Félicien Rops v kontextu své tvorby a doby / Félicien Rops in the Context of His Work and TimePůtová, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
Félicien Rops in the context his works and time is a dissertation thesis dedicated to the life and work of one of the most important representatives of artistic decadence and symbolism of the 19th century. Félicien Rops (1833-1898) was a Belgian graphic artist, illustrator and painter, whose artwork significantly influenced how the sensual beauty of the female body, human sexuality and the darker sides of the human soul were interpreted. The dissertation thesis systematically describes and analytically interprets Rops's life and work in historical, social and cultural context. The first part of the dissertation thesis discusses the early phase of Rops's life, mentions his childhood, schooling and the beginnings of artwork from his time in Brussels until his arrival in Paris. Here I focus mainly on Rops's activities in art circles, his attempts at raising the status of Belgian art within the wider European movement and his activity related to founding satirical periodicals. This phase of Rops's life was defined by his political and social caricaturist work, and was heavily influenced by Flemish tradition and French modern art. I cannot omit Rops's landscape-painting and following the tradition of Flemish and Dutch painting. Special attention is paid to Rops's relation to travelling, sports and...

This article analyses symbols and symbolism as stylistic devices of communicating meaning and as a technique of characterisation and theme development in Nyuso za Mwanamke (The Faces of a Woman, 2010) written by Said Ahmed Mohamed. I analysed three types of symbols which are natural symbols, conventional symbols and literary symbols following Frye et al. (1985). This study aims at showing how symbols are used in literary works to communicate meaning and the ideology of the society depicted in the text. Symbols also help to build the theme, the plot and adding aesthetic value in literary texts.

Jan Opolský a jeho prozaické dílo v dobovém literárním kontextu / Jan Opolský and his prosaic work in temporary literary contextHorčíková, Lucie January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to define Jan Opolský′s prosaic works with emphasis put on his evident inspiration through fine arts. The work of Jan Opolský does not exceed limits of a short stories. It almost falls short of an action. The predominant feature would be reflexion and visual description. That is especially the case with voluminious parts devoted to the bright light and the color nuances - with their changing expresions and diverse shades reflected on the presented object of art. The whole momentum of his prosaic work tends to be included in exactly these parts of his ouvre. In his writing, Opolský uses his skills he earned as a craftsman and as an expert in various artistic fields. Because of his obsession with the world of art, he can be considered a good example of a decadent artist. A number of his texts, especially given these features it is focusing on, have symbolic legitimacy anyway.

Recepce a vliv severských literatur období fin de siécle v Českých zemích / The reception and influence of fin de siécle Scandinavian literature in CzechiaThál, Jonáš January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with reception of Scandinavian decadent literature in the Czech literary milieu on the background of European culture and philosophy in the late 19th century, the cultural homogeneity of European fin-de-siècle literature being stressed. The Scandinavian literature is in this thesis recognized to be an element of importance for the Czech periodicals (the main emphasis is placed on the periodical Moderní revue) as well as publishing houses. The thesis deals more thoroughly with Scandinavian men of letters such as Ola Hansson, August Strindberg, Georg Brandes, Herman Bang, Arne Garborg and considers their impact on the Czech literary ground. The personal contact amongst the European literary personas of the decadent epoch is of certain importance to the thesis.

Kontrast života a smrti v díle J. K. Šlejhara / The Contrast of life and death in works of J. K. ŠlejharKrčálová, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
The thesis focuses on J. K. Šlejhar's literary work from two points of view. The first part introduces Šlejhar's work in the contemporary literary context as a result of a synthesis of new literary styles. In the second part the thesis concentrates on a textual analysis and reconstruction of the author's "artistic world". The first part of the thesis gives insight into the contemporary discussions aimed at revising and redefining the function of art with respect to the new development in society and new human needs. The critical reception of realism and naturalism and the reflection of the then wide-spread adoption of new influences from foreign literatures are also dicussed. To draw a comparison, we quote both period and current studies dealing with J. K. Šlejhar's work. Thereby we want to demonstrate the changing requirements of literature and art and the changing perception of a literary work throughout time. The second part of the thesis comprises the textual analysis of Šlejhar's selected writings from the point of view of semiotic literary theory and the reconstruction of the author's "artistic world". Such approach enables us to draw comparisons to Russian literature of the 19th century, primarily with the works of N. V. Gogol and F. M. Dostoyevsky, and to discover a common basis for both...

Teologická mystika a symbolismus v díle "Méditations sur le Mystére de la Sainte Trinité" Oliviera Messiaena / Theological Mysticism and Symbolism in the Piece "Méditations sur le Mystere de la Sainte Trinité" by Olivier MessiaenSalvová, Pavla January 2013 (has links)
The general attribute of Olivier Messiaen´s music is not only his specific musical language, which experiments with time, rhythm, colour, finds inspiration in birdsong, Gregorian chant and music of the exotic lands, but mainly the existence of a non-musical message. The first part of my thesis is introductory. It includes the description of Messiaen´s life and early musical influences, the nature of his musical style, his general musical aims, and an overview of his most important works. In the centre of my effort is the thematic analysis of Messiaen´s late organ cycle Méditations sur le Mystère de la Sainte Trinité (Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity). That is preceded with an introduction of the background of the piece, sources of inspiration and symbolism used. The main aim is to explore the complexity of Messiaen´s musical and thematic thinking, and to understand the message of the musical material.
