Computer-Assisted Instruction in an Urban School Setting: Fifth-Grade Teachers’ Perceptions and Students' Attitudes Toward ScienceHowell, Leanne 2010 December 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation study was to investigate a specific computer-assisted instructional software, Study Hall 101, in fifth-grade science. The study was conducted on an urban, elementary school campus in a northeastern school district in Texas. A mixed-methods approach was utilized in an attempt to understand two teachers’ perceptions about its use in fifth-grade science and evaluate its impact on fifth-grade students’ attitudes toward science.
The first inquiry employed a qualitative research design in an attempt to understand teachers’ perceptions towards the use of Study Hall 101. Data collection methods used in this study included interviews, focus groups, and electronic-mail (e-mail) responses to open-ended sentence stems. Four favorable themes emerged from teachers’ responses: (1) students' attitudes toward science, (2) students’ participation in science class discussions, (3) content individualization, and (4) students’ engagement. Teachers’ frustrations also emerged into themes: (1) time constraints, (2) technology glitches, and (3) specific design elements.
The second inquiry employed a quantitative research design in an attempt to investigate the impact of Study Hall 101 on seventy fifth-grade students’ attitudes toward science after an eight-week period. The Modified Attitudes Toward Science Inventory (mATSI) was used for data collection and was administered to students on two occasions, before and after treatment. Results indicated no statistically significant change in fifth-grade students’ overall attitudes toward science as a result of its use; however, two statistically significant findings did occur when data were analyzed across attribute variables of gender, ethnicity, and economic status, as well as specific domains within the mATSI. First, the use of Study Hall 101 was associated with males’ and females’ attitudes in opposite ways in regard to one domain of the mATSI: self-concept toward science. Second, students in the control group experienced a decline in another attitude domain of the mATSI: desire to do science.
The results of this study contribute to the field of K-12 education as we search for effective educational tools to reach diverse student populations. This study concludes that teachers’ perceptions of this software are favorable and that its use in fifth-grade science should be considered as a tool to engage students in their own learning process.

Vad gör du istället för att läsa? : En fallstudie om elevers attityd till skönlitteratur / What are you doing instead of reading? : A study about pupils attitude towards reading fictionSandin, Emma January 2015 (has links)
In this study, I have looked at pupils attitudes to reading based on an assumption from me that children seem to have a negative attitude to reading and that they don’t read much. My assumptions are based on my experience and research on reading, mainly reports from the National Agency (Skolverket, 2009) & (Skolverket, 2007). The purpose of the study is to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of why they don’t read. My study is based on a survey in which students in third grade participated, and then based on the survey, two students were selected to participate in an interview. The results showed that students actually do read and they don’t really have anything against it, but they'd rather choose something else to do. These students chose to play computer, watch movies, or sit with the iPad instead of reading. The reason was simply that it was more enjoyable and less tiring than it is to read. One of the students said that the only way he saw for him to read more, was that the options he would rather chose simply disappeared.

Kaimo ir miesto vyresniojo mokyklinio amžiaus mokinių požiūrio į socialinį elgesį tyrimas / Attitude to social behaviour of senior school-age pupils in rural and urban schoolsNavickaitė, Ingrida 13 June 2014 (has links)
The main object of the study is to analyze the positions of urban and rural older school-age girls and boys in terms of their social behavior. To achieve this, there have been two hypotheses, one of which is rejected. According to the received questionnaire results, in urban schools children are more likely to misdemeanor than rural teens while Kaunas teenagers tolerate inappropriate behavior more than their peers in province. Comparison of the aggregated results with the correlation between the analyzed segments shows that the hypothesis is confirmed again and coincides with the questionnaire data that urban children are more likely to misdemeanor than rural; and the hypothesis that both urban and rural boys are more prone to misconduct than girls is not proved.

10–12 klasių mokinių požiūris į verslumą ir jo ugdymą / Students` attitude of 10-12 classes towards enterprising and its upbringingVeličkienė, Lina 07 August 2013 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Booming world economy and new technologies change people`s interplay social relationship. Nowadays the need of society for economic and business knowledge is rather great. There we have a purpose in educational system to satisfy this need effectively in order to have business society in the future. Minciene points out “if one starts business the latter needs special personal and professional skills: imagination, creativity, risky activity, iniative novelty, intuition, management skills and other extreme and unique skills”.
Novelty of work. The analyses of scientific literature revealed that a great number of scientists deepen to possibilities of education of student`s business, methods but the attitude itself to business and its education is little investigated.
