, a sheepskin was suspended from a jeweled collar of firesteel linked by flints. But the choice of Jason caused controversy, so Bishop of Chalon linked it to the fleece of Gideon. As part of the Burgundian inheritance, the Order was a welcomed instrument to the ambitious Habsburgs to strengthen the bonds and Charles V added as a motto « Plus Oultre ».Performances of the Spanish Golden Age Theater were used to develop the ideology of the Catholic Monarchy. When Lope de Vega published el “Arte nuevo”, he introduced the tradition of the « Mirror for Prince » giving opportunity to express one's point of view, despite the censure.

Universalisme moral. Deux perpectives : Jean-Paul II et Jürgen Habermas

Geoffroy, Carl 07 May 2021 (has links)

Nguyen, Quang Vinh 17 December 2021 (has links)
