Står journalistikens trovärdighet på spel? : en kvalitativ publikstudie om native advertising i svenska nyhetsmedier

Kruse, Andreas, Klefbom, Carl January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study native advertising and the public perception of newspaper credibility, and if this form of advertising have any ethical implications for the newspapers. Recent studies show that native advertising is perceived, from the public’s perspective, as a deceptive form of advertisement. Therefore this thesis also seeks to understand how the public copes with this deceptive form of advertisement. This thesis employs a qualitative research approach through focus group studies that include three different age groups, reaching from students aged 20-30 up to retirees aged 65 and up. Findings suggest that native advertising has a negative effect on the readers; the respondents explained that they found this form of advertising deceptive and also ethically problematic for the papers. Results also showed that the readers preferred advertisement where they felt in control of the outcome of the persuasion attempt. The study concludes that the public’s credibility judgment towards the newspapers weaken by native advertising.

Har svenska nyhetstidningars rapportering om SD förändrats mellan 2009 och 2017? / Has Swedish newspapers reports about SD changed between 2009 and 2017?

Östmar Landmark, Paula January 2018 (has links)
There has been an on-going discussion in the Swedish society about the media’s news reporting regarding the political party the Sweden democrats (Sverigedemokraterna.) Some claim that the party has been disfavored by systematically negative reports, others claim either that this is not the case or argue that the party is an extreme right wing party with racist tendencies, hence should not be treated like any other party. The report investigates news articles from four well known Swedish newspapers (Dagens Nyheter, Aftonbladet, Svenska Dagbladet and Ex- pressen) during two separate years - 2009 and 2017 (the years before an election year). In the period between these years the support for the Sweden Democrats increased fast, they entered the Swedish Parlia- ment and became one of the biggest partys. A content analysis has been used to answer the main question of the thesis: "Has the news reports by swedish newspapers regarding the Sweden Democrats changed be- tween 2009 and 2017?" The results show a possible slight increase of negative articles in 2017 as well as an increase of articles that presents the party as turbulent and violent, while the articles that presents the party as xenophobic or rasist decrease in comparison.

Perspectives of the reporting on carbon trading and carbon offsetting in Swedish newspapers: 2007 and 2014

Lundström, Samuel January 2015 (has links)
As response to climate change, the UN and the EU have adopted a market-based approach aiming to reduce Greenhouse gases via flexible market-based mechanisms, constituted by carbon trading and carbon offsetting. The approach rests on the notion that sustainable development and environmental protection are compatible with a liberal market and economic growth. However, this rather complex issue is debated among stakeholders and the perspectives of the matter vary. As an important societal institution, Swedish newspapers play a central democratic role by interpreting, conveying and discussing responses to climate change. By having this informative role, Swedish newspapers influence the public agenda. This study aims to analyze and describe how carbon trading and carbon offsetting are presented in Swedish newspapers by revealing patterns within their content. The research was conducted via a content analysis of 204 articles in the two leading newspapers in Sweden, Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter covering the years 2007 and 2014. The results could be summarized as: (i) the issue is described through a variety of contexts with strong influence of ideological messages, (ii) the elites in society in general and domestic political parties/allianes in particular are the most dominant stakeholder groups in the debate, (iii) the approach seems to be linked to the messages of Swedish liberal/conservative parties, (iv) the political orientation of the newspapers do not influence the choice of political parties given a voice in the articles, (v) the level of connection between cabon trading/carbon offsetting and sustainable development varies among the articles.

Makten av agendasättning och den kulturjournalistiskainramningen av woke -En kvalitativ innehållsanalys om förekomsten och inramningen av woke i svenskkulturjournalistik

Huzell, Linda, Lemoine, Majken January 2021 (has links)
This paper studies how the new phenomenon of being woke is framed in cultural journalistic articles inswedish newspaper media from January 2017 to May 2021 (present day). Although the subject ofwokeness is rarely explored in academic articles, this study provides a basic knowledge about how thephenomenon is talked about in the Swedish context. With a qualitative content analysis connected totheories of framing, agenda-setting and cultural journalism, it provides new knowledge in the field. Results show how the use of the word and, in that respect, the agenda setting of the word started in 2019and increased during 2020. Also, the results in 2021 could indicate further increase during the rest ofthe present year. Mostly, cultural articles mentioning woke held a neutral approach, although therelatively high number of negatively approached articles could also be connected to frames of woke asleft political spheres, censur, identity politics, radicality and as destroyers of good quality art. Positiveframing of woke often tends to use the term as “something you should be” and the neutral frames oftenmention woke with an acceptance by mentioning it in passing or with a describing frame.
