This thesis is about an attitude of social workers towards supervision in a certain social service organization. Theoretical concepts outline the problems of social professions, supervision of social workers and attitudes as factors for various ways of accepting supervision. As results of conceptualization of theory some questions appeared. Those were separated into the three research parts while respecting three stages of attitudes. Parts are cognitive, emotional and behavioral. The research question was "What is social workers attitude towards supervision in a certain social service organization?" An answer to this question was searched through quality research strategy.

The thesis focuses on mapping and analysis of the current functioning of supervision in social services in the region of Liberec. The research aspires to find answers to the question of the scope of supervision in the social services in the given region and what type of supervision prevails in these facilities. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on collection and classification of generally available documents on supervision in the Czech Republic. It deals with the definition of the term supervision and the historical context of its creation in the field of social services. This part of the thesis describes the basic functions of supervision, structure of the supervisory process and its types. It draws the basic conditions of a successful introduction of supervision in organisations and in this context deals with the current issue of supervisions as a part of the quality standards of social services. The aim of the theoretical part is to create theoretical starting points for the practical research and determination of hypotheses. The practical part aspires to map the current situation in the supervisory activities in the field of social services. The research was carried on in the region of Liberec in social services facilities. The practical part included a preliminary research performed in the form of a controlled interview with five supervisors. The research itself had a form of a questionnaire. The aim was to find out whether supervision works in the facilities, what is the most frequent topic of the current supervision, how the workers conceive supervision and what type of supervision prevails in the organisations. Secondarily, the research focused on the analysis of the used from of supervision, frequency of supervisory meetings and review of the supervision by the workers. A partial goal of the research was to find out how the head workers cope with the introduction of supervision at their workplaces and how they motivate their employees to participate in the supervision. The research in the region of Liberec unquestionably showed that supervision has been slowly bringing itself to the attention of the workers in the field of social services. Though institutions with supervision introduced at the workplaces prevail in this field, there are still many organisations in which supervision has not been carried on due to various reasons. It has turned out that in facilities with a functioning supervision, it is usually conceived as one of the possible ways how to support the workers in the assisting professions and its presence in the organisation has been considered beneficial. The research maps opinions and attitudes of respondents to a ``good{\crqq} supervisor and ethical principles in supervision accompanied by practical instructions and recommendations.

Text in Afrikaans / OPSOMMING `n Verkennende en beskrywende studie is onderneem om wetenskaplike gefundeerde riglyne ten opsigte van die benutting van onderrigtegnieke vir praktykopleiers beskikbaar te stel vir maatskaplikewerksupervisie aan voorgraadse studente. Om supervisie effektief te kan aanwend, moet praktykopleiers van onderrigtegnieke kennis dra en dit kan aanwend. Die literatuurstudie fokus op die onderrigfunksie van supervisie en `n klassifikasie en beskrywing van onderrigtegnieke wat binne die supervisieproses aangewend kan word. Al twee-en-twintig supervisors/praktykopleiers wat betrokke is by gesinsorgorganisa- sies in die Metropool- en Bolandstreek, Wes-Kaap is betrek. `n Gestruktureerde vraelys is as data-insamelingsmetode benut. Die bevindinge en resultate toon aan dat voortgesette opleiding deur middel van informele opleidingstrategieë van praktykopleiers noodsaaklik is, om hul kennis ten opsigte van die onderrigfunksie van supervisie uit te brei asook die benutting van onderrigtegnieke aan te moedig. Verdere navorsing kan fokus op die benutting van onderrigtegnieke uit die Gestalt- of ander benaderings tydens supervisie. SUMMARY An exploratory and descriptive study was undertaken to provide scientifically based guidelines regarding educational techniques used by practical trainers when providing social work supervision to undergraduate students. To apply supervision effectively, practical trainers must have knowledge of educational techniques and be able to apply these. The literature study focuses on the educational function of supervision and provides a classification and description of educational techniques that can be applied within the supervision process. The sample included twenty-two supervisors/practical trainers at family welfare organisations in the Metropolitan and Boland regions, Western Cape. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data. The findings and results show that continuing education through informal training strategies by practical trainers is essential to expand their knowledge of the educational function of supervision and to encourage the use of educational techniques. Further research should focus on educational techniques from the Gestalt approach or other approaches. / Social work / M.Diac.
