Cravação de tubulões a céu aberto para melhoria da capacidade de carga em solos colapsíveis / Driving of belled piles to improve bearing capacity on collapsible soils

Márcio Benvenutti 08 November 2001 (has links)
The belled piles are largely used as fundation for structural elements of residential buildings in small and medium cities in Brazil. The steps of a foundation design is developed in an area previously occupied by old residential buildings. After a careful demolition and clean up process, the challenger is to build the foundations without the danger of harming the adjacent buildings (Division of belled piles on both side and on the bottom). On the design, some specific and some standard procedures are used, which reflect the current practice over the last 10 years, in the Campinas region, with extremely satisfactory results . In porous and collapsible soil, that can be found in many Brazilian regions, these piles usually have presented an inadequate behavior, when the soil is soaked. With a significant elevation on its moisture content, these soils present the collapse settlement, being characterized as collapsible. Since there is already the confirmation of the compacting process efficacy in making the employment of shallow foundations on collapsible soils feasible (CINTRA, 1998), it was decided to study the possible benefits of driving the belled piles on the improvement of the bearing capacity. At the Experimental Foundation Field of USP/São Carlos, two piles were tested. Both piles were 6,00 m long and had a shaft diameter of 0.50 m. The enlarged bases had a diameter of 1.50 m and a height of 0.90 m. The first pile was tested under the non-soaked condition of the soil, on the initial quota of base support, and then with the 0.15 m, 0.30 m and 0.45 driving, which corresponds to 10%, 20%, and 30% of the base diameter, respectively. It was observed that the driving improved the bearing capacity in 42%, 85%, and 127%, respectively. The second pile was tested on a soaked soil, to quantity the collapsibility effect on the reduction of the bearing capacity. A reduction of 51% to 53% on the values of the bearing capacity previously obtained was observed, but the collapse load, also presented an important improvement, increasing 45%, 90%, and 135% with the driving of 10%, 20%, and 30% of the base diameter, respectively. We can conclude that the driving of belled piles, inittially executed with digging and concreting in situ, may be an interesting solution on collapsible soils.

[en] SATURATED REACTOR TYPE STATIC COMPENSATOR MODELLING AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN A DIGITAL TRANSIENT STABILITY PROGRAM / [pt] MODELAGEM DE COMPENSADORES ESTÁTICOS TIPO REATOR SATURADO E SUA IMPLEMENTAÇÃO NUM PROGRAMA DE ESTABILIDADE TRANSITÓRIA

JOSE EDUARDO ONODA PESSANHA 16 January 2007 (has links)
[en] The model comprises fixed capacitor banks, for the generation of reactive power, in parallel with the saturated reactor, for the absortion of reactive power. The model equations are obtained in first place and from them the block diagram is developed for implementation in the program. Tests are carried out (digital simulations) using power systems under disturbance conditions. The results are then compared with others from the literature to access the validity of the model. With the conclusion of this work the TRANSTAB program stay with two types of static compensators: Saturated Reactor Type and Thyristor Controled Reactor.

[en] THYRISTOR-CONTROLLED REACTOR-TYPE STATIC COMPENSATOR IMPLEMENTATION IN A TRANSIENT STABILITY PROGRAM / [pt] IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DE COMPENSADORES ESTÁTICOS CONTROLADOS A TIRISTORES EM UM PROGRAMA DE ESTABILIDADE TRANSITÓRIA

PAULO EDMUNDO DA FONSECA FREIRE 27 February 2007 (has links)
[en] A transient stability program is a very important tool for power system planning and operation. Static compensators are designed to provide voltage control on normal operation and to improve the transient and dinamic stability. They are modern equipments with a great field of application on the brazilian transmission system. This work envolves the transient stability program (TRANSTAB) implementation in PUC´s computer (CYBER 170- 835) and the inclusion of a static compensator (Thyristor Controlled Reactor Type) model and a new output printout routine in this program. The TRANSTAB program makes use of the most recent simulation techniques and it is very well documented in this work. Suggestions are made on the inclusion of new equipment models, in order to extend the program modelling capability. A quick review is made on the static compensator types, applications, and functioning basics. Its control system is the object of a more detailed study, mainly on the aspects related to the modelling and representation on stability studies.

Condition assessment of polyethylene pipeline systems

Jaafar, Haydar January 1997 (has links)
This study is an industrial project commissioned by British Gas plc. (UK) to investigate the state of in-service naturally aged polyethylene (PE) buried pipes and to define procedures or techniques available to facilitate the condition assessment programme of PE pipelines systems. The primary goal of this study was to establish a better understanding of the ageing process in commercial piping materials and to understand its effect on long term integrity of PE pipeline systems. Eltex, Rigidex and Aldyl A are trade names of the PE gas grade resins used in this study and they represent the range of pipe materials used in the transport of potable water and gas in the UK. Sections of pipes used in this project were supplied by British Gas plc. in the form of unaged pipes and pipes which were aged in-service. Laboratory based accelerated ageing of the pipe resin samples was also carried out. The ageing regimes considered were water ageing at 23°C, air-oven ageing at 80°C, water ageing at 80 C, vacuum ageing at 80°C and in-service aged samples. Compression moulded plaques were produced as reference material. By utilising specific instrumentation and designs, several reliable procedures were developed to produce specimens directly from pipes. The feasibility of using micro-samples instead of large samples was demonstrated. A methodology was developed to retrieve disk samples using electrofusion "tapping-tee" saddles. Appropriate test specimens were designed for chemical and physical evaluations. This sampling method negates the need for excavating large sections of pipe material for the purpose of condition assessment. Reliable micro and macro-sampling test methods were developed and established as techniques for the condition assessment programme. Characterisation techniques included: (i) differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to measure (from the same specimen) both the degree of crystallinity and the oxidation induction time (OIT), (ii) HPLC analysis was used to quantify additives concentrations, (iii) Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to monitor the carbonyl index and to identify a pipe resin type from site, (iv) micro- and macro-tensile and fatigue tests to assess the changes in the mechanical properties as function of ageing. The fatigue test procedure was developed to produce brittle fracture at laboratory scale within a shorter period of time as compared to existing procedures such as the hydrostatic test. A reference data-base was created using the above identified tools and the criteria and methodology for carrying out site condition assessment inspection was compiled. The fundamental mechanisms of chemical and physical ageing were studied along with the possibility of their effect on the mechanical properties of PE pipes.

Quality assessment of a large real world industry project

Glazunov, Vladimir January 2013 (has links)
Quality Monitor is application, which automatically analyzes software projects forquality and makes quality assessment reports. This thesis project aims to instantiate Quality Monitor for a large real-world .Net project and to extend Quality Monitor by considering other data sources than just source code. This extended analysis scope includes bug reports, features, and time reports besides .Net assemblies (code) as artifacts. Different tools were investigated for the analysis of code, bug reports, features and time reports. The analysis of .Net assemblies was implemented as none of the existing tools under evaluation met all requirements. The analysis of .Net assemblies was successfully completed; it allows the extraction data necessary for creating Call and Control Flow graphs. These graphs are used for calculating additional metrics allowing for an improved assessment of quality of the project. Implementation of .Net assembly reader was tested using large real world industrial project. Other data sources were analyzed theoretically, but excluded for further implementation. Altogether the thesis includes an analysis of possible Quality Monitor extensions including their requirements, design, and (partially) their implementation and evaluation.

Validation of Machine Learning and Visualization based Static Code Analysis Technique / Validering av Machine Learning and Visualization bygger statisk kod analysteknik

Mahmood, Waqas, Akhtar, Muhammad Faheem January 2009 (has links)
Software security has always been an afterthought in software development which results into insecure software. Companies rely on penetration testing for detecting security vulnerabilities in their software. However, incorporating security at early stage of development reduces cost and overhead. Static code analysis can be applied at implementation phase of software development life cycle. Applying machine learning and visualization for static code analysis is a novel idea. Technique can learn patterns by normalized compression distance NCD and classify source code into correct or faulty usage on the basis of training instances. Visualization also helps to classify code fragments according to their associated colors. A prototype was developed to implement this technique called Code Distance Visualizer CDV. In order test the efficiency of this technique empirical validation is required. In this research we conduct series of experiments to test its efficiency. We use real life open source software as our test subjects. We also collected bugs from their corresponding bug reporting repositories as well as faulty and correct version of source code. We train CDV by marking correct and faulty version of code fragments. On the basis of these trainings CDV classifies other code fragments as correct or faulty. We measured its fault detection ratio, false negative and false positive ratio. The outcome shows that this technique is efficient in defect detection and has low number of false alarms.

DefectoFix : An interactive defect fix logging tool.

Hameed, Muhammad Muzaffar, Haq, Muhammad Zeeshan ul January 2008 (has links)
Despite the large efforts made during the development phase to produce fault free system, most of the software implementations still require the testing of entire system. The main problem in the software testing is the automation that could verify the system without manual intervention. Recent work in software testing is related to the automated fault injection by using fault models from repository. This requires a lot of efforts, which adds to the complexity of the system. To solve this issue, this thesis suggests DefectoFix framework. DefectoFix is an interactive defect fix logging tools that contains five components namely Version Control Sysem (VCS), source code files, differencing algorithm, Defect Fix Model (DFM) creation and additional information (project name, class name, file name, revision number, diff model). The proposed differencing algorithm extracts detailed information by detecting differences in source code files. This algorithm performs comparison at sub-tree levels of source code files. The extracted differences with additional information are stored as DFM in repository. DFM(s) can later be used for the automated fault injection process. The validation of DefectoFix framework is performed by a tool developed using Ruby programming language. Our case study confirms that the proposed framework generates a correct DFM and is useful in automated fault injection and software validation activities.

Influence du vieillissement statique sur la transition ductile-fragile des aciers au C-Mn / Influence of the static strain ageing on the ductile-to-brittle transition in C-Mn steel

Marais, Anthony 26 November 2012 (has links)
Ferritic steels for industrial structures have a brittle-ductile transition toughness and impact energy with temperature. Their resistance to the brittle fracture plays an essential role in the safety certification of industrial structures. Nowadays, the performance and the durability are key issues for major players such as EDF. In these approaches ductile-to-brittle transition toughness and impact energy, toughness is predicted from resilience. Several previous studies have shown that the probability of cleavage fracture can be adequately described in brittle plateau by a local approach to fracture. However, these studies assume that the material does not undergo strain aging, which is rarely relevant for low carbon steels and low calmed down. The work consisted firstly to characterize the behavior and secondly to propose a robust and explicit modeling of the observed phenomena. Characterization consisted of performing tensile tests between -150degreC~and 20degreC for several strain rates. A model able to simulate the static aging is identified by implementing an appropriate and systematic strategy. Impact resistance test allows us to build the curve of ductile-to-brittle transition of the material for different conditions to understand and observe the influence of static strain aging on the failure. Finally, the modeling of the brittle fracture has been described for all experimental conditions tested using the model developed and identified in the previous section to predict the transition for different material conditions.
